Can these be used in a basement with 2x8 joists. This will leave only a 1/2" clearance from top of light to sub-floor above.

Thanks,

Mark

Answer:
Yes, as long as it's physically no larger than on ordinary bulb. And if you want to use a dimmer, make sure you select a dimmable bulb.

Answer:
Dear valued consumer, you can use an LED light bulb. Make sure that the bulb is rated for use in an enclosed housing. For best performance, we would highly recommend using an LED recessed retrofit fixture, such as the Halo RL56 series. The retrofits are made specifically for a recessed application.

Rated 4.4 out of 5 by 20 reviewers.
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Easy They were great to workwith lovethe new connectors. July 5, 2016
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Easy to install lighting The recessed lighting is exceptionally easy to install both in terms of hardware and in terms of electric work. The cost is low for the recessed lighting itself and is a well built product. I started installing these 2 years ago in one portion of my basement and liked that enough that I have since installed them in 2 other areas of my basement. They provide excellent lighting, look good, and are dependable. My only complaint is that make sure you know the full cost of the entire product because this is only half of the purchase. At a future point, you will need to purchase another part that is much more expensive. April 26, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Good, but... Like another reviewer, I assumed a 5" hole would be required. Definitely needs a 5 1/2" hole. I guess it's my fault myself for not holding the hole saw up against the housing to verify the sizes matched. Oh well, pretty easy fix for me - only putting in two of these. Still, would be nice if the template said 5 1/2" instead of 5" as it currently does in big, bold letters. Very easy to shorten the braces due to the scored lines every inch or so. February 22, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Very Good Product Very nice housing that has plenty of space for your wires. February 11, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Nice design, easy to install The housing is well built with a lot of features to make it easy to install. It can be nailed into joists or snaps on to drop ceiling grids. And the wiring is great. There are push-in fittings to make wiring a breeze, and the wiring can be done outside the box. Special grommets allow you to put the wire thru the grommets after making the connections. Make sure you take advantage of these time saving features. October 28, 2015
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by 5" New Construction Can Light The only new construction can light that we use. Have installed 1000's over past 11 years. June 2, 2015
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Lighting Easy to install. Good quality. Not much to say other than it fulfills its purpose March 13, 2015
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Excellent fixture Very easy to install. Easy to line up accurately and great quality and value. The connections are plug in and simple. February 11, 2015
