Can you use any LED light that will fit the 5" opening or are you restricted to the HALO LED package? Or should I go with the standard HALO 5" recessed housing vs the LED version?

Answer:
The Halo is recommended as stated on the recessed can packaging, but any LED retrofit trim with the orange T24 B connector type will work.

I have these installed and I can confirm the Philips 5/6 retrofit LED lights DO NOT have the same LED connections.

Answer:
Dear valued consumer, this housing is not specific to HALO retrofits, but must be an LED retrofit that fits a 5" housing. Most competitor products do not fit a 5 in housing, unlike the HALO RL56 LED retrofit series which can retrofit into a 5" or 6" can. If you choose to go with another brand, it must have an LED connector to work with the LED housing. See the instruction sheet for RL56 product line on Read More

Using the LED housing and LED retrofit fixture will provide the highest possible efficiency for your home. Also, all of our retrofits and most competitive models will operate just as well in the standard 5" housings. An edison base adapter is provided in all Halo models to satisfy this install. Read Less

Answer:
You will need a 6 inch retrofit housing. The 5 inch is too small. Also, check the depth and see if you will also need a shallow can which is also available.

Answer:
Dear valued consumer, The ceiling opening diameter should be 5.5”. However, if your opening is 6”, the lip around the bottom of the remodel housing might (?) make up the difference (it’s probably a half inch). It would be real close. There has to be some pressure at the bottom lip to allow the clips to engage securely. The New construction model would work, since it has a plaster frame that would rest on Read More

Answer:
Dear valued consumer, the H550RICAT is a non-screw-base connection that preserves the high efficacy rating and prevents use of low efficacy incandescent sources. It must be used in conjunction with an LED recessed retrofit fixture, ie Halo RL56, RA56 and SLD56 models. The H572RICAT can be used with basic trims and incandescent lamps or be used with LED 56 series LED retrofits.

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Looks great Easy to install. Just the right amount of light for the kitchen. Using 2700 65w leds, July 7, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Great buy! Works great! Pretty easy to install. The NM slots are a little tight. Had to spread the opening in order to get 14-2 wire through. The ceiling clips had to be stretched out in order to clip can into ceiling and be able to lock the clips. Other then that, the cans are doing their job and we are pretty exited to have more lighting. August 9, 2016
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Remodel, product simple to install new LED lamps Makes remodel to LED simpler and installation is easy when old housing. May 10, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by LED is the way to go. The clips seem to be the hot topic. Piece of cake to install if you know a couple of tricks. Use a screw driver with a rubber hammer, and GENTLY tap them into place, making sure your geometry is correct. I installed 11 can lights without a single issue, other than running up against a ceiling joist. With the 900 lumen 3,000K 90 CRI Halo LED's and Maestro dimmers they ROCK! December 3, 2014
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Simple install The clips are tight, I found the easy fix was take them out, bend them a little and try again. They were too tight to hammer like one of the previous reviews stated. I assume it just depends on the thickness of texture. February 8, 2015
Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by Terrible design! These were the hardest things to install! Not the wiring but the clips. I wish I read the other reviews before purchasing . Getting the clips to clip into place was awful and dang near impossible. Took two of us (one above and one below) with a lot of struggling. Unless you are installing with 1/4 Sheetrock, look for another set. August 28, 2014
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Good Product Had no problems installing these. Went in real easy. November 8, 2014
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Please save your money Clips to hold would not lock into place. Abosultly a terrible design. Three of us tried to work the clips and they would not go. Please save your money and do not get these!!! September 25, 2013
