Can this product be used inside a house? We have some mortar on our stone fireplace mantel that we would like to clean up.

Asked by: George
I wouldn't unless you have a proper respirator, eye protection, gloves, etc... Also should have some forced air ventilation to push any fumes to an open window. This is a strong, highly corrosive chemical and the fumes inside a house could be a problem for people and other objects. I would look for another product to clean mortar inside a house unless you can do it safely as described above.

how many gallons do I need to clean a 20000 gal stained in ground pool with the water in it

Asked by: handymancan
It depends. I am cleaning my 21,000 gallon pool at the moment to remove a bunch of metal stains and am using 6 gallons. Unless you are draining it completely, how much you use depends on how bad the stains are and where. I recommend buying a cheap, submersible pump and getting water down to about half. Then you can clean the sides to see how it works and as you are doing it, will make the remaining water very acidic. Keep pool off of course to avoid corroding equipment. This is a do it yourself acid bath. Fill back up with water after done and add several 5 pound bags of baking soda until PH is decent before starting up. Then fine tune PH.

This product has a pull tab on it but rarely removes the plastic covering. Because the acid is so dangerous, cloves and goggles are recommended. I wish the manufacturer would fix the pull tab so it opens the first time you pull it without having to use something sharp to pop the plastic.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent Product I bought this to clean stubborn urine stains in a toilet. I used 3/4 of one bottle. I made sure the toilet had a normal amount of water in it. Carefully but quickly dumped in the HCL. Kept bathroom ventilated and used gloves. Waited about 12 minutes, came back and flushed. I then used minimal effort to remove all staining and the toilet looked brand new. Highly recommended as long as you follow safety precautions.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Like in The Old Days I was really surprised to see HD carrying this when I went to get chemicals to get my in ground pool ready for the season. It is the strength I remember from 30+ years ago, and it really works. This acid is 2.5 times more concentrated than what everyone else is selling, and I expect that the one box will last me the season. It does deserve respect, however. This acid will ruin your day if you get it on something important, like your body, so be careful and follow directions when adding it to water. (NEVER add water to concentrated acid!) That said, I've used it not just in the pool, but for cleaning humidifier pads, toilets, calciumed up glasses--it works.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from This product worked much better than I had anticipated I used this product to clean a concrete slab that was very dirty and stained. I tried to clean it with a strong pressure washer but the staining was severe. I poured the acid over 2 foot by 2 foot squares at a time and moved it around with a wire brush. the effect was amazing. When I hit the concrete with a hose it was perfectly clean. I wish I had known this before trying to clean with t pressure washer.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from way better than dry acid/pH- for your pool One gallon of this brought the pH of my 22,000 gallon pool from 8 to 6.5 in 24 hours. More cost-effective and easier on the equipment than the dry acid (pH-) also found at the store. Also a few coins cheaper than the L pool store here.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Weak, watered down acid Don't know if this was a bad "batch" or just a poor product but it was so weak it may as well have been water.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Other than pool usage This acid is useful for rust removal done outside with wind at your back. Mixed 50/50 with antifreeze to reduce chemical reaction and make it cling to rusty item like tools, saw blades, using a hand sprayer RL Flo-Master 4 pt. Hand Sprayer . ALWAYS pour acid into antifreeze or water keeping at arms length. When acid cleaning is finished empty and flush RL Flo-Master 4 pt. Hand Sprayer with water or it will become unusable. I always store the acid containers and left over acid mix in a plastic bucket like 5-Gal. Black Project Bucket (Pack of 3) with lid to avoid a leak. The acid can be diluted 50/50 with water to clean dirty copper pipe before soldering wipe off with wet rag. The same goes for rusty bolts and nuts removing rust to the bear metal then use 50/50 mix of ATF and acetone for a rust buster. Mix a strong solution of baking soda and liquid soap to neutralize the acid and use RL Flo-Master 4 pt. Hand Sprayer to stop the acid reaction or to protect adjacent surfaces . Treat the acid with respect and you'll find a multitude of uses. After rust is removed treat the clean surface with protective coating like Rust-oluem primers or Krud Kutter rust inhibitor or the rust will reappear quickly.
