None the parts just fit together and since our shelf was in a confined space I chose to glue it

Nope, just your hands. I'd keep a knife on hand to help cut open the plastic wrapping or perhaps some clippers to trim excess plastic but that's all completely optional.

None! Full stop! End of story. All hand assembled. Only tricky bit is being sure you put the legs in the right way up. You'll see what that means when you get the kit. There is a tapered and a wider end of each piece of the leg and you can do it upsidedown. If you do, it takes about 30 seconds to reverse everything.

Good question, because this was important to me too. I don't have a tape measure handy, but I would say they are about 15" in between each shelf. The little feet are not more than 3", so you can do the math.

The bottom shelf ends up being about 2 1/4" off the floor. Each shelf is about 1 1/2" thick, and the shelves are 16" apart. Therefore, total unit height is 52".

The October 2013 answer is incorrect. There are no rivets, and the shelves are not adjustable.
With the unit's "feet" in place, the clearance between the floor and the bottom of the first shelf is 2 1/4 inches. The clearance between all other shelves is about 14.5 inches. Each shelf is 1 9/16 inches thick.

Answer:
The height of the shelves is adjustable with rivets that slide into grooves on the unit. Just slide out of the groove if you want to lower or raise the shelf. Don't have to use all the shelves either, if you just wanted 4 tall ones, that would work fine. They raise/lower in 1.5" increments (thats how far apart the grooves are on the unit.)

It's not a question of weight, if you put the heavier boxes at the bottom for stability. I have two fully loaded shipping book boxes on the bottom and no problem for the weight. And with a low center of gravity, tilt-lean-fallover risk is minimized.

That being said, I wouldn't expect to put 4 grown men on these things and have it hold up very long. I have about five of these units and they hold everything from tools to kitchen electrics to towels and even canned goods. The unit with the canned goods (it is loaded on the bottom three shelves with cans stacked two high, and big boxes of cereal on top) has held up for several months, although it is starting to twist a little (not a huge surprise). This unit will be fine for most light to medium duties. For the real heavy stuff, I ordered some Gladiator shelves that were considerably more expensive but could probably be used as a bunk bed set! Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Long Lasting Convenient Shelving The shelves are very easy to assemble, it only takes minutes.. They are durable and pleasing to the eye. This is my third purchase of the same shelves. I use 2 sets of shelves in my work area and 1 set to hold my coffee supplies and extra soft drinks. I prefer these shelves over metal shelves that can rust over the years. August 3, 2016

Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by These shelves were bowed right out of the box I would only recommend these shelves if someone was going to use them for towels or crafts of light items. They look nice. I'm going to see how far they bow with what I have on them , if they bow more they will have to go back. Thank God Home Depot has 90 day return policy. They are also some what wobbly. Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by Good product, bad QC I was pretty excited to get one for the price, as my friend bought the same and it was great. However when I got mine I was upset because I expected a finished product. It was bought in the store wrapped in heavy plastic and came with one shelf corner completely crushed. Also it had excess and sharp plastic all over the parts. I had to rip parts off the plastic injection tree and trim the sharp nubs. I then had to sit there with a knife and shave off plastic until I could fit the parts in each hole. Buy your QC person a coffee, Home Depot. The only upside to this was the replacement part website was easy to use. January 20, 2016
Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by Unfinished business When I received the units, one of the shelves was broken. According to the directions in the box, I contacted the manufacturer and advised them of the problem. Two week later, I received a response that if I would supply my address, they would ship out a new shelf. That was at least a month ago, and even though, I gave them my address, the shelf has yet to arrive. Maybe I haven't waited long enough! July 26, 2016
