Why does HPN14XCM say 600 sqft and HPN14XHM say 500? They appear to have identical specs otherwise. Also, why is XCM rated 54 dBA and XHM rated 49?

This question is from 14,000 BTU 600 sq. ft. Cool Only Portable Air Conditioner, 110-Pints per Day Moisture Removal in Dehumidification Mode

These models appear to be identical in provided specs with the main difference being that one is cool only, and the other is heat and cool. Why is one rated for higher square footage and higher dBA, and the other rated for lower square footage and lower dBA? The only other thing different is 1.5 lbs in weight, which doesn't really matter.

Answer:
Thank you for your questions!
The HPN14XCM only cools the room. The HPN14XHM cools and heats the room. Due to this design, there is less BTU in this unit so it cools 100 square feet less. Also, the HPN14XCM has a louder dBA rating because the fan settings are different as this unit ONLY cools.
Hope this helps clarify. If you need additional information, please let us know.
Thank you,

Can you explain dual hose? Does water/condensation expel from exhaust hose out window (like a window a/c)? Or no water out window? (I can't have that)

This question is from 14,000 BTU 600 sq. ft. Cool Only Portable Air Conditioner, 110-Pints per Day Moisture Removal in Dehumidification Mode
September 26, 2016
I wanted to check to see if water will expel out of my window with this dual hose model. Am I correct in understanding that a single hose unit does not expel water out the window? I'm not able to have water dripping out the window, so help or advice would be much appreciated!

Answer:
Hi Tonia,
Portable A/C's need to vent the hot exhaust air to the outside.
Without the outside vent the a/c will not cool the room properly, if at all.

14,000 BTU 600 sq. ft. Cool Only Portable Air Conditioner, 110-Pints per Day Moisture Removal in Dehumidification Mode is rated 3.8 out of 5 by 77.
Rated 1 out of 5 by from One out of Three not Functional My rating is for one out of the three Haier A/C units. Two out of three were fine and are working well. One leaked immediately. There were two square holes in the bottom of the unit through which poured water onto the floor--see attached photos. Then I noticed that the power cord was not working properly. It had a short in it and I cannot get the unit to function at all. The other two units did not have these problems. I contacted Haier and sent them all of my information and pictures. It has been one week and I have not heard back from them. I am very disappointed. This unit was clearly defective before it was shipped. Their QC program should have caught it.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Leaked all over carpet I ordered this because my neighbor bought one. Hers leaked all over her carpet, twice! The instructions did not warn that you have to buy a small hose and bucket into which to drain the copius amounts of water that come out of the machine daily. It blew really nice cold air, however. I returned mine without opening it as I did not want the water feature in my living room. My issue is with the instructions not warning customers about the water. Also,Home Depot only gives you 30 days to evaluate/return this item.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great unit for the money This unit works great for what we purchased it for. We needed to cool down the entire house a bit and central air was to expensive to do the job. This unit is designed to cool around 600sq ft. We are doing 1600sq ft. The unit will drop the temp to as low as 74deg depending on the outside air temp. Now it must be noted also that this is a full log home that is very open on the inside making air flow unrestricted. So by placing this unit on the second floor and turning on the four ceiling fans it does an exceptional job for the few days during the summer season that it is needed. The house is easy to cool and central air is not really needed to keep this house comfortable. This unit does a great job. Was very impressed with its ability .

Rated 4 out of 5 by from So Far So Good We use this unit along with an older unit to keep our 1200 sq ft home cool during hot days. We do not get a bunch of really hot days in Oregon, but on those days when temps rise above 90, our two Haier's keep our house at a nice 78. The secret to these portable units is to not let your house heat up before turning on the A/C. Also, I installed a pipe insulation over the exhaust hose to keep the radiant heat from the room. If you have to mount the exhaust hoses vertically, another tip is to be certain the exhaust hose is above the intake hose (heat rises remember). Otherwise your intake is sucking back in the hot air you are exhausting. I dinged on quality as the tabs on the hose connectors used to hold the hose into the window panel could be better designed. Mine kept popping out every time I moved the hoses. Eventually I was able to get them clicked into place and they haven't come out since. The tabs are rather small and I wonder how durable they will be.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from the worst! totally disappointed I should have really believed all the negative reviews this product is terrible! cumbersome, flimsy installation, poor instructions, costly, does not cool/dehumidify adequately! this was expensive and a complete waste of money, my window units that were HUGE and hard to install worked so much better

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Purchase We are very happy with our portable A/C!! We did a lot of research before finally buying this product. Haier is definitely one of the best brands when it comes to air conditioners, especially portable ones.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from vents do not stay in window Bought this in July as our ac unit went out. Read the reviews but the pros out weighed the cons. Considering we had 20+ 100 degree days it kept it comfortable in the living room. With that being said, these last few weeks have been a disaster. The vents do not fit into the holes nor once you manage to get them in do they stay. Thank the Lord for duct tape!! That solution has been short lived, nothing like coming home from work or getting up in the morning only to find that the vents have fallen out, blowing hot air in the room and the window is open to whatever insect decides to come in. If this problem can be solved, I would have no problem recommending this product.
