I have an older portable air conditioner and its hose is attached through a 4-1/2 inch round diameter attachment hole that my building staff put in my casement window. Is there a way I can have this air conditioner hose adapted to fit the 4-1/2 inch round attachment my building staff put in for the older ac?

We do not recommend modifying the unit as this could void the warranty on your Haier product.

I have not needed a longer one but did not notice a longer one at the online Haier parts store.
Apparently some people buy a second 48" vent hose and join it to the original one by a variety of methods. An internet search will show some examples (such as video: bsLL7fjajpk at youtube.com). Also, you can check for 5" vinyl vent hose from a variety of online vendors.

Have you checked and replaced the batteries in the remote? Did the LED lights ever light up or have they just stopped lighting up now? If you have changed the batteries and the remote is still not working you can purchase a replacement here.

Please check your battery on he remote. If it is old, replace it.. If you just replaced them, check to see if it is in the correct orientation.
If everything looks okay, remove the battery and re-install again.(may be it does not have good contact) Unplug the AC and plug it back after 1 minute. See if that helps.

Customer Reviews

Rated 4.1 out of 5 by 621 reviewers.
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Didn't last 4 months I read the reviews just like you are. Everything sounded good. People seemed to be enjoying them. I don't know if I got a lemon, or what but mine was nothing like what the positive reviews said. Mine repeats many of the same issues others have had that have rated this unit poorly. First off, it is loud. Like something's wrong sort of loud. It rattled and vibrated loudly upon start up of the condenser and stayed that way until it shut off with a sudden thud that always startled me. It cooled wonderfully. That was the one good thing about this unit. Unfortunately the unit broke not 4 months after my getting it. It happened a 12:30 am, a clatter that sounded as if someone had threw rocks into a blender and hit frappe! Scared the living daylights out of me. I turned the unit off, unplugged it and took the hose off the back to find plastic shards in the hose and bits stuck in the vent itself. Upon using a flashlight to peer inside, I saw more bits of broken plastic. I called the warranty number who gave me the number of a repair place here in my area. Speaking with the repair people over the phone, they informed me that the fan blower wheel thingy, (they used technical terms I can't remember 100%) was broken and that they see it quite a bit in these units. That a bad lot of units were sent out and buy one of these is a bit like playing Russian Roulette. I asked what would be a quality portable AC and the said, "get an LG" So, if you are looking for a portable AC, please follow their advice and go with LG. September 13, 2016
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Great purchase Unit works as described- was placed in a 20x20 un- insulated garage- to cool the area for our dogs and also doubles as a photography studio- weather had been in the high 90's, easily brought the area down to 75-78- when allowed to run overnight to precondition the area, easily held the temp at 72-75 when outside was 99. No issues yet- I permanently installed an exhaust port on the wall. the air from this hose is very hot- its important that you seal the exhaust area so no hot air gets pulled back in the room. Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by Problems from the get go Bought this from the positive reviews, hoping that that mine wouldnt' be one of the ones with all of the issues. Something must have happened during shipping. We got one with a cracked connector, snapped valve, scratched front. Was able to set it up fine, but then it leaked allllllll over my hardwood floors. The only way I could run it was if I put cookie sheets underneath it to catch the water. Called HD, they said to return it no problem. Called Haeirer and they were useles, tell me to empty things that this model didn't even have. Clearly the condenser isn't working. Now I have to lug this thing back to HD and wait in the 90+ degree weather a week for a new one. Not thrilled to say the least. On the plus side it did an ok job at cooling and the noise wasn't too bad. Looks nice too. August 13, 2016
Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by Bulky and Noisy Assembly & start up was easy. It was larger (deeper) than I anticipated. The photo made it look quite thin so the location I had planned on, didn't work and I had a hard time finding a place for it. Also, I did not realize I was expected to screw the exit panel onto the window. My windows are new so I'm trying to prop the exit panel without screwing it & wrecking my new windows. It does cool fairly well. However, the unit gets very warm and is constantly turning on and off, not maintaining a constant sound. We found we are constantly turning the TV volume up and down as the unit is turning on/off while working. Our old window unit was quieter. September 6, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Works Great!!! At first I was concerned about setting it up. We actually scheduled an appointment with our handy man to come over to have him do it but in the mean time it had gotten so hot in the bedroom where we were putting it in that I went ahead and decided to try and do it myself. My 14 year old son and I set it up probably within less than 15 minutes. The temp read in the room 82 degrees at the start. The bedroom I have it in is large it took about 6 hours and it brought it down to 74 degrees. You need to make sure you keep the bedroom door closed that helps with keeping the temp stable but actually it has been keeping my large master bedroom the same temp between 72-73 degrees with no issues. Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Works great! This airconditioner works great. The assembly is relatively easy once the steps to do it. I didneed to ducttape to the accordion tube to the airconditioner. It is as loud as typical window airconditioner. I definitely need to turn the TV louder. It works for our needs. September 21, 2016
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by It works I have only used this deal a few times. Don't get me wrong -- it definitely cools my room. But it takes a lot of pumpin to do that. And it is really loud. And the light is bright when it's operating, which isn't a plus, since the unit's in my bedroom. But I'm very glad to have it and be able to sleep when it's sweltering. September 13, 2016
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Unit is twice the size- width and depth with hose attachment The unit is huge. The depth and width measurement is deceptive, there is a connecting piece as well as a hose attachment, the closest the AC can get to a wall is 25" from the front, double the width to get an accurate size. The hose attachment gets hot when running the AC. Think cooling down a room while the oven is on. My less expensive window unit with 10,000 BTU in a larger room works better than this. After trying this AC in two rooms, I have to exchange it for a window unit that uses less space and cools down a room while not heating it up at the same time. August 9, 2016
