Thought I would try this one for my Kenmore since the filter is less expensive. Well you get what you pay for. Taste of water not as good and the water remained cloudy for quite sometime.

I couldn't live without these. I live on water, and it drives me nuts having those dry flakes of who knows what floating in them. In my apartment we didn't have a fridge tap, so we put a 2 stage filter under the sink to the cold water tap. It helped, went from big flakes to small particles. This is kinda the same, but even less small particles. It's definetly no 5-stage 300$ water filter system, but it's more than enough (at least for me). Only people that need the 5-stage are those that drink vass and Fiji and other waters that are 3$+ per small bottle.
Does this perform better than other refrigerator filter brands? Maybe a little, but it's still roughly the same. I feel like it might've lasted longer then other brands, but maybe we just didn't use as much water. Either way I Strongly recommend this to anyone that likes clean and 99% clear water!

The filter fits fine but the taste of the water is intolerable. The water tastes like muddy swamp water even after running almost 10 gallons through it. Never again will i try to save $5 buying a store brand filter.

This filter fit my Whirlpool Gold side-by-side refrigerator as a replacement for filter 4396841. It fit well without leaking, and water tastes just as good as the OEM filters after flushing the recommended 3 gallons. It's not a great deal as I recently purchased a 2 pack of the filters these replace for about the same per filter price, but I haven't found a compatible filter for less, and some other retailers' prices have a tendency to fluctuate, so this is always a good alternative if you need a filter and others aren't available or are currently more costly. It's also nice to have an alternative that is available in store so you can pick one up in a pinch rather than have to wait for something to be shipped.

Our Kenmore refrigerator takes this model of water filter. We tried to just do without a filter at all because of the expense and the decreased water pressure as the filter gets near its life expectancy of several hundred gallons. We are on a well and, although we have a whole-house water filter, the water just doesn't taste as good as when it goes through the frig filter. We took the plunge and bought this one even though it doesn't show our model. Voila - fits like an original and our water is good again. Thanks Whirlpool!

While some of the other reviews complained about the taste from this "new" version of the Whirlpool filter, it only took few days after being installed, to not notice any taste after flushing after installation. It was easy to instill. The old filters would still leave some tap water taste, while this new version leaves the water essentially tasteless.

This filter fit my Amana 25.1 cu./ft. side-by-side refrigerator perfectly. It was easy to install and so far, it has performed every bit as well as its brand-name predecessor. It feels well made, and I haven't noticed any difference in the taste of my water whatsoever. This is an excellent alternative to the more expensive name brand filters - excellent find!

I got this replacement filter which is a whirlpool replacement. However, the refridge I was installing it on was an Amana. The HDX carton said it replaces the model that I had in the Amana fridge. The original was a Whirlpool Pur filter. There was a little bit of a design change between the two. When I tried installing it and pushed in and then popped right back out dumping a small amount of water on the floor. I tried about 4 times to install it and each time it would pop right back out. So I decieded to call the Hotline for further instructions. However, it was a Saturday and the hotline is closed, so that was no help. I decided to try it again. This time I pushed it in with a lot of force and it clicked in and stayed in. So I learned that at least with this model you must push pretty aggressively to get it to lock into place. But it did work.
