Answer: 
Part of the air conditioning process is removing heat and humidity from a room. Operating the unit without an exhaust vent will not allow heat and humidity to be removed from the room. The unit will not function properly without an exhaust vent. Additionally the unit must be vented outdoors, not into an attic or other indoor space.

In cooling mode, this portable air conditioner should not require water to be removed. The unit has a unique design which continuously evaporates the water. In heating mode, or when the unit is operated in high humidity conditions, you may need to empty the water tank periodically. The unit will shut down automatically when the water tank is full.

In cooling mode, this portable air conditioner should not require water to be removed. The unit has a unique design which continuously evaporates the water. In heating mode, or when the unit is operated in high humidity conditions, you may need to empty the water tank periodically. The unit will shut down automatically when the water tank is full.
To empty the water tank, place a shallow pan below the lower drain located on the back of the unit, remove the plug, and drain the water tank. Re-insert the drain plug when done. You can then re-start the portable AC.
