I installed the filter and now cant get any water to come out of the door

I have installed this and water will no longer come out through the water and ice dispenser on the front of the door. I have held the water spigot open for an extended period of time thinking the filter had to fill up first but that didn't seem to to work either. I also reinstalled it and still the problem exists. What could be the problem?

In Jan 2016 purchased the HDX filter replacement for the GE MWF filter at Home Depot, and the water continued to dribble. Tried the "O" ring tricks and turns. Didn't help. GE repairman came out and said that the HDX "broke" the valve pin because it wasn't manufactured to the same spec. Said GE has a patent on the design of the top of the filter that screws into the refrig valve. He showed me the two side by side, and indeed, the genuine part is slightly different. Also doesn't use O rings. $250 later we were back up and running, including an authentic GE MWF filter this time. Lesson learned.

Clear Black Carbon After Installation?

I just purchased this HDX water filter and after installing it, I reseted the warning light and tried getting some water out the fridge. The water flowed great, but I noticed the cup full of black carbon particles. I then poured out 1 gallon of water. The water cleared up after the first 1 liter but it's still not 100% clear. After I pour the water into the glass, I see bubbles forming in the water, but again it's not clear. What is the process after installing the filter? How much water must I pour out until it's clear and safe to use? Is the the carbon coming out normal when installing the filter at first? I don't quite trust the water filter at the moment. Thanks for the help.

IggyPOP, it does take a while to get clear water but it will come. I have replaced 4 filters since purchasing my refrigerator an this happens with the GE filter also.

Does this filter the same substances as the GE filter: lead, mercury, toluene, cryptosporidium cysts, chlorination by-products, etc?

Asked by: Anonymous
King Zeus, if I understand your question you are considering this "almost as good" as a GE, BUT cheaper. DO NOT DO IT!!! I did it about 12 mos ago...and regretted every bit of my savings. My (free) advice: Stick with GE products...there is a reason why those "imitations" are cheaper!

FMG Replacement Refrigerator Water Filter for GE Refrigerator is rated 3.6 out of 5 by 186.
Rated 1 out of 5 by from Black water and ice Bought a two pack and thought it was a good deal. Until I installed them. I installed the first one and purged the system. Black water came out. It cleared to a cloudy gray. The ice was the same. About two weeks later my ice maker stopped working. I am pretty good at repairing it so I checked everything and it all worked as designed. I powered the ice maker with alternate power. No issues. So I thought about the filter I installed. So I installed the other filter and then black water came out and the ice maker worked again. So I am going to return both filters and purchase original equipment filter. Which I have always purchased original filters except for this time. Lesson learned.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Grey and black ice We bought this and started to notice grey and black specks- thru the entire 6 months. We thought we had mold, then I looked it up afraid we were going to need a fridge. Tested our fridge without a filter and low and behold the flecks went away!! I called number listed and to get a refund, I have to ship filter back with a receipt and then they will test it!!!! I told them it wasn't worth my time to find the receipt and go to post office and hope they " decide" to give me a refund. In stead I will never buy their product and write a bad review. And make sure to tell my co workers, family and friends. Back to buying the GE FILTER

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent Replacement Works very well and is a much better value than GE's original filter. Easy enough to install without problems but one small glitch to mention. I just bought my second unit of this filter, so this replacement was the first time I have removed and replaced the HDX brand. Be aware that the o-ring of the filter being removed can possibly remain on the head and cause problems with the new filter. I put the new one in place without any real problem but water pressure was low at the dispenser. I followed directions and backed it off and twisted again, and this time I had a leak. Took it off completely and found there were two O-rings. I know to look for this next time.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great replacement, fits great. I've always bought GE replacements for my Monogram fridge, but saw this from HDX and decided to give it a try. The filter came in a single pack (I usually by 3-packs at a time) in a clear clam-shell so I could see that it looked the same as my GE filter. After removing the old filter, this one twisted in just like the original part, with no leaks. After going through the normal process of bleeding out the air, I found that the pressure and flow were good, again just like the original. The water taste was fine, I didn't notice any difference. If it continues to perform well, I'll likely be switching to these in the future. For this review, there is an energy efficiency rating which I'm not sure why. So I gave it average.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Good Filter This is a replacement for the GE MWF cartridge. This filter is shorter than the GE filter, which gives you approx. another inch of shelf space if you need to raise the shelf. Like others have stated, when you remove the filter from the package, remove the plastic plug from the top of the filter and fill the filter with water (prime it) before you install it. Installation is literally a quarter turn to the right. After installation, run approx. 1-1/2 gallons of water through it. After a gallon, I noticed my water was crystal clear. The flow rate on mine was back to normal after 1/2 gallon of flushing. Appears to be a good replacement for the GE model. I just installed it so I can't comment on the durability or longevity of the filter, but I've had good success with other HDX products, and the package also states... Made in USA!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Product was easy to install. Great value compared to the name brand. This replacement filter was very easy to install and the directions were detailed and easy to follow. I installed the filter in seconds. I was nervous after reading a couple of the reviews about spray, dripping out of the water nozzle, and the gray water. I followed the simple instructions to make sure the o-ring was on the filter and flushed the system to remove the carbon fines. Great value. I will purchase this product again.
