Customer Questions & Answers

Can you purchase additional "feet" to fit into the bottom poles if you were to build them only half as tall and build two sets half as tall side by si

Asked by: Dory
You CAN add these together side by side, by THREE or by FIVE or BY Seven or by Nine. Standing in line at the HOME DEPOT, a lady told me she did it all along her children's playroom two & three high. EVERYTHING had its place that the children could reach. I have done it in a 5 x 15 storage unit that went from 8 feet high to 15 feet high ALL THE WAY up. You pop out the black end pieces, try not to break them. But if you do, that's okay, you only need the parts that the poles actually go into later. Then you place the piece that has no ends on top of the two straddled shelves, then pop in the poles, then pop continue as usual. TO MAKE large holes in shelves, like one that will be double empty shelf, use your black pieces to create a LONG pole to skip, then place the next shelf on top of that. I made room for my nightstand to be stored up about five shelves high. Made room for trash cans being stored to sit on the ground and the three shelves each side, then the shelf about the trash cans. It is almost like legos. I will add an image in a few weeks. getting ready to do in shed built on my property.

Can these shelf systems be hooked together to extend the length of the shelves (i. e. side-by-side)?

Asked by: hbcrandy
There's no built-in design feature that lets them hook together but many ideas have already been given. You could also drill a hole through shelf sides and use a long carriage bolt and nut.

36 in. W x 72 in. H x 18 in. D 5-Shelf Plastic Ventilated Storage Shelving Unit is rated 4.5 out of 5 by 1614.
Rated 4 out of 5 by from poor quality control The manufacturing quality control on the plastic was poor. I had to cut the ragged plastic on most of the stiles with a matte knife in order for them to fit into the holes on the shelves. In some cases the shelving holes also needed to be trimmed. This was the case on all three shelving units I bought. (see pictures) Once trimmed, the item was easy to assemble. It is sturdy and holds a lot of stuff. I have bought this product many times before and about half the time there is this problem.

This is an improved version of similar products carried in the past. The specific improvement is a more robust shelf design which appears stronger than earlier models of the same nominal weight capacity. The product was easy to assemble from the pictorial directions provided, requiring only a light mallet to firmly seat components. The only drawback with this type of shelving unit is that shelf height is not adjustable, being fixed by the length of the provided leg segments between shelves. The lowest shelf bottom is only 1" - 2" above the floor making cleaning beneath the unit difficult.

I have bought many of these in the past but the last 2 I bought had plastic overflow and protrusions that I had to spend 1 hour to shave and cut off before I could assemble it. I reported it to home depot and the manufacturing company who made them and sent email and pictures. I didn't hear back from them. Home depot said they would give me $15 gift card for my troubles. I never got one. Very sad for both companies. Not a bad product but leave yourself 1 hour to cut off the manufacturing defects.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent Value These shelves have surprising strength and rigidity, good design by Keter Plastic Ltd. Assembly was quick and easy. I used a box cutter to trim away some excess plastic flashing. A few careful hammer taps helped to insert tight-fitting vertical rods into shelves. Industrial styling is appropriate for basement, garage, storage shed, work areas. Plastic is free of rust and rot, useful in damp environments. Recommended for moderate heavy duty use--not industrial strength. In early August, 2016, HD offered these at under thirty dollars.

Very functional and very straightforward. That said, the manufacturing and precision as it pertains to the construction of the pieces was pretty shoddy. The flat shelves were unchanged and typical however all the uprights and feet were molded imprecisely. The pieces were also unioned together which required snapping them apart. The real problem was lack of precision in the upright pieces--because the pieces were cast sloppily, there was quite a bit of extra plastic around the edges which made fitting them inside the holes of the flat shelf quite difficult.

It was very easy to assemble, and the shelves are quite strong and durable to hold lots of heavy items. Light weight and easy to move around until you stock items on it. I bought three (3) of them to replace the wooden built-in shelves in my storage unit. Great for storing Christmas boxes.

I had to trim almost every hole with a utility knife to even put this together. Ordered online for in store pickup - the two they had pulled for me both had broken shelves. Two on the sales floor also had visible breaks. Got them home - each set had a broken shelf. The plastic is brittle, they are unstable, the poles don't fit securely. Went online to submit an order for new shelves - was told at the very end that I had to call to finish the order - but not open on the weekend. Returned them and got Plano ones at Wal-mart for $10 cheaper - much better plastic - all properly trimmed - no broken shelves. These are garbage.
