Answer:
Hi Tonia,
Portable A/C's need to vent the hot exhaust air to the outside.
Without the outside vent the a/c will not cool the room properly, if at all.

Answer:
Thank you for your question!
We recommended leaving at least 8 inches of clearance around the unit when installing. The exhaust hose is 5 feet long and the power cord is 6 feet long.
Here is a video demonstrating installation in a double hung window, but it can also be used in sliding windows as well.

Answer:
Thank you for your question!
You should not have to empty the upper drain. Only the lower drain plug should be removed. On very humid days, it may fill up faster than normal. You can attach a garden hose to the upper drain to avoid this situation. Your local home improvement store may sell a mesh screen you can attach to the hose that will act as a filter to catch any debris.

Rated 3.7 out of 5 by 75 reviewers.
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by One out of Three not Functional My rating is for one out of the three Haier A/C units. Two out of three were fine and are working well. One leaked immediately. There were two square holes in the bottom of the unit through which poured water onto the floor--see attached photos. Then I noticed that the power cord was not working properly. It had a short in it and I cannot get the unit to function at all. The other two units did not have these problems. I contacted Haier and sent them all of my information and pictures. It has been one week and I have not heard back from them. I am very disappointed. This unit was clearly defective before it was shipped. Their QC program should have caught it. July 30, 2016
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Great alternative if you have no option for a window unit. I bought new windows & they weren't strong enough to hold a 12,000 btu window unit. Nor did I want my new windows scratched. This unit works great for cooling a room or 2. It's not as good as my window unit, but it's great if you just want a cold room to escape to on a scorching day. I found it no louder than a window unit, if anything, it's slightly quieter. And since it wheels around, you don't need help installing it, which was a plus for me. The older I get, the harder it is to lift a 90lb ac in & out of a 2nd floor window. This solves that problem. I'd buy the most powerful one you can afford though since they're not nearly as efficient as a window unit. June 23, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Great unit for the money This unit works great for what we purchased it for. We needed to cool down the entire house a bit and central air was to expensive to do the job. This unit is designed to cool around 600sq ft. We are doing 1600sq ft. The unit will drop the temp to as low as 74deg depending on the outside air temp. Now it must be noted also that this is a full log home that is very open on the inside making air flow unrestricted. So by placing this unit on the second floor and turning on the four ceiling fans it does an exceptional job for the few days during the summer season that it is needed. The house is easy to cool and central air is not really needed to keep this house comfortable. This unit does a great job. Was very impressed with its ability . August 16, 2016
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by It doesn't work well at all I originally purchased the 12,000 BTU unit to replace a 12,000 BTU window unit, which easily cooled the entire first floor of my house on the hottest of days, but had to return it as it did not cool well at all, and exchanged it for this 14,000 BTU unit, which did not do any better. Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Leaked all over carpet I ordered this because my neighbor bought one. Hers leaked all over her carpet, twice! The instructions did not warn that you have to buy a small hose and bucket into which to drain the copius amounts of water that come out of the machine daily. It blew really nice cold air, however. I returned mine without opening it as I did not want the water feature in my living room. My issue is with the instructions not warning customers about the water. Also,Home Depot only gives you 30 days to evaluate/return this item. August 2, 2016
Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by Fair product, poor repairability This product does all it is supposed to very well, if you can get it to work. The first one I ordered (last year) was so damaged in shipping that I returned it for a refund to the store where I purchased it. The second one arrived in June via HD with a broken drip pan. Although the product has been in production for several years, there were no parts available, and so it could not be fixed under warrantee. Again, a refund. The third one arrived with a broken air outlet. This part is poorly designed and was broken in 2/3 of the machines I bought. Haier would not fix it because they claimed it was shipper damage, although the carton was not greatly damaged and the part Is contained within the a/c case, and so presumably not subject to damage in shipment. I taped wooden blocks at each end of the air outlet so that I could use the machine. Whether Haier stocks the part, I do not know. I can't imagine the machine will be fixable under the extended warrantee, when some parts already are unavailable. Haier is running a curious business, to say the least! August 16, 2016
Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by Hair Portable AC Previously had a 12000 btu window unit which more than adequately cooled the space. Bought this 14000 btu unit to replace the old unit when we got new windows. Figured that the up sizing would compensate for the inefficiencies of a portable unit. I was wrong. This unit cannot do the job of the old 12000 btu window unit. On hot days it barely cooled the space at all. Seems to only be able to do the work of an 8000 btu unit. August 23, 2016
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Keeping me cool I don't think the thermastat works right but I am keeping cool, that is all that matters August 10, 2016
