I'll be connecting an outdoor fountain to my outdoor electrical outlet. I want to bury the extension cord so it looks better and doesn't get in the way. Can this cord be buried? Or is there a special kind of extension cord for buried applications? What about where the fountain cord plugs into the extension cord? Do I need any special protection there?

Hi GandyDancer.
Thank you for your great question.
Electrical cords are not rated for underground burial. You would need to place the cord inside an approved underground electrical conduit.

Be sure to consult your local building code for compliance. You would be safer using approved electrical conduit that can be wired to an outdoor GFI outlet and receptacle, especially since this is for a water fountain.

Fountain cord plugs still need to be plugged into a GFI outlet.

Answer:
No. You need a haevier duty cord. The wire thickness and casing will have to be a fail safe combinatio . With the power being drawn, heat and the longevity I would recommend a more appropriate fit. Not to down grade this cord. For under $10.00 you should not only have one on hand but multible.

I want to use this cord for a bug zapper & need to know if it is ok to zip tie along a fence & leave out or do I need to put it up when not in use. Or might there be some kind of cover for the cord ends.

Hi nataunae,
Any extension cord is designed for temporary use, this specific cord is a light duty cord and will deteriorate if left exposed to the weather. None are designed for a permanent installation.

Answer:
HI Sunny,
The basis on which to determine the proper cord, is the amperage required by the item you are powering. While this cord may work, it may be too small for the items you are using with it.
I would recommend 12/3 extension cords for use with a generator.
