I purchased this more expensive version of this fan because I could see it would be quick to remove the "shroud" (metal grates) for cleaning. I would have given it 5 stars but this fan at full speed sounds like a 747 airplane and thus is not perfect. I like to use it when I need to circulate a lot of air quickly like when I come home and have had the place at 80 degrees all day (summer) and need to cool it off in a hurry. But I would not use it if I was trying to have a conversation with someone in the same room with it or you couldn't hear them! I also use it in Spring and Fall when I open my windows to bring in the fresh air and circulate it quickly.

Fan is loud, blades not balanced so vibrates. Doesn't put out near as much air as my old three blade balanced Patton fan. More blades does not mean more air.

Many of these reviews note that this fan is noisy. I would not recommend dismissing these reviews.
I assumed most people just wanted a super quiet fan that also offered powerful air movement. My assumption was wrong. This fan is just plain LOUD. On the low setting it is still more powerful than my Lasko 20" Box fan, but also about twice as loud. On the Highest setting this fan can cool a room with ease, but at the sacrifice of your hearing.
This fan works great during the day to cool off the house and act as a transport to blow cold air from one side of the house to the other. However, this fan will have to stay far away from the bedroom as there is no possible way someone could sleep with this fan going at night.
The short of this fan is that Home Depot created a great "Shop fan" for your garage, barn, basement or normally unoccupied spaces in your house. Their failure is attempting to pass it off as an everyday fan that accompanies your life.

I'm just OK on the fan. I needed something FAST (I was sweltering in the garage this past weekend) so I grabbed this one without doing much research ahead of time.
It moves a fair amount of air, but not as much as I had hoped it would move. It's pretty badly overpriced for what it is: a dime-a-dozen motor, blades, and a shroud. The bolts that determine the floor angle are impossible to get tight, so it slowly rotates up towards the ceiling over a few hours of runtime.
It's not awful, it does move some air... I guess I just expected higher build quality and more air movement for this price.

I bought two of these fans for my business. And I use them only in the summer. I got one summer out of one fan and then the brushes went. I got a summer and a half out of the second fan before it quit as well. Cannot recommend these fans for more than one season.
