Customer Questions & Answers

This Fan has 5 blades and a shroud. What are the advantages of 5 over 3 blades and the shroud?

Asked by: DMac
I compared the 3-blade HDX fan without the shroud to this one side-by-side in my garage. The three blade fan without the shroud was noticeably quieter and it put out more airflow. There must be some additional turbulence in the airflow caused by the shroud and/or the blade design. I didn't use an anemometer to compare the two fans, but my wife said the same thing before I offered my own opinion. We bought three of those fans for less than the price of two of the shrouded fans.

is this fan rated for outdoor use

Asked by: 007vonbiermeister
While I don't recall in the manual it saying so I will be usingj it outdoors. Just use common sense and don't use it in the rain or spray water on it while it is running. It has heavy duty wiring.

How can I lock the tilt angle on the fan?

Once I assembled the fan and tightened the Tighten Knobs I could not get it to lock in any position. It only stays in the hassock fan mode. Should I have to use pliers or a wrench to tighten the knobs? It does not seem to tighten by hand.
Asked by: Coolforthesummer2014
Just by screwing the 2 knobs on the side of the fan which is easy to do.

SKU 856516 floor fan, there is a small fuse in the electrical plug in this fan, can i purchase them at a Home Depot store?

Asked by: Anonymous
I don't know, you will have to ask that at your local Home Depot store. If not most any electrical store should have one or you should be able to order one from the company who made it (just ask customer service to see if they can order one for you from the company, they should be able too). I get customer service at the Home Depot store here in Killeen to do stuff like that now and then and they gladly do it.

Customer Reviews

20 in. High Velocity Floor Fan with Shroud is rated 3.2 out of 5 by 29.
Rated 4 out of 5 by from Can take apart for easy cleaning I purchased this more expensive version of this fan because I could see it would be quick to remove the "shroud" (metal grates) for cleaning. I would have given it 5 stars but this fan at full speed sounds like a 747 airplane and thus is not perfect. I like to use it when I need to circulate a lot of air quickly like when I come home and have had the place at 80 degrees all day (summer) and need to cool it off in a hurry. But I would not use it if I was trying to have a conversation with someone in the same room with it or you couldn't hear them! I also use it in Spring and Fall when I open my windows to bring in the fresh air and circulate it quickly.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Too Loud This moved air well and cooled the house quickly but it was very loud, even on the lowest setting. Will have to return as a result. It also vibrated the entire floor when set on medium or higher.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from OK Fan is loud, blades not balanced so vibrates. Doesn't put out near as much air as my old three blade balanced Patton fan. More blades does not mean more air.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from This product only worked for a few days! When it worked it was great, but it it stopped working after 5 days!

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Terrible No matter how tight you get the knobs on the side the fan it rotates and points towards the ceiling. Going to be returning it in the morning.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Just OK I'm just OK on the fan. I needed something FAST (I was sweltering in the garage this past weekend) so I grabbed this one without doing much research ahead of time. It moves a fair amount of air, but not as much as I had hoped it would move. It's pretty badly overpriced for what it is: a dime-a-dozen motor, blades, and a shroud. The bolts that determine the floor angle are impossible to get tight, so it slowly rotates up towards the ceiling over a few hours of runtime. It's not awful, it does move some air... I guess I just expected higher build quality and more air movement for this price.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Powerful but loud Pros: Good quality construction. Looks well built. Moves a butt load of air for its size. Cons: NOISY even on low setting. Summary: Shop or garage use = yes / Home use = no
