Is this good plastic to make a slip and slide out of?

Asked by: looking4fun
Will work very well but doesn't last too long. Good for a few weeks but not a whole summer.

Is the plastic clear or opaqe? Do you know if anyone has used it as an insulation barrier for a steeple roof?

Looking for an inexpensive solution to lower heating costs in the winter for a steeple roof. Thanks.

This paragraph written in a recent review describes the clarity, and a comparison to the sheeting that HD used to carry: "Get two clear 16 oz. (or .5 liter) drinking glasses. Fill the first glass with water, then add about 3 or 4 drops of milk and stir. Fill the second glass with milk; no water at all. Hold each glass up to a bright light. The first glass is the clarity of 6 mil clear plastic sold in the past. The glass containing only milk demonstrates the 'clear' sheeting they sell today."

We used 18 of these sheets to cover an 8-acre lot as we were hosting a charity event and anticipated a downpour the day prior. The tarps kept the water out - we created a path for the water to go, away from the main event space. Event was a dry success, 1400 people attended and no mud in sight after a torrential downpour! Home Depot saved the day!

People (including me) use it for greenhouses. I bought a roll and used it to re-cover my large greenhouse. It has reduced the light level inside the greenhouse by around 50%. When standing inside on a bright sunny day, you can barely see shadows. THIS PRODUCT IS WHITE, NOT CLEAR. 6 mil clear plastic sheeting is never perfectly clear. It typically has a milky-white appearance, but is still clear enough to allow 70 – 80% of sunlight to pass through. Just look at the photos provided with the product listing; they show what clear plastic should look like. There is a photo of plastic sheeting covering a stack of lumber, and another photo of it being used as a vapor barrier on an insulated wall. THESE MAY BE PHOTOS OF WHAT HOME DEPOT SOLD IN THE PAST, BUT THEY ARE NOT THE SHEETING THEY SELL TODAY. This plastic has virtually no clarity. If you were to use this on a wall as shown in the photo, you might not even be able to tell if there was insulation behind the plastic or not. Or, here’s another example you can try at home. Get two clear 16 oz. The glass containing only milk demonstrates the “clear” sheeting they sell today. Personally, I believe that this change may have happened in recent months or years (it has been several years since the last time I needed to buy this 6 mil sheeting), and Home Depot might not even be aware of the change. Their vendor might say “it has always been this way,” but even their own photos prove differently. It still seems to be quality plastic in terms of durability; I’d give it a five-star rating if it was being sold as WHITE plastic sheeting. But for me, this was a waste of $98, because I needed CLEAR, and now I’m stuck. It is installed. Taking it down and replacing it would cost me far more in time and manpower than the $98 I’d get as a refund. If necessary, I’ll just use grow lights during daytime hours this winter.

It did very well covering file and storage boxes. Holds easily with tape without tearing. The only downside is the way it is folded on the roll. You would expect if you cut up the middle of the roll you would get two 10' wide pieces but it is quad folded from the center out on the roll so you get two 8' wide pieces and two 2' wide pieces. If you want to half it you need to unfold it first.
