I use a LOT of these wire metal shelves in various heights in black and chrome. In a non-climate controlled storage facility, I had slight rust spotting after a couple of years, and I'm not sure if there were water issues at the facility that I wasn't advised of. The rust spots were not overwhelming and I've continued to use the shelves - taking them apart and building them back up. I always buy casters (wheels) because they raise the height of the first shelf several inches from any damp ground, lock in place to not roll, and allow me to easily move the entire shelf without having to take anything off. I put the first plastic shelf holders directly above the casters... giving me a little more shelf space than if I had to use the first bottom ridge slot a little higher up, which I would need to use if I utilized the little footers instead of casters. Answer:
You do not have to use the wheels in the application if you do not want to. Each leg also comes with an adjustable foot that you would remove if using the wheels. The finish is solid, and I do not believe you would have any problems using it in an area that had some moisture.

Verry versitile. Can be adjusted in 1 inch increments to total height. At least two shelves at a couple feet apart would be needed for stability.

Answer:
When you put the shelves together, you can determine what amount of space you want between each shelf. By doing this you can keep the bigger, heavier items on the bottom and the smaller items toward the top.

Customer Reviews

Rated 4.6 out of 5 by 33 reviewers.
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by watch out for rough finish In assembling this unit I had a sliver of metal break off and embed in my hand...not a particularly pleasant experience. Also one of the shelves was flawed in the manufacture process. I could make it work, as it was too much hassle to try to replace it. I did like the fact that this unit came with a back ledge guard to prevent things falling off the back of the shelves. These are fine for utility shelving. I am using it in my kitchen for storing pots, pans, mixers, and other appliances and kitchen paraphernalia, so I wanted the heavier industrial type shelving. The finish could have been better in spots...word to the wise you may want to wear gloves while assembling these units. Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Just what I needed. Perfect for the bottom of the basement stairs. I was anticipating having to replace the washing machine in the basement but due to shelving at the bottom of the stairs, I couldn't get the washer turned around the corner to get up the stairs. Now with these wheeled shelves and the other shelves gone, I will just have to roll them out of the way when the dryer goes. Perfect. August 16, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Well made. The unit was easy to assemble and appears quite sturdy. I purchased it on sale. I'm not sure I would have been willing to pay full price. August 16, 2016
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by good price on a good product It was easy to assemble with two people. Instructions were vague. August 2, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Easy to Build, Sturdy Storage I have been wanting shelving units for my basement to store bins and large items not conducive to being stuck in closets (or in the bins), primarily holiday decorations and such. These shelves have been perfect. I can see what I'm looking for and if I need to move the shelves to better get to something, the wheels make it easy to do. (I have the unit in a basement storage area so you never know what other stuff I'll pile around it making some obstacles!) I found assembly easy, probably took about half of an hour. I was able to do the entire assembly by myself although I'm sure a second set of hands would have sped up the process a bit. In order to set the shelves into place you put little plastic pieces around the vertical poles. They prevent the shelves from going any further. Be sure to count the number of hashmarks on the poles so you have equal spacing for each plastic stopper or you will have uneven shelves. It's not terribly hard to push the shelf back up and pop off and move the stopper, but easier to do it right the first time! The unit is sturdy and I'm pleased with it. November 21, 2015
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Just what we needed! The design and functionality and ease of assembly is perfect for our storage needs. The wheels for ease of relocating the shelf with contents intact and the vertical dividers and shelf back stops are very useful features. The flexibility in adjusting the distance between shelves is a real plus not usually found in products in this pricing range. It seems well constructed. We are using it to store and aggregate weight of 150-225 lbs (put heavy items near the ground level for added stability and mobility). May 10, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Great Heavy Duty Shelving I cannot help but notice how this shelving unit is so much heavier than the others I have. It is strong enough for my heaviest items. It was very easy to assemble. The instructions suggested to use 2 people, but I was able to do it single handed. You assemble this unit from the bottom shelf up. I started by laying 2 assembled poles on the floor then inserted the other 2 poles. There are plastic shelf holders that you clamp on to each pole at the same level, then slide the shelf over them. After the bottom shelf was secure, I stood the unit up and standing on a chair, slid each shelf down over the plastic holders at the level I wanted. The bottom of the legs come with leveling feet. They also provide heavy duty locking casters which I used so the shelving would be easy to move around. August 27, 2015
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Exactly What We Needed! Heavy duty, versatile, and simple to assemble. We needed a sturdy shelving unit in the garage and this fit the bill... perfectly. We particularly like: - WHEELS: it’s easy to move the loaded unit out of the way to clean the floors and rearrange the garage. Two wheels lock in place. However, the poles are pre-fit with self-leveling feet if that’s your preference -WIRE SHELVING: makes it easy to see what’s up high, doesn’t collect dust (or critters) to the extent of solid shelves, and allows for hooks and attachments. The manufacturer says the shelves are good to 500 lbs each, evenly distributed; be aware that the static load, with casters, is 600 lbs TOTAL for the unit (according to the website). The steel is not coated or painted and presumably not weatherproof. I wouldn’t trust storing it outdoors or in a corrosive environment. -SHELF SPACING VERSATILITY: the tapered plastic sleeves allow the shelves to lock into place almost anywhere up and down the pole (although the first shelf needs to be less than 6” from the floor for stability) -SHELF BACKSTOPS: Rare and welcome feature! The manufacturer calls them backstands, but it's great to have something to keep small items from falling off and slipping behind the shelving. The pieces were efficiently packed (we did have to hammer out an uneven spot on a wire shelf). Assembly is fast and easier with two people; not because of weight, but to align the shelves as they slide over the four support posts. October 13, 2015
