Questions & Answers

Can you purchase additional "feet" to fit into the bottom poles if you were to build them only half as tall and build two sets half as tall side by si

Asked by: Dory
You CAN add these together side by side, by THREE or by FIVE or BY Seven or by Nine. Standing in line at the HOME DEPOT, a lady told me she did it all along her children's playroom two & three high. EVERYTHING had its place that the children could reach. I have done it in a 5 x 15 storage unit that went from 8 feet high to 15 feet high ALL THE WAY up. You pop out the black end pieces, try not to break them. But if you do, that's okay, you only need the parts that the poles actually go into later. Then you place the piece that has no ends on top of the two straddled shelves, then pop in the poles, then pop continue as usual. TO MAKE large holes in shelves, like one that will be double empty shelf, use your black pieces to create a LONG pole to skip, then place the next shelf on top of that. I made room for my nightstand to be stored up about five shelves high. Made room for trash cans being stored to sit on the ground and the three shelves each side, then the shelf about the trash cans. It is almost like legos. I will add an image in a few weeks. getting ready to do in shed built on my property.

Would you consider using this shelf in a dorm room? I would put containers and baskets etc to hold stuff but can't find any reviews on such????

Asked by: crossed
It would be perfect for a dorm room or anywhere you like. It is attractive and light weight. It is white trimmed in gray. Inside or in a garage or shop.....perfect. So..... YES.

Can these shelf systems be hooked together to extend the length of the shelves (i. e. side-by-side)?

Asked by: hbcrandy
There's no built-in design feature that lets them hook together but many ideas have already been given. You could also drill a hole through shelf sides and use a long carriage bolt and nut.

Easy disassembly if you move. I bought 2 for the shed and 4 for the garage. One damaged part was shipped in 5 days no charge. Extra parts are inexpensive if you want to modify. A few parts required trimming. Light taps with a rubber mallet sets the parts well.

It after taking all of the pieces out I noticed almost every piece had extra plastic attached to it. It appears it was completely overlooked by quality control. It went straight from the molds to the terrible packaging. What should have been 5 minutes putting this together took almost 90 minutes because I had to trim every piece with a box cutter so it would properly fit together. Also, multiple portions of the shelves were broken. The quality of this unit was very subpar to the great HDX products I am accustomed to purchasing. I would not recommend this. For $40, I would at very least expect proper fitment and quality.

I have bought many of these in the past but the last 2 I bought had plastic overflow and protrusions that I had to spend 1 hour to shave and cut off before I could assemble it. I reported it to home depot and the manufacturing company who made them and sent email and pictures. I didn't hear back from them. Home depot said they would give me $15 gift card for my troubles. I never got one. Very sad for both companies. Not a bad product but leave yourself 1 hour to cut off the manufacturing defects.

Bought this to replace the aging plastic shelves i had in the garage. The plastic ages and gets brittle and then eventually breaks after 20 yrs or so. I won't be the one to replace these !

As stated in some other reviews, there are some quality issues. One of the uprights was poorly molded and didn't fit snugly into the shelf. Also, the caps to cover the opening for the uprights on the top shelf were the incorrect size to fit over the upright. I needed to cut off a couple of inches on each of the highest uprights in order to get the caps into the top shelf. Once assembled it is a decent unit, but not as good as others I have purchased in the past.

It is much better than having them stacked up on each other. The price great. They would be very easy to assemble except that there was flash in the holes where the legs are inserted on all three shelves I purchased. It took some pretty serious work with a mat knife to clear the holes and was somewhat time consuming. I was surprised that these got past quality control inspections. Once we got all the flash cut out, the shelves were great.

Pros: sturdy, super easy to assemble. Cons: At the center of each shelf on the surface where you'll place items, there is a small, sharp, plastic protrusion- it's plastic from the molding process. Had to cut it off with a razor blade or clothing placed on the shelf would snag. Also, the top caps do not fit. Doesn't impact function, as I won't be placing anything up there that will fall into the hole, but it seems it's not sized correctly in order to fit in the hole.
