Product Overview

This premium HDX replacement refrigerator water filter fits in place of Samsung HAF-CU1S. Engineered with the power of 0.5 micron coconut shell compressed carbon block, this filter provides tremendous capacity to reduce impurities such as sand, silt, sediment rust, chlorine taste and odor that may be present in your drinking water. The carbon block has millions of active sites on its surface and within the structure which can absorb impurities like a sponge, and can hold other types of impurities on its surface like a magnet. Additionally, this filter can catalytically breakdown other impurities similar to the way a catalytic converter works in your automobile. These processes ensure that you are getting the cleanest and best tasting water possible. This economical filter will provide fresh and clean tasting water and ice cubes.

Answer:
With average use, this filter should last for six-months. If your refrigerator has a warning light for the filter, it will let you know about a month before the filter needs to be replaced...plenty of time to source a replacement.

Answer:
The length of time a filter is good for should depend on other factors first. I may use my filtered for all my water uses(Coffee maker or drinking,) or just a glass of water occasionally. Filters are usually monitored by gallons used, mine might be a 1000 gallons a month and others 100 gallons. If possible the change filter warning should come on but if not change it by your amount of usage.

Answer:
It depends on the quality of your water. If you have well water that may have sediment or iron, the filter won't last very long. If your water is clear and is soft water the filter can last a year.
Based on our usage I notice the water flow through the filter begins to slow down at around 8 months.

I put this filter, and worked great after the leaking stopped. But now I'm trying to use Samsung filter and it does not fit on the holder. I'd seen that somebody else got the same problem and was able to put the Samsung filter back on the holder. How to do this? Just turning hard until it fits again?

Appreciate any answer.

Thanks!

I would check the O-rings. There are 2 on this filter and 1 of them may have stayed in the refrigerator. This might cause a leak and make it hard to install another filter. Try to run your finger and see if you feel one.

I am sorry to hear about the difficulties that you have experienced in changing out your water filter. Usually, lubing the black o-rings that come on the filter help slide in the refrigerator easier during installation. I hope that you were able to get your filter re-installed.

If turning is hard, try wiping a little Vaseline on to the rubber washer, just a little, not too much. Make sure it's the same Vaseline you would put on your lips, then it's considered a food grade lubricant.

I've purchased this item several times before and never had a problem. I just received my latest order and could not get it to lock into place. I compared the threads of the new product to the old (same HDX brand) and the locking threads were different. I am returning this filter and ordering another in case it is a fluke, but there has been an obvious change in manufacturing of this product, I hope the new one fits.

Hello ShelNijgs,
There has been a design change to the locking head of this particular FMS-1 refrigerator water filter. However, this should not affect the function or performance of the filter. The change was made to improve the fit of the filter into the compatible refrigerators. We would like to speak to you directly to walk you through the steps and obtain a little more information from you regarding the issue you are experiencing. If the issue that you are experiencing is that the new filter wont turn to the right once you insert the filter, it is possible that your housing head of your refrigerator may have become misaligned. When this occurs, we recommend for you to realign your housing head using your old filter. Here are the steps: Using your old filter, insert the old filter into the housing head while applying a good amount of pressure upwards and turn it to the left as if you were uninstalling the filter. When you are turning the filter to the left, be sure to continue applying a good amount of pressure as you turn it to the left. You will continue turning the filter to the left until you feel or hear a click. The filter will then fall back into your hand. Do not pull the filter out. Once the filter falls into your hand, you will now be able to insert and install your new filter into your refrigerator with no problems. I hope these steps are helpful to you and you are able to get the filter to install into your refrigerator. If you need further assistance, please contact us at 1-855-849-3589 M-F 8am to 5PM PST. We appreciate your time that you took to ask this question.

This is not an answer, but an update. I just received my replacement of this item and it also does not fit my refrigerator when this exact product has for the past 2 years. Manufacturing on this item has obviously changed and it will no longer fit my refrigerator.
Very disappointed.

