I removed and rinsed the filter today and replaced it after I dried it with paper towel. There is now a faint whistling noise emitting from the unit. It's almost the frequency of crickets but it is continuous. Help!

I don't like a noisy fan but wonder if this unit is considerably quieter than the average one?

Answer:
The sound level varies depending on fan speed up to approximately 59 dB at the maximum fan speed setting. By way of comparison, 60 dB is the sound level of normal conversation, measured 3 feet away, the average ambient noise level in a home is 50 dB. A vacuum cleaner produces 70 dB measured 3 feet away.

Answer:
No. The noise put out by this is similar to a window air unit. If you don't like the sound of a window unit, you probably won't like the sound of this. I do not find it offensive, but that is a matter of sensitivity to sound.

10,000 BTU 350 sq. ft. Cool Only Portable Air Conditioner with 80 Pint/Day Dehumidification Mode and LCD Remote Control is rated 4.1 out of 5 by 584.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Thumbs up Only negative was there was a crack on one of the plastic sleeves. HD support couldn't send a replacement part and said I had to return the entire product back. After which I had already lugged it up a flight a stairs. Lucky enough the hose still fit and stayed in place so I declined to return it. Overall the product works. I've used it couple times lately when it was hot at night to sleep better. Bit loud but what AC isn't, can't complain when I can easily set it to auto shut off after 'x' amount of hours. Very convenient. Blue light can be annoying to some people, I just stuck a post-it note over it after setting the timer before going to sleep.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Does the job I got this unit for a 12 x 12 bedroom with a bit of a vaulted ceiling and it's doing a good job. I really LOVE that I'm not having to empty a pan of water - the unit is evaporating it as advertised. We are using it every day. I also really love the timer...so we can have the unit come on an hour before we get home from school/work. I haven't changed the filter yet but instructions look pretty straight forward. I have seen similar products in classrooms at a school I work at, and I like how this one has a longer hose than others. Our window is a side-opening tall window and the panel for the hose is long enough and fits well. As far as noise...yes, it makes noise. All air conditioners make noise. This unit isn't quiet, but I can't say it is noisier than any other units I've seen.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Nice portable AC Unit keeps us cool in the south Florida heat. I rent a small home in south Florida. It has central air, but the unit is ancient and the landlord isn't going to replace it until it dies. I bought this unit because it can keep one room nice and cool and it's easy to move around the house. At night it cools the bedroom and on days off we put it in the living room. The only down side is that it is a bit loud when it's set on high, so we have to turn the TV up a bit. We are fortunate that all of our windows are the same size, so we only had to fit the exhaust hose once and it works all around our house. This unit is much easier to move around the house than a traditional window unit. It's great value for the money.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from AWESOME UNIT Live in FL and having a record breaking hot and humid summer. My central a/c has a crushed vent to my handicapped son's room and is not reachable. This portable unit has been on 24/7 non stop for a month now. With the door closed or cracked open for his pets, it keeps the temp at 74 (what it is set at). It will go lower if asked to. Since it's in a/c mode, there has been no leaks or need for drainage. At recommended filter cleaning time, there was not a speck of dirt.....and he has furry cats. It is a beautiful, sleek model that is attractive and has a smaller foot print than other models. It is built well and I am shocked how quiet it is. I have 32 ear old slider windows. So I scratched my head a couple of times, then tweaked it a little for a tight fit (and I'm a 66 yr old woman). Also, customer service is very helpful. Upon researching, I found that this model was rated the #1 Gold Standard for 2016 and Home Depot had the best price anywhere. People complained that other brands died after a year. Since Home Depot had such a great price, I bought the extended warranty. So now I have 4 years worry free.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Mediocre at best The air that comes out is cool - but the compressor makes so much hot air that it creates its own heat source. The panels are not big enough for my sliding glass door - so I had to put the vent in my tiny bathroom window. The panel was too big. The ducting connections are hard to work with - the ducting is too short for my setup. I ended up breaking a few bathroom decorations as I tried to get this working. I faced the unit toward my room. After 4 hours the temperature showed 5 degrees lower. I left it on for more hours trying to get the temperature below 70. Never happened. Very unhappy - but I think they're all pretty much the same.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent Product & Value I have owned other portable air conditioners in the past. I love the fact that this one is self contained which means no buckets of water to empty. The sound is not loud - it's very compatible with any other that I've heard. I have one in each bedroom. Turn it on, close the door, and the room is at the temperature that I selected within 10 minutes. I love that I don't loose the ability to still open the window and enjoy the fresh air when I want that instead. It's perfect. When I'm not using the unit, I simply detach the hose and roll the unit into the closet. Has made my life so much easier. Excellent product, excellent value for the money.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from A great way to deal with a hot day We don't get many really hot days, but when it gets hot our master bedroom can be unbearable. This unit was easy to set up and did a good job cooling down the room ... and was quiet enough that we could leave it on overnight. Fan mode is quiet, cooling mode is louder ... but it didn't scare the cats and my wife could sleep through it ... so it wasn't too bad. One thing to consider is where you will be placing the unit. It's a substantial unit (but looks nice) and needs power and a window. Ours is partially blocking a closet, but it's well worth the cooling and it won't be there continuously

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Takes the edge off The good Points: It was really easy to install and fits perfectly in the place I had picked out for it. It blows a good strong stream of cold air and keeps the room I have it in about 5 degrees cooler than outside if the Temp is in the 90's, and it does better if it's only around 85 outside. I live in a very dry climate (New Mexico) and it has made things a little better this summer. The less Good Points: It's pretty noisy, but not outlandish. It added a noticeable chunk to our electric bill. Nights are cool here, so we turn it off around 11 pm...and it added about $30 to the electric bill.
