The window plate with the opening for air exhaust is 19 ¾ “by 4 ¾ “, this cannot be modified. Also included with the unit is a solid extension plate that is also 19 ¾ “by 4 ¾” which can be trimmed. The plates can be combined to cover an opening 39 1/2 inches by 4 3/4 inches. These plates can be installed horizontally or vertically. Compare these dimensions to the window opening where you are planning on using the air conditioner. Additional Solid Extension Plates can be combined to extend to fill the window gap. Haier Portable air conditioners can be used with Casement windows. When installing the window exhaust vent kit be sure that there is no air leak which would allow hot air back into the room. Answer:
No. The exhaust hose connects to an adjustable flange which can not only be adjusted to the appropriate size, but it can be used with a window that opens either vertically or horizontally.

Answer:
The exhaust fitting is like a dryer hose fitting and has to be vented outside.

CUSTOMER REVIEWS

Rated 3.7 out of 5 by 162 reviewers.
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Great for a small space. Easy to setup and install. I needed this for a 200 sq ft. office on the central California coast that has southern exposure with 2/3 of the southern wall being windows. I didn't want to have to keep the blinds closed and block the view just to keep the office from becoming a greenhouse. This unit fits right under my desk and is was easy to connect exhaust through the window. It is able to compete with full-sun and keep the temp at a reasonable 68 degrees (or lower if I want it). For all the environmental extremists - yes, I could just close the blinds and save the electricity, but I already have reduced to showering once a week for water conservation. At least I can now retain my view. May 3, 2016
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Very good unit I've had the unit for only a month and really like it. It is quite quiet compared to other units. It cools the room about 10-12 degrees lower than outside temperature. I have only run it on the cold setting so I haven't had to drain the pan, which is great compared to evaporative units. The only thing I would like is the out-draft air shoot only shoots air directly out of the unit; there is no way to move the inside levers which would aim the air in different directions. For example, during the day I want the unit aimed at my desk and at night I want it aimed at my bed, but the power cord isn't long enough to do this and the inside air levers don't adjust. So I have to run it with my overhead fan going to move the air around the room. I believe my room is over 250 ft, but it is keeping it cool enough in 92 degree weather that I can at least sleep comfortably. May 15, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by great product Easy to put hose out the window. Some space that needed more plugging in window. But A/C works very good for the room it is in. May 11, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by WORKS GREAT FOR A SMALL ROOM AT THIS PRICE POINT I read a lot of the reviews on this Haier 8,000 portable air conditioner before purchase. Most of the negatives come from those in need of a class in "portable air conditioning 101". Use it within the square footage guidelines it is intended for. Don't say it's junk because it won't cool down 450 square feet. Also, don't wait until the room temp is 80 or 90 degrees and turn it on and expect this, or any air conditioner of this size, to cool the room down in short order. Air conditioners work best if you turn it on when the room temp is at or near your desired comfort temp. Air conditioners "maintain" the room temp far better than bringing the room temp down from 80 or 90 to 72 or 74. We have vinyl windows, so the window install kit is a bit fiddly for these types of windows. But, with some perseverance and ingenuity, it installed snuggly without having to drill holes into the windows. Most units at this price point won't have an "auto" feature which basically will turn the unit on or off automatically at the preset desired temp. However, this Haier does have a timer mode. For example: let's say you leave for work at 7 A.M. and you know your room will begin to heat up at 10 A.M. Turn your unit on, set it on air condition mode, set the fan speed and temp you want. Turn it off. Then press the timer button and the display will show "00". Push the "up" arrow to 3 (hours) and go to work. At 10 A.M. your unit will turn on, the unit will start and cycle between fan and air condition as the room temp begins to rise. You should come home to a comfortable room. Another feature is that this Haier has 3, not 2, fan speeds. This model sits low and the control panel is on the front rather than the top. This is nice because we can put a vase or something on top and not worry about damaging the panel. Plus, it's easier to see when sitting down. It also has a place on top to store the remote. The slide out filter on the side is a great convenience too. As for the water build up some complain about, this Haier will evaporate the water without emptying the tank "provided" your room is not high humidity. Ours works great and keeps our 250 square foot room very comfortable on low to medium fan speed. No portable air conditioner is going to be quiet as the compressor is inside the room rather than outside like window units. But this Haier isn't that loud, and can watch TV without blowing out the speakers. Can't rate the durability yet, but it comes with a standard 1 year warranty and they say they will add another 90 days if you register it on line. I think, for the money, this is a good unit with above par features. May 13, 2016
Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by Not enough BTU for size it recommends The installation was easy and done correctly. I completely sealed off the entire room. It can barely keep it below the temp outside. I am using this in an actual 125 sq ft area. No way it can cool over 100 sq ft in higher temps in the southern USA. April 26, 2016
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by nice little AC It is good to have. I just have it around 2 months. So far, I am happy with it. I need see what is coming in the future. April 26, 2016
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Might Have Been Better Off With a Fan We may have given this a tall order, as our bedroom is located over the apartment's HVAC room, and is always 80 degrees plus in the winter. Our landlord forbade us from installing a window unit ourselves (they have a contractor who comes twice a year to do it). So, this seemed like a compromise of their rules and our need to sleep for the intervening months. On a couple of nights, temperatures outside were about the same as inside, so we tried this AC unit. It could not handle our bedroom. The room fits within the specs for an 8000 BTU unit, but over the course of an 8-hour night, maximum settings (High fan, lowest temperature settings, and a fan spreading the air), the temperature never went to the programmed 62 degrees, but hovered around 75. We may have had better luck leaving the windows open and using just the fan. We will be returning this one, and trying to fight the landlord into letting us install the window unit, which actually worked. April 3, 2016
