I was very glad to have this to install a sink strainer drain in a utility sink. My only complaint is the lack of any type of spring to help with the ratcheting. You have to use both hands to keep the wrench in place and keep checking the drain on top to keep the strainer from turning at the same time. Not quite sure how to add that spring, but I'm sure smarter folks than me can figure it out.

Great tool. Made tightening lock nuts very easy and helped ensure a good seal on drain under my sink.

I should have read the reviews before buying. Just slipped, had to cut off the drain nut, but not before trying to use the HDX Universal Drain Wrench that just slipped also. On first trip to local Home Depot, I tried to get some help with no luck. The associate was busy explaining how to fix his toilet and he never bothered to call someone else to help myself or other customers waiting for help. Never go to Home Depot here on the weekends very shorthanded.

You cannot use this tool to get a strainer nut off. Theres nonway to use any force without it flipping around. The only application this tool is good for is if you havent installed the sink yet and youre putting new baskets in.

Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Rick Best tool I've found for installing sink drains
This is the ideal tool for installing sink drains. I'm not a professional plumber so I don't install them often (although I seem to do more than my share of plumbing work for friends and family doing remodels!), but this tool makes it easy because it provides plenty of leverage and also applies "push" and "pull" at the same time so it's much easier to keep the drain assembly centered while evenly squeezing the plumber's putty. it's a much better choice than the other designs out there that tend to apply as much lateral force as rotational force. My only potential negative about this tool is that it's cast metal from China, so I don't know if it would survive much of a drop on concrete or other rough treatment.

This handy wrench is sturdy and well made, nice finish, easy to use and fits bolts or nuts from 3/16" to 1-1/16", and comes with a lifetime warranty.

Without any sort of spring or tensioner to hold this in place, it's useless for exerting any real amount of torque to get the lock nut off. The adjustable bar just flops around. Somebody suggested a rubber band, but there's nothing there to keep a rubber band from just sliding down when it gets tensioned.
I will be returning this.
