We used these in some of my photography classes in place of expensive professional lights. They work really well. Not to mention, they're easier to hold and they're light so your arm doesn't get tired if you're the one holding it. The only down side is that they can get kind of hot (though this may be due to the bulb and not so much the light), so if you held it too close to the model they could really feel the heat.

This light is simple and does the job. Some things are better left rudimentary and that's what you get, here. The nice, tight clamp will hold onto just about anything you attach it to, particularly a joist or wooden rail of some sort. And you can angle the head however you want it. It has a sort of no-frills ball and socket joint to adjust the head in any direction. The aluminum is not as reflective as stainless steel, but you get a surprising blast of light with a standard wattage bulb or CFL. I use this to light up my light box/shadow box which I use for photographing Ebay listings and artwork. Light 'em up! I challenge you to find a cheaper utility light source any where else.

I just purchased this lamp two weeks ago, as well as, a grow light.
This product sure does the job!
My seedlings are growing like crazy!
I will be going back and getting a few more of these.
Lamp also gives off enough heat for the seedlings.

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Kathy Perfect Grow Light for Seeds
This is perfect for a grow light for seeds. I bought the big grow light bulb for $8, and this is much, much cheaper than what they sell in garden centers for growing seedlings indoors. SInce I don't need to move it much, it doesn't matter if it's a bit flimsy, which would matter if you are, say, working on a car. It's perfect for this application, and I am going to go back and get a couple more. The quality is good for the price.

I bought 6 of these. One I took home was damage but was able to quickly return and get another one the next time I visited Home Depot. Not a big deal. Definitely cheaply made but for the price, worth it. Clamps works properly. Used plastic cable ties to secure in place. Fit a 40 Watt CFL as a grow light and it worked perfectly. Did try a large (11-inch long with a medium base) 85 Watt (~300 watt incandescent equivalent) That CFL didn't work even though it worked in my ceiling fixtures. Don't know why since this lamp is rated for a 150 watt incandescent, But I will definitely give this a very positive review because of the price and value.

I bought this to hold a 100 W lamp to heat the engine of my diesel truck on cold nights (it doesn't have a block heater). It is satisfactory for this. The main problem is that the reflector threads in the thin aluminum reflector are loose on the lamp socket and it can't be properly secured. The reflector only stays with the socket because the bulb keeps if from falling off.

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by PThomas One light, many uses
I clamp this light to the hood of my car when working on the engine, I clamp it to the side of my grill when bbq'in at night, I clamp it to the side of my canopy tent shining it up to illuminate the whole thing at night... I could go on but it's a durable light that has a clamp to it. For under $10, you'll find hundreds of uses for it.

The light’s reflector was made of a material that seems more on the lines of an aluminum can. After two weeks of use two of the three reflectors were badly distorted. Not sure how this would stand up on a job site but the reflector did not hold up too well during a 7th graders science fair project. I also had a problem with the ball swivel that holds the light. Even after tightening the screw all three lamps would droop down after a short time. This was the first HDX product I purchased and would be very skeptical to buy an more considering the extremely poor quality of this product.
