I was worried initially about the light looking too cold once it was installed because it blends into the ceiling so well. It has a bright white appearance but with the right amount of warm yellow tones. It looks nothing like a fluorescent light and does not put off the heat an incandescent bulb puts off. I bought 21 of these for my house. I bought them because they are a surface mount (kinda tricky to snap in place) but best of all they work in a standard Junction Box. You do not need any special housings like other recessed lighting. They do stand proud at the most 1/2 inch of the ceiling, but they look good. They are also supposed to last 20 years or so. Don't buy these on Amazon unless you want to spend $5-$10 more per light!

Interesting installation replacing some really ugly outdoor bulky light fixtures: On the underside of a 4 foot wide balcony. I had 3 1/2" wide by 1 1/2" deep metal junction boxes encased in concrete which would have been very difficult to remove. This sized box was not on the recommend sizes per Halo specs. The 14/2 wiring was routed through 3/4" rigid metal pipe encased through the floor of the balcony to the interior living space. It was a difficult install as I had to drill mounting holes using a concrete drill bit and then used plastic anchors and 1" sheet metal screws for mounting with the additional holes on the bracket. Since the junction box was only 1 1/2" inches deep, I had to position the wire nuts (I added one wire for grounding the metal box and bracket) on upper backside of the mounting bracket where the LED driver is positioned. It was a snug fit alright. It looks great! Though, I would recommend a 4" box for an easier install, but if you are stuck with 3 1/2" box it will work.

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by KMG2323 Amazing use of junction box
We had a recommendation to use these instead of creating holes for new can lights This uses that space that may need a cover plate and makes it a light.
Are they easy to install? After you get the hang of it. Yes. The video shows an install on a new house. Mine is from 1966. It takes a bit of a tweak from the tabs on the mounting housing, but don't get frustrated like I did at first.
I have now installed 12 of these. Only had to install 2 cans and the rest were existing junction boxes.
Being they will last longer than our mortgage it is well worth the price. Oh did I say most of the installs were on existing junction boxes.

Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by HomeDepotJefe Great Lights... BUT
I bought a few of these to try out.... So far I REALLY like them, BUT. I had trouble getting the box on the light into the box in the ceiling.... I have a 50 yr old house with 4" J-boxes and round trim rings. The bracket doesn't fit into the trim ring so I had to demo the plaster and am still trying to find an appropriate ring. I temporarily installed it and am very pleased with the color and light it puts out. There is a short flicker each time the light is turned on or off and that I am getting used too. I am hoping to find a mud ring that will work with this light so I can buy more of them.
Has anyone had the same issue and how did you resolve it....???

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by FireWife So much better!
Replaced our florescent can lights with these. They fit over the existing can and the light is so much better. No more waiting for the lights to "warm up". They look much more attractive as well.

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by doulos Bright white light
purchased for installation in shower ceiling (new home contractor overlooked it). Install is a snap. It is safe in wet locations, tested safe for installation near attic insulation, it is bright, and provides a smooth clean look. Only had it for a week, only time will reveal the quality of the LED

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by DanTX Very convenient retrofit for creating a down light
Used to update a house built in the late 70's, they provide a nice streamlined look.
Being able to surface mount them to a J box is a great idea, I just wish they came
in soft white, 2700k color temperature. I also believe they are 2-3X overpriced.
