How to change the lightbulb?

I bought a house with these installed in the living room. One of the bulbs has gone out and I, for the life of me, can not remove the dead bulb. There isn't enough room between the eyeball and bulb to get a grip and the unit just won't budge from the casing. Anyone have any tips? What am I doing wrong?

Answer:
The duct tape trick worked! As a final act of desperation I made a duct tape handle attached to the face of the bulb and twisted counter clockwise. It worked. I did not have to remove the fixture from the ceiling (which I also did).
I could not find a picture or illustration anywhere on the internet. The bulb IS a screw bulb (not posts).

Answer:
Was able to change the bulb. Somehow the trim was locked into the casing beyond the tension clips. Took my full body weight to pull it out (literally hanging from the trim to jar it loose).

Answer:
Dear valued consumer, the adjustable eyeball trim is not wet location listed. We do have numerous wet location listed trim on homedepot.com. Most adjustable trims are not wet location rated because of the rotational head.

Customer Reviews

Rated 3.3 out of 5 by 7 reviewers.
Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by Trims 2 of the trims needed repair right out of the box. The lamps required ( that fit ) are so small they are worthless October 23, 2015
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Needs special bulbs Should have a reminder to purchase the special light bulbs required. Took them 100 miles into the mountains, installed them in our cabin then found they required special bulbs! May 12, 2015
Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by Wears out quickly Was initially very happy with the look and ease of installation. The eyeball adjusts easily to point where you need the light, and gives great extra light for counter areas, etc. Used halogen 60 watt bulbs, and had to replace the bulbs about 2x per year. Unfortunately, after 4 years the white coating is discolored and peeling, and the light bulb housing is crumbling. For the price I paid (plus the cost of the housing) I expected it to last longer than 4 or 5 years, so gave it a low value rating. And while it looked good when first installed, it sure doesn't look good now. We only used the lights for a few hours a day, during meal prep, so it's not like it was on constantly. Shopping today to replace these! January 2, 2012
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Didn't last but Halo replaced them w/ improved version I bought three of these to light a closet. After about a year and a half the phenolic resin lamp holder started to fall apart on one of them and the light would sometimes not come on. I bought a new one and realized that the new lamp holder was made out of ceramic which is a material that can withstand a lot more heat. When I looked at the other ones they were showing signs of heat stress as well and didn't look like they would last much longer. Needles to say I was not happy so I sent an email to Halo at the address on the container and told them of my problem and that I would like them to replace the sockets for the lights with the ceramic versions. The said that they didn't have repair parts for them but they would send me whole new ones at no charge. The new ones that arrived had ceramic lamp holders as well. I replaced all three and have not had any problems since. I would not recommend the trim piece unless it has the ceramic lampholder. March 12, 2014
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Doesn't work with Philips hue I had to modify to use with Philips HUE, a little ingenuity and some tool solved the problem! July 30, 2013
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Product does what it is supposed to do. The wires were shot on the old trim. This was as simple as trim the wires , connect , and fit into place. What we used to call a bolt in swap. August 21, 2013
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Paint finish yellows in sunny room The units I installed in our rooms with average amount of sun are completely yellow after a few years. Really stand out on a white ceiling. Those installed in the basement are satisfactory. October 1, 2012
