Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Works great with old swamp cooler Our house is long and narrow, and has a roof-mounted swamp cooler at one end. So of course that part of the house is nice and cool, but the other half is roasting. We just got the Haier 8000 BTU unit and placed it at the far end of the "hot zone" and the combination of both coolers running on low is keeping the whole house at about 75 degrees, and it's over 100 outside. It’s a simple and economical solution to a poorly designed setup when the house was built. One installation tip: the window I used to vent the hose is very skinny (about 15”) so I had to trim the mounting panel with a jigsaw. If you use a fine blade and go very slowly you’ll get a nice clean cut. Aside from that, installation took about 10 minutes and operation with the remote is a snap. July 1, 2013
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Simple assembly, sleeping in the heat just got easier! The unit assembled in minutes, and with modified window adapters cut out of cardboard (we have weird windows, hinged at the bottom, pulling out from the top), the included window adapter made it a more-than-decent fit. The instructions are clear and straight-forward, as to the various modes, speeds and timers, and to be as small as the unit is, it delivers a powerful volume of air. It couldn't have been nicer, unless the remote had been RF instead of IR, and the 8K BTU had been able to blow as powerfully around corners into our den (we found using a couple of small fans and cracking a window open in the den helped pull it through better). Still in "testing" phase (we're running it "full bore" for the first few days, to ensure no warranty worries), it is doing what we were led to believe it would, for the investment made. A very good value for those in rental situations where a window unit is either impossible (like as with us), or undesirable and/or difficult. April 10, 2012
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Pretty quiet I have tried two other models, but they are both too noisy for my 200 square foot room. So I ordered this one online. It still makes some noise, but quite quieter, and I am getting used to it. Just wish the exhaust hose was longer so I can better position the machine. September 24, 2014
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by great a/c units, easy to install + work wonderfully! i work in an old building which retains heat and has no central heating/air. estimates to put one in place came to $14k! instead, i got 4 of these to put into each room (each about 150 sq ft) and my technicians couldn't be happier. they were extremely easy to install (after you got the hang of the first one) and seems to have the potential to hold up well. price at home depot.com was also about $40 cheaper than target, where i got my first unit. Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Exactly what I was looking for... Once I finally got it installed - the piece for the window is a bit cumbersome - it worked great. My sons' room (according to the new unit) started out at 84 degrees and within 1/2 hour was down to 75. He had been using multiple fans in the room to try to cool it but it was no use. The unit makes less noise than the fans he was using before. I love the fact that there is no need to empty a water pan - we clean the filter every week and have had no problems. July 30, 2013
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Efficient and Quiet I bought two of these air conditioners two years ago for my Mum's semi-detached, 4 bedroom, 3 floor house that has no central A/C. I can say that they have been working perfectly for the last two years. They are quiet and can cool a large bedroom within 30 minutes. We put one in the dining room/living room and it cools both rooms very well. We set up a fan to send air from the dining room to the kitchen. We put one upstairs in a small room between two large rooms and, with another hallway fan, can cool the upstairs hallway quite nicely and even into the bedrooms. I recommend this product but, like all electronics, there may be duds on the assembly line. If you are having problems then just send it back and get a replacement becuase they have been working very well. May 27, 2014
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Meets Goals Goal was to cool down my west-facing bedroom for more comfortable sleep. Does the job. The noise of the machine may bother some, but not me. The blue light on the front of the console can easily be covered up with a piece of masking tape or material. So far, my electric bill is much lower than using the apartment-provided wall unit. Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by You get what you pay for The unit is a little on the noisy side, it blows plenty of cold air. However I don't see how this could keep 200 sq feet cool. it barely kept my 112 sq foot trailer cool. For the money it's a good deal, if you want a better product pay the extra bucks. May 19, 2015
