Customer Questions & Answers

Can you purchase additional "feet" to fit into the bottom poles if you were to build them only half as tall and build two sets half as tall side by si

Asked by: Dory
You CAN add these together side by side, by THREE or by FIVE or BY Seven or by Nine. Standing in line at the HOME DEPOT, a lady told me she did it all along her children's playroom two & three high. EVERYTHING had its place that the children could reach. I have done it in a 5 x 15 storage unit that went from 8 feet high to 15 feet high ALL THE WAY up. You pop out the black end pieces, try not to break them. But if you do, that's okay, you only need the parts that the poles actually go into later. Then you place the piece that has no ends on top of the two straddled shelves, then pop in the poles, then pop continue as usual. TO MAKE large holes in shelves, like one that will be double empty shelf, use your black pieces to create a LONG pole to skip, then place the next shelf on top of that. I made room for my nightstand to be stored up about five shelves high. Made room for trash cans being stored to sit on the ground and the three shelves each side, then the shelf about the trash cans. It is almost like legos. I will add an image in a few weeks. getting ready to do in shed built on my property.

Can these shelf systems be hooked together to extend the length of the shelves (i. e. side-by-side)?

Asked by: hbcrandy
There's no built-in design feature that lets them hook together but many ideas have already been given. You could also drill a hole through shelf sides and use a long carriage bolt and nut.

36 in. W x 72 in. H x 18 in. D 5-Shelf Plastic Ventilated Storage Shelving Unit is rated 4.5 out of 5 by 1549.
Rated 2 out of 5 by from Economical yet poorly executed shelf system still better than nothing. At only $39.45, these sturdy and attractive shelves are a steal. I performed the assembly in about five minutes, and was very pleased with the roomy and sturdy shelves. They really help those of us on a budget to create valuable storage space and organize our belongings, garden tools or whatever. If the quality control was higher, these shelves would be perfect. But, unfortunately, it isn't. The first set we got was missing pieces. All three I bought were sturdy but poorly moulded and not trimmed of excess plastic. In every case, some parts needed to be trimmed with a box cutter just to let the parts fit together. And as I mentioned, in one case the packaged product was missing pieces. If the quality control was higher, this would be a Five Star winner all the way. As it is, the repeated trips to the Home Depot and time it took to cut away poorly moulded excess plastic wasted valuable time and caused considerable frustration. All in all I recommend these shelves, especially if you check for all 16 posts, four feet and four toppers. If complete, and you find a set with fewer flaws in the plastic, you have a hands down winner. If you are easily frustrated and don't have more time than you think to assemble them or fetch the missing part(s) from the Home Depot, maybe you should pass these up.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from poor quality control The manufacturing quality control on the plastic was poor. I had to cut the ragged plastic on most of the stiles with a matte knife in order for them to fit into the holes on the shelves. In some cases the shelving holes also needed to be trimmed. This was the case on all three shelving units I bought. (see pictures) Once trimmed, the item was easy to assemble. It is sturdy and holds a lot of stuff. I have bought this product many times before and about half the time there is this problem.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Good Investment Plenty sturdy. I recommend anchoring these shelves to the wall. 1 1/4 EMT (electrical conduit) two hole straps are perfect. Support was fantastic. Replaced a part FREE even after I admitted I damaged it by not following instructions. Replacement arrived in record time. SALUTE !

It was very easy to assemble, and the shelves are quite strong and durable to hold lots of heavy items. Light weight and easy to move around until you stock items on it. I bought three (3) of them to replace the wooden built-in shelves in my storage unit. Great for storing Christmas boxes.

I had to trim almost every hole with a utility knife to even put this together. Ordered online for in store pickup - the two they had pulled for me both had broken shelves. Two on the sales floor also had visible breaks. Got them home - each set had a broken shelf. The plastic is brittle, they are unstable, the poles don't fit securely. Went online to submit an order for new shelves - was told at the very end that I had to call to finish the order - but not open on the weekend. Returned them and got Plano ones at Wal-mart for $10 cheaper - much better plastic - all properly trimmed - no broken shelves. These are garbage.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great service I had two of these before; needed more storage space, so purchased two more. One was in perfect condition, but the other had a slightly damaged shelf (small crack in plastic) and a poorly manufactured shelf (openings for attachment of legs were the wrong size). The packages came with instructions for calling about any defects. I wanted a replacement for the shelf that didn't fit... had a very good quick discussion with the woman on the phone. Though I was not concerned about the small crack and, from my point of view, one shelf replacement would meet my needs. However, though I emphasized that one was enough, two were quickly forwarded to me with no charge for parts or shipping.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Two sets had missing and defective parts First set of shelves was missing a leg; the second set we bought had 2 legs that were two short and another that had excess plastic from the molding process that it couldn't be used. Paperwork with shelves said "broken or missing parts - do not return to store" and gives a web site where parts can be obtained "free of charge" - except they wanted to charge me $12 to ship one leg! Clearly there is no quality control - the shelves are sturdy once assembled but if you want to avoid repeated trips to the store, plan to open it and check all the parts in the check out line.
