Answer:
Dear valued consumer, this housing can be used with both traditional and LED lamps. If using LED, we would recommend using a Halo LED retrofit as it is specifically designed for use in a recessed housing where most LED lamps are not.

Dear valued consumer, for Type IC housings, you don’t need clearance between the top of the housing and ceiling material. However, for Type non-IC housings, you do need at least a ½ inch of clearance above the housing and ceiling material.

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Can Lights Shallow Housing Does The Job We originally had bought can light housing that didn't fit in our basement ceiling space; then we found these shallow can housing units and they work perfectly. August 2, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Great price, easy to install. This recessed light was easy to install, fit well in a very tight place, and the price was excellent. I would recommend this light. June 16, 2015
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by recess cans and trims installed in ceiling in den. Installed six evenly. They look great brightened up the area. As a professional MASTER ELECTRICIAN. Its just great. September 22, 2015
Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by can lights The only bad thing was the rafters span was 24inch...lights didn't span that much... September 22, 2015
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by These things are the easiest to install! The Halo Canned light fixtures are easy to install and to wire. Well worth the money. Actually, they are a decent prices as well. June 9, 2015
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Nice product Installation went smoothly. Every thing fit nicely together . The finished product looks very nice February 26, 2015
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Can reveiw The can itself is too flimsy and the nails do not always stay in place to secute the brackets. You nee extra screws to help hold the arms in place. Also the set screw to keep the can itself from moving on the arms is not the best, you have to realy tighten it down ( bending the plate) for it to even start to grab before it works. September 23, 2014
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Owner/operator of small salon/spa These lights give off great light and without too much heat. Since they are in a salon/spa, the heat issue needed to be low. The light they give off is great for my customers. July 30, 2014
