Answer:
Thank you for your inquiry. No, this cannot sit atop a shower drain and function correctly. It's intended for use on bathtub drains, where the center of the basket can fit down into the drain slightly. You may find our Hair Catcher for Shower Drains (http://www.homedepot.com/p/DANCO-Hair-Catcher-for-Shower-Drain-in-Chrome-10529/203317826) better suits your needs.

Since I only used this for bathtub and have separate strainer for sink, I tried it to be able to answer your question. It was awkward. Better to use for Tub - plus looks nicer. Hope this helps.

Answer:
so the plug can come all the way out, easily?
if it doesn't then you will have to determine if you want the plug more often than the hair catcher, uk? i bought this haircatcher and the part that goes in the hole is really small, so. i am saying a safe but - so long as that plug will come out when you want to catch some hair.
you will be astonished by this product, i am. s;

Rated 4.3 out of 5 by 32 reviewers.
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Tub/Shower Strainer It's ok. Not as sturdy as the brand we had before. September 21, 2016
Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by Very thin and flexible material , don't recomended to be used on tubs with very large hole drainer The material is too thin and flexible, so when the hair catcher is in the hole of the tub just by gravity it leaves a little gap between the tub and the catcher, so a lot of small hair will go true. I year a go I bought the same product but the material was thick so my old product works excellent, but this new one I feel that is NOT doing the right work. October 20, 2015
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Works great and reasonably priced. Exactly what I wanted.. Does the job it is designed for. May 17, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by a transforming product thank you home depot and DANCO for creating a product marketing and selling a product that does exactly what i need it to do. i mean both of us have long hair and live in apartments and this product is amazing on so many levels. the unit "raises" the drain so essentially like a helpful hand down there filtering the water without slowing the draining process. cleaning is really easy and like cleaning out a brush. i am blown away by the real value and enhancement in my life from the home depot and danco. it is such a relief to finally experience what the morphing of hardware stores can become. a perfect "10!" s; May 25, 2015
Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by It's okay Measure your drain, mine sits above drain and hair can go underneath. I expected beings it is plastic that it would conform to the drain size December 8, 2015
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Great Strainer Still works, bought over a year to two years ago. Does a good job of catching the hair. November 29, 2015
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by A product of its word - does what it says. This product is as described. Any product that does what it says is a great product. It catches good too. Not only do I really like this product - so does my 1 y.o. cat - Crazy Whyte. She loves taking it out the drain, I guess she'd double checking that it's clean. I've recommended it to family & friends. August 4, 2015
Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by DANCOHair Catcher Bathroom Tub Strainer User Does not lay flat on the bathtub floor and it is easily moved with feet or strong water flow. Cleaning the hair is difficult because the material that is made of is very soft. July 21, 2015
