Answer:
It can be as much or as little as you want it to be. The kit comes with 5 shelves and we spaced ours at around 13-14" between each shelf which gave us room for the tools that we wanted to store with it. You can control the shelf spacing in 1" increments along the entire length of the support poles, so if you want a shelf that is 3" apart, you can do that.

You can make the height anything you want between the shelves - I made mine all the same at 13 inches each. The pole is marked off in 1' increments. The only rules to follow is that the bottom shelf shouldn't be more than 6" from the floor.

The shelves are completely adjustable so the distance between shelves can be changed to fit your needs. The only exception to this is the manufacturer recommend that the bottom shelf be no higher than 6 inches from the floor.

Answer:
The height between shelves is adjustable and there are no common markings. I wanted my shelves evenly spaced as shown in the listing photo. Starting at the bottom, I installed the lower shelf at 2-inches with 15-inches in between each shelf. The poles are scored in 1-inch increments to help you measure. Alternatively, you could use a tape measure.

Hello Teatime,
The space between the shelves is completely adjustable depending on you space requirements. The shelves adjust with the use of small plastic stop collars which you can secure to the legs of the shelving unit. I hope this information helps.

Note that the weight capacity of those casters is only 600 lbs, versus 1500 lbs of the shelf unit. The casters will not hold what the shelf will.

I own both the lighter-duty 4-shelves unit with wheels and the industrial 5-shelves unit. The wheels from the 4-shelves unit fit in the screw-holes of the 5-shelves unit if you remove the adjustable levelers (feet). This leads me to believe that the wheels can be purchased separately.

Answer:
Yes. You will lose the ability to level the shelving unit, but the wheels or casters, as they are often referred, will allow you to easily move the shelving unit, since it's quite heavy when loaded up. For this shelving unit, I recommend heavy-duty (600lb) capacity casters with brakes, which are sold at Home Depot for under $20 for the set of 4. The model number is 30260PS-YOW.

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by What a difference to have handy storage in the kitchen nook! Wow! This unit was so easy to put together...just taking about 15 minutes for my daughter and 16 yr old grandson. This chrome shelving unit looks so neat in the kitchen breakfast nook. It holds the overflow of snacks, prepackaged lunch items, some paper goods and the mixer. We bought baskets that coordinate with the current color theme in the kitchen. It looks wonderful and very neat! August 2, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Good Quality shelf This goes together easily and all the parts fit correctly - which is not always the case with these kind of shelves. This one is well engineered and well constructed, and makes a very sturdy shelving unit. The additional support rod down the center of each shelf prevents sagging, and the legs are easily adjusted to level the shelf. Be aware, however, that this is truly industrial strength - the shelf itself weighs a little over 50 pounds. I got it on a great sale, but its well worth the full purchase price. August 2, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Heavy Duty Commercial wire rack worth the $$$ for sure Amazing easy assembly, adjustable feet for balance, high quality, not your average big box store rack/shelving. This one will be around for a LONG time. August 2, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Storage Shelf Good product, easy to assemble, size options allowed for perfect fit and very functional for our intentions, tennis equipment and bags storage. May 24, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Clutter be gone This shelf took about 20 minutes of assembly time and required no tools or additional hands. I am so happy to reclaim all the space that was occupied by bunch of boxes sitting on my basement floor. Now everything is organized on this shelf and is easily accessible. It is sturdy and will sure last me many years. Adjustable base turned out to be of great convenience since my basement floor is a bit uneven. Shelves are adjustable which allowed me to set the lower shelves with more space and if I need to ever readjust them, the process is simple and fast. It’s good to know that I can install casters and make it mobile but for now it’s working out great with fixed base. With 300 lbs. weight capacity per shelf and ample storage area, it’s a great buy. May 17, 2014
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Love Love this shelving This is exactly the size shelving I needed in my work room. It was really simple to put together. You can put the shelves any height you want and it's very simple to make a change in height if you change your mind. We had the shelves set up in less than 30 minutes. It's easier with 2 people but I think I could have managed by myself if I had to. The larger storage cubes fit perfectly on these shelves. I had some other shelves that, because of the outside legs, I couldn't fit 3 cubes across on the shelf. April 28, 2014
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by This is the real deal This shelf is built solid. It is sturdy yes can be moved easily when empty. It assembled very quickly and easily. The directions were easy to follow and parts were labeled. Adjusting the shelf height is quick with just a few taps The adjustable feet makes leveling effortless. No surface is 100% level so being able to unscrew the feet to have full contact between 4 legs is priceless. The finish is strong and the grills allow airflow so that nothing gets moldy or rotten. I will use these over a wooden shelf any day May 5, 2014
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Excellent shelving unit! This was perhaps the easiest shelving unit I have put together. It was easy enough that my seven year old son was able to help me (until it was too high for him to reach!). The total assembly time could not have been much over ten minutes. It is very stable and very strong. This thing does not shake or move at all. I have a number of free standing, multi-tier shelving units like this. This is the one I will buy again in the future.
