Just received the light via UPS. Step two says "Remove socket from socket plate." WHAT SOCKET??? There is a bare wire (actually, black, white and Gnd). I removed an old ceiling light/fan. Do I need to buy a mounting kit as well?

Answer:
Dear valued consumer, do you currently have an existing recessed housing in place? IF yes, it is as easy as replacing your current trim with this eyeball trim. If a recessed housing is not currently in place, one would need to be installed before you can install this trim to the housings.

6 in. White Recessed Lighting Eyeball Trim is rated 4.2 out of 5 by 38.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from A choice Works for the kitchen plan. Technically is 360 degrees, where 180 happens until you spin or twist the shade slightly to get the other half of angle/s. It's spot-like unless you use a few in a row about 2-3ft apart ... then pow! Really bright lights ... need to use the right dimmer to get right mood.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Run away from this product! The springs failed to stay connected to the trim ring. This happened on four different units. I returned them and purchased the Commercial Electric brand of the same item. The CE units were terrific and easy to install.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Didn't last but Halo replaced them w/ improved version I bought three of these to light a closet. After about a year and a half the phenolic resin lamp holder started to fall apart on one of them and the light would sometimes not come on. I bought a new one and realized that the new lamp holder was made out of ceramic which is a material that can withstand a lot more heat. When I looked at the other ones they were showing signs of heat stress as well and didn't look like they would last much longer. Needles to say I was not happy so I sent an email to Halo at the address on the container and told them of my problem and that I would like them to replace the sockets for the lights with the ceramic versions. The said that they didn't have repair parts for them but they would send me whole new ones at no charge. The new ones that arrived had ceramic lamp holders as well. I replaced all three and have not had any problems since. I would not recommend the trim piece unless it has the ceramic lampholder.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Wears out quickly Was initially very happy with the look and ease of installation. The eyeball adjusts easily to point where you need the light, and gives great extra light for counter areas, etc. Used halogen 60 watt bulbs, and had to replace the bulbs about 2x per year. Unfortunately, after 4 years the white coating is discolored and peeling, and the light bulb housing is crumbling. For the price I paid (plus the cost of the housing) I expected it to last longer than 4 or 5 years, so gave it a low value rating. And while it looked good when first installed, it sure doesn't look good now. We only used the lights for a few hours a day, during meal prep, so it's not like it was on constantly. Shopping today to replace these!
