Customer Questions & Answers

Can I hook up a hose for a continuous drain?

Asked by: Tomsr
Yes, there is a place to do that if needed. I've found that the auto evaporation works pretty well - using it as an air conditioner. It will all depend on the humidity of your location though.

Please make sure you have a dedicated plug for this unit- plug directly into the wall outlet and not a strip. Also check your breaker- if it is flipping a lot, you might have a bad breaker. This unit also has a built in condensation reducing system and if your drain tray is filling up too fast, there might be a safety switch that won't allow you to power it up- I personally have not had any of these issues but I am using my unit as a booster in a hot office that doesn't get as cool as the rest of my home via central a/c. Hope that helps.

How do you drain the water

Asked by: Anonymous
To drain the water from the unit, place a shallow pan (I use a baking sheet) below the lower drain (located near the bottom of the A/C unit). Remove the plug, drain the water and then put the plug back in. Or, you can wheel your unit out to a patio or deck, open the drain plug and let it drain outside. Draining it outside eliminates the need to stand there and worry about the pan filling.

How well will it cool my 850 sq ft loft?

I can't afford the big bad 14000 btu unit. Even this one is pushing my budget. I just can't deal with my landlord's swamp cooler any more. I walk into my house and it's only 79* but the humidity is like 65%. UGH! Will this thing at least get the place to 79* will say 35% humidity or less? The house is well insulated with low E windows.

It will cool that nicely...I have it cooling my downstairs no problem and its set at 70 degrees. About 900 sq ft of room

Customer Reviews

12,000 BTU 450 sq. ft. Cool Only Portable Air Conditioner with 100 pt./Day Dehumidification Mode and LCD Remote Control is rated 4.1 out of 5 by 622.
Rated 1 out of 5 by from Didn't last 4 months I read the reviews just like you are. Everything sounded good. People seemed to be enjoying them. I don't know if I got a lemon, or what but mine was nothing like what the positive reviews said. Mine repeats many of the same issues others have had that have rated this unit poorly. First off, it is loud. Like something's wrong sort of loud. It rattled and vibrated loudly upon start up of the condenser and stayed that way until it shut off with a sudden thud that always startled me. It cooled wonderfully. That was the one good thing about this unit. Unfortunately the unit broke not 4 months after my getting it. It happened a 12:30 am, a clatter that sounded as if someone had threw rocks into a blender and hit frappe! Scared the living daylights out of me. I turned the unit off, unplugged it and took the hose off the back to find plastic shards in the hose and bits stuck in the vent itself. Upon using a flashlight to peer inside, I saw more bits of broken plastic. I called the warranty number who gave me the number of a repair place here in my area. Speaking with the repair people over the phone, they informed me that the fan blower wheel thingy, (they used technical terms I can't remember 100%) was broken and that they see it quite a bit in these units. That a bad lot of units were sent out and buy one of these is a bit like playing Russian Roulette. I asked what would be a quality portable AC and the said, "get an LG" So, if you are looking for a portable AC, please follow their advice and go with LG.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Just OK I purchased this unit to cool the main floor which is under 500 feet with a mostly open floor plan. On a really warm and humid day, it can cool the main room by a few degrees only and the surrounding rooms even less. Am somewhat disappointed but it's better than nothing. Also, although the decibels are supposedly lower than similar models, it's still pretty loud so have to increase the volume on the tv a lot to hear. Was easy to install.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Amazing Air Conditioner We bought the AC unit for our attic turned into a bedroom. It gets really hot up there in the summer heat and humidity. We had tried window air conditioners before but they never got the job done. This unit takes it from 90 degrees to 72 degrees in about an hour so. It does make some noise when it is turning off and on but after a week I don't even here it anymore. The light on the front of it is also pretty bright so if you were going to place it a room that you are sleeping I would aim it in another direction or get something to cover it. Overall, it's a great purchase and worth the money.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Cools as described I've never owned a portable AC before this one, but I did a lot of research on them to make sure I was getting something good. I read lots of reviews on lots of different AC units, and this one, by far, had the best reviews for the best value. The only thing that I don't like about it is the plastic piece that goes in the window (for venting purposes). It just doesn't work very well, but I was able to fill the spaces with foam and used duct tape to tape it in real good, covering any holes completely. There is no hot air coming through, so it works. The unit does put out some very cold air. I have it in my living/dining room area which is somewhere between 500-700 square feet, and this makes that whole area pretty cool.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Bulky and Noisy Assembly & start up was easy. It was larger (deeper) than I anticipated. The photo made it look quite thin so the location I had planned on, didn't work and I had a hard time finding a place for it. Also, I did not realize I was expected to screw the exit panel onto the window. My windows are new so I'm trying to prop the exit panel without screwing it & wrecking my new windows. It does cool fairly well. However, the unit gets very warm and is constantly turning on and off, not maintaining a constant sound. We found we are constantly turning the TV volume up and down as the unit is turning on/off while working. Our old window unit was quieter.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Haier Portable AC Just had a change to use this. It took care of my 1st floor level which is about 950 sq. ft. I set it at 73 and it cooled the whole area. I like the many settings. It is not loud. Easy to install.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Works Great!!! At first I was concerned about setting it up. We actually scheduled an appointment with our handy man to come over to have him do it but in the mean time it had gotten so hot in the bedroom where we were putting it in that I went ahead and decided to try and do it myself. My 14 year old son and I set it up probably within less than 15 minutes. The temp read in the room 82 degrees at the start. The bedroom I have it in is large it took about 6 hours and it brought it down to 74 degrees. You need to make sure you keep the bedroom door closed that helps with keeping the temp stable but actually it has been keeping my large master bedroom the same temp between 72-73 degrees with no issues.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Best Portable AC Out There! I have a serious medical condition that makes me extremely sensitive to warm temperatures. As such, I have gone through nothing short of 12 different models of portable ACs. So, you can definitely say that I have experienced the good and bad. This AC is amazing. I have finally found the solution to my summer woes, as the unit consistently gets my bedroom down to 63 degrees at bedtime (and I live in Washington, DC - the humidity capital!) Kudos Haier for making a portable AC that gets the job done!
