We purchased our refrigerator from the Thomaston, Ga store and have been purchasing the filters from the same store. Now this store will not stock the filters any more. The refrigerator is going on its second year with us. What is wrong with that picture.

Bought the two pack for my almost new GE refrigerator. This is the first time I installed a new filter. I thought it was a good deal compared to the GE brand. The HD staff person confirmed it was the correct replacement based on the model # I gave her. Installed it but no water. I reinstalled at least 6 times but no luck. Installed the old GE filter and it worked fine. I am suspecting that GE may have made some change on the newer models that prevents these from working.

I do like to use them. Hopefully they work for the price.
I haven't seen any data on them.
Also, I was very disappointed to see the Spike in Price as the Flint Water Cisis unfolded.
Not sure of any recommendation on this product due to the reasons stated above.

I'm shocked at how much GE still charges for their OEM water filter replacements. It's no wonder that consumers are looking elsewhere for 3rd party choices. I'm glad I did my research and found this replacement. I'm basically getting 2 filters for the price of one GE filter. I would definitely recommend this filter!
I have an older GE fridge so I have an adapter that converts this filter to a compatible installation. It took about 2 minutes to install this new filter and maybe another 10 minutes to properly water cycle it. Super simple install for me. Without shutting the water off (my fridge has auto water shutoff for filter replacement), a simple twist and a slight tug downward released the old filter. Another twist to remove the old filter from the adapter. I washed the adapter to make sure all was clean before preforming those steps in reverse to instal the new HDX filter.
TIP: I WROTE TODAY'S DATE ON THE NEW FILTER LABEL WITH PERMANENT FELT PEN BEFORE INSTALLATION SO I REMEMBER WHEN I INSTALLED IT.
The post installation behavior frightened me a little. On first attempt to draw water it took about 30 seconds before water started spluttering in the cup. Then came some excessive air pressure and spraying of water. I would say about 15 seconds of this and then water started to flow continuously in my cup. Then, the most bizarre thing, the cup started filling up with gray/black water! I must have had about 5-7 cups full of dark fluid. I read somewhere that you are suppose to flow over a gallon of water through the filter prior to drinking, so I continued to fill and dump cups. I would say somewhere around 10 cups it was becoming clear and by the 15-20 cup it was perfectly clear.
During the entire installation process, I had my fridge door open to make sure there were no leaks. I not once had a leak and toward the beginning and cycling process you could definitely hear the water slushing and rushing the filter, however after the cycling it has a normal water flow sound.
I did some flow comparisons too. I was very over due for a replacement but my old filter filled my red cup in 46 seconds. After replacing the old one with a new HDX filter, it only took 23 seconds to fill my red cup. Now that's impressive!
I've posted a few photos to show the filter in place in my fridge, which allows you to see the adapter between the fridge housing and the new HDX filter. And I also have a picture of the gray/black water and clear water after cycling.
Hope this review helps someone else going through the same ordeal. Cheers!

I bought this filter because it was about half the price of a genuine GE filter. I found that It imparts a strong chemical taste to the water ( even more pronounced in the ice cubes). I called the Customer Care phone number for HDX during regular business hours and got a recording. I left my phone number and concern and never got called back. Luckily Home Depot has a very good return policy. After installing a genuine GE filter the water tasted great again. The water in our area ( Indio CA) is very good with no taste. I was using the filter to remove the chlorine.

We have a GE refrig. bought it new 3 years ago at Home Depot when we remodled our kitchen. Its a double door 25 cu ft. We thought only the GE filters were best for it, but when we needed to change our filters a few times back about a year ago one of the floor people at the H.D. store in the appl. dept. told us to try FMG replacements. They were alot cheaper and better too. We bought a set of 2 and I could not put in so many words here how much better the water tasted with this brand of filters. I will never use GE filters again cause the water had a stale taste to it and I just thought maybe it was the way it should taste. NOT SO !! I highly recommened this FMG Filter instead and you will love the better water teste and the lower price too.

Boy when the ice stopped coming ---- it stopped, filter in my refrigerator ceased and water stopped going to the ice maker. Didn't know what caused it and called Home Depot salespeople in Christiansburg, Va. The lady was fantastic, diagnosed the issue, told me they had a special on the filters and she'd hold one for me. It was a H.D. item and got 2 for1, great deal, good price. Came home and installed it and "there be ice" in a short time. This is why I shop and buy from Home Depot in Christiansburg, Va.
