The description mentions "16 Sae and Metric 3/8 Drive Sockets in 6pt and 8pt." I do not see them in the picture nor does the 76 piece count reflect having 16 drive sockets.

Is that reference mistakenly taken from this product?

Answer:
Yes, they have the hex drive. The bits do seem very short for a drill/driver so, I would use an extension bit.

Is the case really as bad as the reviews say it is? Between the "molded" soft plastic not really holding the tools & the handle breaking easily, I'm hesitant to purchase this item. Otherwise, this seems like exactly what I've been looking for. Any recent purchasers have some advice you'd like to share?

Answer:
Twinkie72, This is our very basic tool set,You get 76 pieces for 19.97. The case is not the most heavy duty case we make, but it is serviceable. The case and the tools are backed by a 90-day return policy, so if the case fails "in its first use" as some users state you can return it.

For a beginner, around the house stuff, this tool set is perfectly capable. The tools are NOT heavy duty, contractor grade, etc... but that is not the goal of this tool set. This is for small, around the house projects... If you are planning on adding an extension to your house or something like that, this is NOT the set for you. If you are just looking at doing small repairs around the house, this tool set has everything you need. One recommendation: Get a better tape measure. The one in here is very thin and light-weight. Replace it with a nicer one, and you should be good to go.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Bought because of other online reviews The selection of tools was OK. They used clamps to round out the number. Not really needed. My problem is that the tools do not snap back into their locations. The expanded plastic mold they fit into is to soft. When you fold the case the tools fall out of the slots. I bought it so that I could have a selection of tools at hand without having to find them in loose storage. Overall tools quality is OK.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Does the job I moved into a new home and did not have my tools with me yet. There were small jobs that needed to be attended to before my tools would arrive. So I went to Home Depot and purchased this tool set. In my opinion, I believe it is worth the money paid for. It served my needs very well. It has a basic variety of tools for what I needed to do. The tools themselves are fine for light work. This set is not for professional use. It is just too light weight. So if you need to hang curtain rods, tighten a few house screws or measure then this set is for you. One disappointment that I had was the so called 'life hinge' on the tool box itself. This hinge keeps the box closed so you can carry it around. It is a very short life for these hinges. It is too bad because then the tool box becomes totally useless. Sure you could use a twisty on the handle but that is just an insult to the integrity to the product itself.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good second set of tools This set of tools is a good second set for the kitchen drawer, rental property, dorm room, etc. The case included is compact. You could assemble pre-cut furniture, hang a picture, do pinterest crafting projects with what is in the case. The price is half of what you might pay for each tool individually. I have recommended this tool set to friends.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Decent Tools / Flawed Case This was a starter toolset for a college student. The tools were fine and very useable but the carrying case closure was terrible. One plastic closure failed after one day use opening and closing the case. Ended up purchasing a bendable twist tie to keep case closed and secure. Avoid this product. Purchase a toolset with a better closure.

The tools were much sturdier than other sets and the grips were much better than other sets for people who don't have small hands. I do not know how long the tools will last but they don't look nor feel cheap, so hopefully they will be reliable through the years.
