Answer:
Yes, as long as it's physically no larger than on ordinary bulb. And if you want to use a dimmer, make sure you select a dimmable bulb.

Answer:
Dear valued consumer, you can use an LED light bulb. Make sure that the bulb is rated for use in an enclosed housing. For best performance, we would highly recommend using an LED recessed retrofit fixture, such as the Halo RL56 series. The retrofits are made specifically for a recessed application.

Answer:
It would depend on the distant between the drop ceiling tiles to the floor joists. This housing mounts to the bottom of the floor joists. The trim kit then connects to the fixture. You may be better off using a housing made for old construction.

Yes, it meets title 24 if the can has the quick connect for the led trim only. No screw in lights bulbs are allowed anymore in new construction to meet current codes.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Well constructed recessed lighting fixture. The Halo product line of fixtures have always met a high standard of construction.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Dont forget the trim... This product requires a special trim kit from HALO that combines the trim plus an extension to hold the light bulb socket. The socket clicks into the trim kit. I was going to order the 5001SN kit but prefer the less expensive 5000SN kit. Be sure to price out the trim kits so there are no surprises later with costs of trim kits. Home Depot had the cheapest cost for the trim kits. The recessed housing itself was easy to install.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Easy to install lighting The recessed lighting is exceptionally easy to install both in terms of hardware and in terms of electric work. The cost is low for the recessed lighting itself and is a well built product. I started installing these 2 years ago in one portion of my basement and liked that enough that I have since installed them in 2 other areas of my basement. They provide excellent lighting, look good, and are dependable. My only complaint is that make sure you know the full cost of the entire product because this is only half of the purchase. At a future point, you will need to purchase another part that is much more expensive.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Good, but... Like another reviewer, I assumed a 5" hole would be required. Definitely needs a 5 1/2" hole. I guess it's my fault myself for not holding the hole saw up against the housing to verify the sizes matched. Oh well, pretty easy fix for me - only putting in two of these. Still, would be nice if the template said 5 1/2" instead of 5" as it currently does in big, bold letters. Very easy to shorten the braces due to the scored lines every inch or so.
