Answer:
I use tarps all the time for protecting furniture and other important items. I would recommend putting a piece of material like an old sheet down first and then the tarp over the sheet. With the Texas heat a tarp could stick to the furniture so the layer of fabric will keep the tarp from sticking to the furniture. Excellent water resistant material.

Answer:
Yes, it would but it might not be the best material to do. I am assuming you are tenting for pest control. I would suggest getting drop cloth plastic in the painting department. Also checking in moving supplies, they might have plastic bag designed to easily cover a bed and you could tape the ends to better keep the chemicals out.

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Durable It is serving its purpose perfectly covering my kids' sand box in the back yard. Owned for a few weeks so we'll see how long it lasts over time! October 25, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Tarps This was a solution to fix a water Leak after a hurricane October 18, 2016
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Poor Quality I've purchased 3 of these tarps and all of them only last about 6 months to a year before they start to deteriorate. Evidently they cannot withstand the California sun for very long. They become brittle and tear real easy. I know I didn't pay much for this product but I would pay more if it lasted longer than a year. October 2, 2016

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Gets the job done I had to move some stinky trash and I was in a hurry and just grabbed the first tarp I could put my hands on.... To my surprise it worked wonders, didn't leave a mess easy to clean and reuse again September 20, 2016
Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by Decent cheap tarp I bought this tarp to cover a trailer load of brush I has hauling. The tarp held up for 10 miles to the dump with only a few holes. If you just need a cheap tarp this will work. August 16, 2016
