The manufacturing quality control on the plastic was poor. I had to cut the ragged plastic on most of the stiles with a matte knife in order for them to fit into the holes on the shelves. In some cases the shelving holes also needed to be trimmed. This was the case on all three shelving units I bought. (see pictures) Once trimmed, the item was easy to assemble. It is sturdy and holds a lot of stuff. I have bought this product many times before and about half the time there is this problem.

Plenty sturdy. I recommend anchoring these shelves to the wall. 1 1/4 EMT (electrical conduit) two hole straps are perfect. Support was fantastic. Replaced a part FREE even after I admitted I damaged it by not following instructions. Replacement arrived in record time. SALUTE !

Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by Akula114 Economical yet poorly executed shelf system still better than nothing.
At only $39.45, these sturdy and attractive shelves are a steal. I performed the assembly in about five minutes, and was very pleased with the roomy and sturdy shelves. They really help those of us on a budget to create valuable storage space and organize our belongings, garden tools or whatever.
If the quality control was higher, these shelves would be perfect. But, unfortunately, it isn't. The first set we got was missing pieces. All three I bought were sturdy but poorly moulded and not trimmed of excess plastic. In every case, some parts needed to be trimmed with a box cutter just to let the parts fit together. And as I mentioned, in one case the packaged product was missing pieces.
If the quality control was higher, this would be a Five Star winner all the way. As it is, the repeated trips to the Home Depot and time it took to cut away poorly moulded excess plastic wasted valuable time and caused considerable frustration.
All in all I recommend these shelves, especially if you check for all 16 posts, four feet and four toppers. If complete, and you find a set with fewer flaws in the plastic, you have a hands down winner. If you are easily frustrated and don't have more time than you think to assemble them or fetch the missing part(s) from the Home Depot, maybe you should pass these up.

I usually try to buy shelving at Costco for this reason. Every time I buy a HDX shelf set there is ALWAYS a surprise when it come time to assemble it - and it ALWAYS goes unnoticed until you COMPLETELY unpackage the shelving.
I suspect that a LOT of people find a fix or a work-around to remedy the problem rather than re-package everything and take it back to Home Depot for an exchange. Based on my experience, I would be afraid that the replacement shelves would also have some sort of issue..

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Fel EXCELLENT VALUE for garage/utility shelves!!
I just put this together today and am very pleased with the product. I love the height and the option to make my utility room more functional and less messy. Yes there was some excess plastic on some of the pieces but when I turned the piece and pushed hard enough they would go through.
I will be going back to buy 2 more. Can't get $30 for 5 shelf unit anywhere else.

I bought this on sale. And would have never considered it at full price now that it is fully assembled. It wouldn't have been worth the full price. It was not the easiest shelving unit to put together. Instructions state no tools required, but I needed a hammer and a utility knife.
It is fairly sturdy, but this until is covered in little plastic apendages that needed to be cut off (see photos). On one of shelves, 2 of the 4 openings for the plastic rods had to be reshaped with a utility knife for rods to fit/hold shelf.

Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by GerryATrick Great service
I had two of these before; needed more storage space, so purchased two more. One was in perfect condition, but the other had a slightly damaged shelf (small crack in plastic) and a poorly manufactured shelf (openings for attachment of legs were the wrong size). The packages came with instructions for calling about any defects. I wanted a replacement for the shelf that didn't fit... had a very good quick discussion with the woman on the phone. Though I was not concerned about the small crack and, from my point of view, one shelf replacement would meet my needs. However, though I emphasized that one was enough, two were quickly forwarded to me with no charge for parts or shipping.

Has quite a few misformed molded plastic pieces, but doesn't affect structurally or cosmetically. Hold plenty of weight and perfectly good for storage. Good value at $30
