Customer Questions & Answers

Can this shelving unit be divided into two or set up as a shorter shelving unit?

Since the corner poles look to be assembled in pieces, can this shelving unit be set up in two separate pieces or as a shorter shelving unit?
Asked by: Valerie
yes you can put all four the shelves on the lower half and not use the upper tubes (they screw in) or make two shelves per each half, but you'd loose the adjustable feet on the other half, if that's not an issue.

Will this unit rust in humid conditions, like in a basement? Want to know if I can use them to store canned goods in my unfinished basement

Asked by: JS29
it is thoroughly painted so unless you were to damage the finish, i doubt it would rust. the adjustable feet have bare metal threads, so you could fully remove them, spray with lubricant and reinsert and adjust them. also place the foot pads on a thin spacer to keep off the concrete floor. these shelves should last a long time. they are quit solid once fully assembled.

What is D STEEL? How is it different from wire shelving for instance?

Asked by: Yuri
not really sure what "D" means but these are wire type, welded construction. each wire may have been stamped or cut from a sheet, not sure. they are fairly light weight but appear quite solid when fully assembled. from the internet: High carbon-chromium: the D-series The D-series of the cold-work class of tool steels, which originally included types D2, D3,D6, and D7, contains between 10% and 13% chromium (which is unusually high). These steels retain their hardness up to a temperature of 425 °C (797 °F). Common applications for these tool steels include forging dies, die-casting die blocks, and drawing dies. Due to their high chromium content, certain D-type tool steels are often considered stainless or semi-stainless, however their corrosion resistance is very limited due to the precipitation of the majority of their chromium and carbon constituents as carbides.

4-Shelf 36 in. W x 72 in. H x 16 in. D Steel Shelving Unit is rated 4.5 out of 5 by 77.
Rated 4 out of 5 by from plastic half-clamps are designed to grasp small indentations in each tube (leg). then the shelf i... plastic half-clamps are designed to grasp small indentations in each tube (leg). then the shelf is supposed to secure the clamps, well sometimes they work and sometimes they are very difficult, they have tendency to slip off the slight indentation. definitely a two man job. maybe if one secured them with masking tape first the job would go easier. fully assembled it appears quite stable and has adjustable feet for leveling. overall was a good price (about 50 on sale) and free shipping to the house. i doubt there was a better bargain out there.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Sold but needs 5 shelves The unit is easy to assemble and seems sturdy so far, just make sure the plastic collars don't slip as you slide the shelf down onto them which locks them in place. I wish I could purchase an additional shelf for this unit. But after contacting Home Depot and the company, apparently it is not possible. There is quite a bit of wasted space between the shelves.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Metal Shelving When we moved into an older home, they lacked cupboard space. my wife coming from Italian background suggested shelving like they use in Europe. She started her search and found the 4 shelf unit. hoping they were of good quality and heavy (said 300 lb shelf ) we couldn't wait to get. The shelves were good quality and fit the bill. We are very European in our kitchen with these quality shelves.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Best Shelves I have purchased These shelving units are much larger and sturdier than the photos or description would attest to. I buy shelving to stock all of my couponing items, and typically that is all they hold. I bought 3 of these and they have completely cleaned up my basement, as they easily store large totes, luggage, tools and paint. I was not expecting them to be so large and sturdy. Assembly took my husband 30 minutes for all three. At $29.99 they were a bargain - I hope they go on sale again! I'm buying more for my garage and shed!!

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Low Price Bought 7 sets, returned 8 shelves (of 28) due to poor welds where the shelf wires were welded at the corners. About half the top post caps were damaged. Shelf compression sleeves worked great. Super design. QC was not great. Plan to buy another set just to use the extra shelves. Hope we can get 4 out of 4 that are good but the rate of defect seems to be about 1 shelf per set. You might not mind the poor welds. They would likely hold, I just didn't want to take a chance. Price was about half of equivalent units.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from A very good set of shelves I'm quite happy with these shelves. I picked them up at an after-Thanksgiving sale and they were a bargain. Set-up was quick and easy. All the parts were there and easy to assemble. They are solidly build and quite suitable for any indoor use. They have potential as garage storage units if not loaded too heavily. They are matte black and look good. Mine are in a pantry closet and they work well for their purpose -- I had to shorten them 6 inches to fit, but that was easily done with a hack saw and they still look great.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Best deal out there Not much to say--I would recommend this product for any storage needs. If I had more closet space I would buy more. I store my catering supplies on there & it works great. One thing I didn't originally notice that is cool, is the legs have adjustable feet in case the surface has uneven heights. That is definitely a nice extra feature I hadn't expected.
