If you lost the instructions, please play with a ratchet until you figure it out. I promise that basic spatial reasoning will come in handy later in life.
Mine did have one tab that was not bent properly, but it honestly took 20 seconds to bend with a screwdriver. The straps are thinner than I hoped, but I guess that's so you can draw in more strap without it bunching up (because people apparently don't think to pretension soft loads). These should be perfect for tying down furniture, but they are NOT suitable for lifting motorcycles overhead.

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by toad Awsome tie downs
So last year I purchased an 8 pack of these, it was around christmas and they were around $15.00 for all 8, I wish that I had bought at least 2 more sets. I have craftsman tie downs, I have harborfreight tie downs, and some other brands. The only way to find out what brand you like is to buy different ones or hope that the reviews that people write are actually decent reviews. After buying those HDX tie downs I wont buy any other brand unless HDX goes down in quality. I have gone out of my way to purchase more HDX tie downs. They are great quality, and the ratchets are very smooth, and they release really nice, some brands the release mechanism will go to the side and then bind up. Not these I would highly recoment purchasing these, they are a great product if using them as intended. The people writing reviews about these breaking are people that are not using them as intended. I have probably 60 or so Tie down now and I use them for everything, I have a few in every one of my vehicles and a bunch of them in my shop, I have 6 atv's and 2 dirt bikes so I need a lot. If you go with HDX you wont go wrong I promise. I hope this will help you on your decision.

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Markbct Great tie downs
Great tie downs if you haven't used a ratcheting type before I could understand the frustration by the other reviewers, that being said once you understand how to use them correctly you would see the ease of use and appreciate the quality. I used these for hanging my tree stands, the ratcheting system is very solid and seems well made with the rubber handles.

Once I figured out you thread through to the length you want then you start ratcheting, works great!! Hope this helps

Works as intended. The bonus is, that neither my credit card information, or my email address got stolen during this transaction!

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by JLuste Easy to use, inexpensive, great product
Let me first say I have never used a tie-down like this. I needed to buy a queen mattress and foundation and had to fasten to my vehicle's roof. Bought this due to its length and quantity and price.
Never using a fastener, i read the instructions and fiddled with them a bit before I had to actually use it. Instructions were clear enough and it made sense. worked fine in practice.
On top of the car, through the doors, I figured out the hooks can go together and I should manually pull the slack through as tight as I can before ratcheting. Just made sense. Ratcheting was super easy. No issues like other posts. The instructions say to not overtighten. I did for one. That mattress wasn't moving at all.
Loosening the non over-tightened one was simple; just pull back the black release bar and light the ratcheting handle as far backwards as you can. It is designed to release the other brake. Worked great. The over-tightened one took more effort, but again, all I really had to do was push the ratchet backwards harder.
Even the "packaging" works as a case and can be reused pretty handily.
A+ product. Also, I'm not an impatient person nor an idiot and I rarely have issues with operating products.

These are great ratchet tie-downs ... a super value for the money. I've only had them a week, and I've already used them to transport a queen mattress and box frame, as well as a kayak, on the roof of my Honda Pilot.
The instructions that come with the ratchets are horrible. If you've never used one before, go to YouTube and search for a how-to video on ratchet tie-downs. It will save you much time and aggravation. The process for using them is not intuitive.
