Questions & Answers

How thick of tile can this cut?

Asked by: BrandonH
manual cutter can only go with 5/16" I think, and you may still need multiple cut before break. It is not you can not use for thicker one, depends on how you break it.

Where can I get a replacement cutter bar for this saw?

Asked by: Carolyn
Hello Carolyn, Thank you for your recent inquiry with The Home Depot. Unfortunately we do not have a replacement cutter bar available on the Home Depot website but you can visit your local Home Depot store to inquire about a replacement cutter bar. We appreciate your business and look forward to serving you in the future. Thank you for shopping Home Depot.

What is the minimum width cut I can make with this tile cutter?

I need to trim 1-1/16 inch off of a porcelain tile. Will this tool be able to make a cut that small?
Asked by: Danny
Don't depend on this cutter for that samll of a cut. I got consistent 2" strips, but I only managed 1 sucessful 1" cut on a 1/4" thick porcelain tile. I used a ryobi 4.5 inch grinder with a wet diamond cutoff blade for thin strips of the these tiles. Good Luck.

20 in. Rip Ceramic Tile Cutter is rated 3.0 out of 5 by 46.
Rated 1 out of 5 by from Poorly executed I have used many different tile cutters in the past with no problems. Thinking they were all pretty much the same simple devices, I bought this one from Home Depot. I had several problems with this cutter. First of all, the guide rods that the cutting wheel slides on are too weak to allow much pressure to cut. This results in a very light score, and cuts that may not follow the score perfectly. The fence was also not exactly perpendicular to the cutting edge, making for slightly crooked cuts on the tile(off by about 1/16" on 12" tile). The worst thing about this cutter is how it snaps the tile. I cut about 10 tiles with this cutter before giving up. Atleast half of these tiles that I cut were snapped in 4 pieces instead of 2.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Flawless I read some of the negative reviews so I was apprehensive at first. I mentioned this to the associate in the flooring department at the Mastic, NY Home Depot. She opened one up, and produced some damaged tiles they had for me to try it on. She demonstrated its use, then let me try it. I made 3 perfect cuts and bought it. I used this to install a floor with 12 x 12 tiles in the bathroom, and I'm halfway done putting up a kitchen back splash with 6 x 6 tiles. I have yet to have this unit fail to make perfect cuts. Unless someone received a defective unit, I have to attribute the negative reviews to either operator error or a professional that had a long developed technique on larger commercial equipment failing to adapt to the recommended procedures for this unit. This is one of the best purchases I've made for a tool in a long time.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from If you use it correctly it works geat. if you take you time to score the tile and then apply a decent amount of pressure in the right spots the cutter will always cut and breaker the tile straight and clean. This tile cutter is made for small projects like a bathroom. Anything over 150 sq you used invest in wet tile cutter. This tool also only cuts straight lines so you will need a grinder with a cutting blade or a pair of tiles snipes to create your weird cuts.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Works fine using these tips I went to the tool rental at Home Depot with a scrap piece of my tile. The manual tile saw worked great so I decided to purchase one. There is certainly a difference with this product and the rental saw. The rental saw appears to be a pro/better quality. On my practice pieces I had a problem at the beginning and end of score line. So make sure to score a few times. Also I applied decent pressure when scoring. (the rental saw seemed to have a heavier handle) I'm using 13 x 20 tile. When cutting the short portion the weight of the tile hanging off made the cut difficult so I used the foam that was in box to cushion that gap. I also cut a small piece of the foam to use as padding under the part the contacts the tile when squeezing down on the handle. The guide is mounted/stored under the saw. Overall this worked fine for me.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Get a wet saw instead I cut several tiles with this and all but 1 broke perpendicular to the score. Before trying it out, I watched several How-To videos, all of which make it look easy and straightforward. It's not, or this thing just doesn't work very well. Maybe there's a trick to it. If so, the videos don't show it and there's nothing that comes with the tool that explains it. I ended up returning the snap cutter using a wet saw and a Dremel rotary tool. My tile looks great.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Good workhorse for small jobs Check the box for all the parts. I purchased this tile cutter when I began demolition of my bathroom thinking my project would go smoothly and quickly. Tiling didn't begin for about 6 months...the measuring guide and one of the twist down retainers was missing from the box. This tile cutter, cut smoothly and made sharp clean breaks as long as you are cutting at least a 2" wide strip. It was not easy to get a good score starting on the beveled corner edge of the 12" porcelain tiles I was planning to install as a diamond pattern. Starting on straight edges was much easier and I had only a few straight edge cuts that ended in a curved/conchoidal break. The working surface of this cutter is raised a good space above the table level, so without the guide, I had to improvise by placing a 2X4 under the free edge of the tile so that there was less tile slippage and finger pinching. An extra set of hands helped too. As you get farther into your project, you may find that the scoring head is not sliding freely. A squirt of wd40 on the chrome rails helped get it sliding freely and also a shot of lubricant on the cutting wheel helped a lot. It also takes some practice to keep the snapping foot from falling down and impeding scoring. When snapping tiles, make sure the foot is not more than a half inch from the edge of the tile you have just scored and apply a quick and gentle pressure. if it doesn't snap easily, make sure you are lined up with the blade and score again. One more gripe I have is that my Home Depot does not have the replacement scoring blades available in the store. Otherwise, I am pretty satisfied as a DIYer with this tool.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from works great!! The manual ceramic tile cutter worked like a dream I cut every tile the first try and each cut snapped perfect, I've used dozens of manual cutters and this one is the best Hands Down, also the price was great and i would highly recommend this cutter to anyone that needs to accomplish that home project and still have a usable tool to have for future projects.