Hi DIYman,
At this time, we are tested and certified to NSF/ANSI standard 42 which concerns Chlorine, taste. Standard 53 deals with specific contaminants that are removed from the water. The filtration technology used inside of the filter is the same technology as has been used in most refrigerator filters made and sold over the last ten plus years. We have over 50 years combined experience in manufacturing drinking water filters here in the USA. Because we are not the manufacturer of the refrigerator, we are not able to make specific health claims for the product. Therefore, at this time, we cannot make specific claims related to the contaminants that are removed. We are however, currently in the process of getting certified for other NSF 53 certification. It is, unfortunately, a long and extensive process. Once we receive the certifications, we will be able to make those claims. Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by FOR ME.... a slight modification makes this filter work with an older Samsung appliance. Although the claim from the manufacturer of the filter is that you can get this to fit with only realigning the housing head, I never got that to work. My solution was to trim the extra tab on the filter itself. This obviously negates any possibility of returning the unit, but this was my third try at finding a replacement and I was desperate. The filter now fits like a charm without any leaks. August 23, 2016
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Do not Purchase I wish I would have read reviews before I purchased. Purchased double pack and installed 1st filter and ran 3 gallons water before use. The water taste was terrible, almost like gasoline taste, everyone in family thought the same and would not drink. Installed 2nd filter and had same results. We purchased standard Samsung OEM filter and it would not seal, I thought it was Samsung filter and returned and tried second Samsung filter and again I could not install. I goggled and read where you could take a knife and trim the first tooth and was able to install with no leaks. Now I read that this HDX filter was the problem. So much for saving money. May 7, 2016
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Seems equivalent to OEM filter Installed into out Samsung fridge. The process to install is exactly like the Samsung OEM filters we usually buy. Screw it in, and flush 3 gallons through the filter and it's good to go. Size of the filter is about the same as well, although the shape is slightly different. Water through the filter seems to taste the same as the original, so I'd say it's worth a try... I do wish they wouldn't encase it in a plastic package, it's a waste and kind of a pain to open. Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by Seems a quality OEM replacement but it doesn't fit my refrigerator I can't really provide a review of this filter since it doesn't seem to fit my particular refrigerator. I double checked my refrigerator model and the Samsung original filter part number and this filter matches that but it still doesn't install properly. It appears to be like the OEM but the problem I am having is getting the filter cartridge to the "lock" position. You are supposed to be able to turn the cartridge a 1/4 turn but for me, it barely goes half that. I will have to go back to HD to look for other differences on the other filter cartridges to see if maybe mine was incorrectly packaged. Otherwise I like the value of this filter compared to the twice the cost of the OEM filter. June 9, 2015
Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by Leaker Leaked for two days after installing in my Samsung, then stopped. Made quite a mess! Gave it a fair because it did stop leaking. May 10, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Quality product at a more reasonable price There isn't a whole lot you can say about a water filter. We have been using HDX brand water filters exlusively since we needed to replace the original filter that came with the fridge. We have used them on several different brand refrigerators. Each time they have performed great and work as good as the one that came with the refrigerator. I would highly recommend these for 2 reasons......you can pick them up at any Home Depot and the price is 1/2 of the original manufacturer's brand. March 5, 2016
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Redesigned...no longer fits my fridge :( I bought the EXACT SAME filter that is in my fridge now, and the new one does not fit :( I have used this filter for years. They have apparently reconfigured the notches on the top and it no longer fits. Very sad. I am now searching for a replacement. March 1, 2016
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by This filter may have damaged my refrigerator I have used Home Depot FMS-1 filters for the past three-years with no issues, this batch may be manufactured incorrectly. I purchased a twin-pack of FMS-1 filters this morning, installed one of them and no water would come through the dispenser. When I removed the filter, the water (unfiltered, of course) flowed fine. Reinstalled the new filter and had the same issue, no water. Tried the second filter in the package and had the same result. It would go into the holder, but would not dispense water. When I tried to put the original filter that I have been using for the past six-months back in, however, it would no longer fit. Samsung's help line, of course, said the problem was because the replacement filters were not Samsung. So, I purchased a new OEM Samsung filter this afternoon at Lowe's and it will not go in either. However, the two FMS-1 filters I purchased this morning will install. They just don’t let any water through. I suspect that the filter alignment in the receiver has been damaged…have to make an expensive service call now. Will follow-up when I learn what caused the problem. Someone suggested that an o-ring may have come off and stuck in the holder but all of the o-rings are intact and that would not explain why the two FMS-1 filters I purchased this morning will install.
