Yes this is a possible installation because the air will go to the outside. In some cases, users want to install this into just a wall or ceiling - however because the air can't circulate properly there is a chance mold and mildew could grow behind the walls. So in your case as long as the exhaust hose vents to the outside this installation application can work. Please make sure the unit is secured when moving or transporting as this unit does have wheels. Also, since this unit has a compressor please make sure it is upright. If the unit needs to be laid down, once it's back in it's upright position please allow 24 hours to pass before plugging in as this give time for the refrigerant to settle and regulate within the unit.
Thank you,

Customer Reviews

12,000 BTU Cool and Heat Portable Air Conditioner with 100 Pints per Day Moisture Removal in Dehumidification Mode is rated 3.6 out of 5 by 47.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Good product While I have only had this product less than two months, it has performed well. When I read reviews for these types of products, I'm more interested in longevity, so this review is based more on a nearly identical unit I have been running for almost 5 years. It is the same manufacturer, identical in appearance and BTUs but does not have the heat function that this one does. It still performs flawlessly and is the reason I bought this second unit for my garage. The original unit helps cool an upstairs room during the hot Texas summers. I really like that you do not have to hook up a drain when in A/C mode.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from It'll do I have had it's bigger brother to help the central when the temperature goes to 100 degrees and it does the job. I also got a smaller one for the bedroom at night. However if the central goes out your stuck in one room. I went to Home Depot and they were out of the one I wanted and settled for this. It's ok and it keeps the living room tolerable around 85 to 90. I'd suggest that if you're afraid of having to use one and you're an area where the temperature soars when your central might fail that you at least get one that will cool an area twice the size. I agree with the review about it being a chore to install but it's a lot easier than installing a window unit. What I didn't appreciate is that I had to cut off 4 ft. of my garden hose for a drain tube.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Not a good product I bought this unit less then a year ago. It was working fine then started making a loud noise. I pulled the hose off the back and pieces of the plastic squirrel cage fan started falling out. The fan disintegrated and ripped the fan cover right off.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Works well except.... The heating and cooling is great for my tall ceilings and large space and it works fast, but there are other inconveniences that make this product frustrating. It is not supposed to need any water emptied unless using the dehumidifier yet every time I use the heat mode, I have to drain the water every hour or so, which completely defeats the purpose of leaving it on while sleeping or away from the house. It also beeps LOUDLY when it fills so if I am sleeping, I can hear it from upstairs just reminding me that it is not going to work for the remainder of the night unless I get up and drain it. Draining the water is also difficult because of it's weight and size. the plug is at the very bottom and if you tilt it any other direction than straight back it will leak onto the floor. Also, the side sliding window I have is too tall by about 9in for what they provided to block and seal the window opening for the hose. Not helpful for any windows that are slightly not typical.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good Shop Unit I don't find this to be too loud. I listen to the radio while I work in the shop. This helps a LOT! You really need to vent the hot air elsewhere. The cool air is great, but there is a lot more hot air coming out the back. Criticism: The vent out of the unit is 5" which is really insulting since the industry standards are either 4" or 6". The idea of a 5" vent out of the back likely is the brain child of an accountant who should be fired. The delivered solution is barely adequate if you have a venting solution within 2 to 3 feet. If you need to vent the hot air further than that, then you will have to kluge something together, and I recommend an insulated kluge since there is a LOT of HOT AIR. I'm sending mine into the attic.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Works great, with a little help. Heats and Cools with less electricity then your standard window unit A/C or electric space heaters. Had to do a few alterations though as the built in tank holds only a few hours of water in heat mode and the a/c shuts off if the filters get plugged with animal hair (which I have a few of). So, I made a stand with a raised edge so it wouldn't roll off to set it on... then bought a plastic tube from the hardware to hook to the drain port, since it is very near the floor my little stand is doing double duty (hair and drain). I used some gorilla tape to keep the exhaust hose together (the cats tend to knock it apart). After these steps it works great in both a/c and heat modes! Yep, it's a bit loud. Not recommended for bedrooms unless you like white noise a lot.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Mighty Cool for the Money I have only had it for a few weeks so I can't speak to how long it lasts but so far, it seems to be good quality in its make. I have it in a basement venting out one window through a double length exhaust and it does cool things down very well, even when it is hot. Biggest problem in the basement is moisture and as long as it is on cool, it seems to vent it all out. If I put it on de-humidify only, however, it fill up the small tank pretty fast and shuts off. Not sure how it heats but for cooling (which is my main application) it does well for a portable and $400 is the cheapest price for this on the web.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Zone Cooling Pros: Overall great product. I have been zone heating my living room with an oil radiator for many years for comfort and savings. In order to keep my bedroom cooler than the rest of the house I decided to try zone cooling. Has been working great so far, the rest of the house is getting into the upper 70s with windows open, but my bedroom stays a cool 62. Not sure on the savings, but the comfort is great. Cons: The window vent assembly is pretty flexible, but to get it to fit my modern 2004 windows it took a bit of creativity and engineering using the enclosed kit. Also, while the unit vents most of the moisture through the vent, with spring rains and the accompanying humidity I am emptying a few table spoons of water per day.
