Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Stormer cools down my garage
My home office is in the garage. Fortunately it's insulated. The one window I have is up high. I installed this portable unit (on a platform about 5 feet high) to cool down my office during the summer months and heat it during the winter months. This is a 14000 btu unit, but ti seems to me that is not enough btu to cool down a garage in a NC summer. It will certainly make a 90 degree day feel like a 77 degree day in the garage, but if your expecting 72 on a 90 degree day, I don't think that is going to happen. You may need a 28000 btu to do that. (full blown window unit) Either way, this unit works good for my needs and keeps the humidity at a comfortable level. Add in a few fans to circulate the air and it works good. Overall I am very happy with the unit. The unit does require it's own 15 amp circuit breaker. That might be kind of hard to do if you got anything else that takes up amps in a given room. Fortunately, I have mine on an isolated 20amp breaker and I run a heavy duty 10 gauge extension cord to it. (It says not to use an extension cord, but I think they are talking about the silly extension cords that are too small). It does have a timer to turn off. (like a tv sleep timer). It's supposed to have a timer to turn it back on, but for the life of me, I cannot figure that out. This unit would be awesome if it had a programmable timer and temp control feature. M-F after 7pm, increase temp to 78 etc. It's just an timer to turn on and off. No programmable temp feature. I do recommend if you order this and have it shipped, don't just plug it in the first day you get it. Let it sit "upright" for 24 hours to make sure all the coolant has settled from shipping. It might have been laying on it's side during shipping. It is quite heavy. (80 lbs+)

Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by AL Do Not purchase
The reason I rated this poor is because the machine leaks water. We even put a tubing in to drain it so it would not get on the floor. The water would not drain through the tubing.
Then we had to fill out our warranty to get someone to service it. The person came over in a timely manner but was unsuccessful. They did not even recommend anything. Just live with it.
I would not buy this product or anything from this vendor.

Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by TG53 Not a dehumidifier
The unit advertises itself as being able to remove 100 pints of water per day. I bought it to dehumidify a cool basement that tended to get mildewy in the summer. I did not buy a dehumidifier because I did not want to heat the basement with the heat from the compressor.
It did not appear to dehumidify the room. I checked and the humidity was ~80%. When I called Haier, they said, yes, it does not really dehumidify until the humidity was above 80%. It does cool the room really well - too well. We had to put coats on to be in the room because it dropped the temp to 60F when in dehumidify mode.
It is a really good A/C and you would probably be happy if that was the goal.

A/C is working great. Fairly easy installation. Very much enjoying the unit.

Works as advertised. Compressor cycling on and off is very unobtrusive. Fan noise moderately high.
Was very awkward to move upstairs to second floor since unit is very bulky and indentations on sides for gripping are much too small, low, and far back.

Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by supaponzu Cools well, but noise could be a factor for some.
We have this in a playroom/TV room as a temporary measure since the room's dedicated HVAC died. It does cool the room nicely (haven't tried heat yet), but it is somewhat loud while watching television. For our family, this hasn't been much of an issue, as we just switch it off during those times. The noise isn't bad overall, and definitely not loud enough to be an issue throughout the rest of the day. But it is a consideration if you're thinking of putting this unit in a similar setup.

Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Nicole Would recommend, but you should know...
Just installed it last night.
The assembly instructions are *horrible* as is the whole window vent setup itself.
I ended up using duct tape to hold the extensions in place & since the windows in my rental house are metal frames, had to duct tape it in place too.
Otherwise, I am very pleased with this a/c unit so far.
I allowed it to sit for the recommended 24 hours (which wasn't easy given how hot it was in the house!) and it cooled the entire studio style house by 5 degrees within an hour and reached the desired temp by morning (fell asleep, so not sure how long it actually took).
Don't know why some reviewers say it's loud.
It's *much* quieter than the industrial fan I was using prior to buying this.
Got the best night's sleep I've had in a week or more & the furkids are thrilled with it as well.
Hoping it continues to perform this well!

My bedroom was around 90 degrees one day (which is a lot in a closed stuffy area at least for me), I got this AC unit to cool my bedroom and it easily does. It got it down to the requested temperature of 72 degrees right away. I love the controller and the variety of modes and options it offers. I have not tried the heat yet, since I have not had to use it but look forward to trying it in the cold winters. It appears to be quite durable. It's very easy to set up, even for a beginner, just read the manual and instructions and you're good to go. It's a little bit noisy, but not enough to bug me really at all to be honest and for the size and power of this one, it's definitely not as noisy as it could be. Mine came with a small scratch on it, but that was because the UPS people were rough on the box. I recommend picking up at store if you can if you want to avoid that, but the scratch doesn't bother me either in the end.
