Questions & Answers

Will this housing work with a BR40 size LED bulb?

Will this housing work with a BR40 size LED bulb?
Asked by: Jeff
The Halo H47ICAT slope ceiling housing can accept a Par38 size lamp when used with the Halo 498W baffle trim. A BR40 lamp would be too large. Note- LED lamps must be rated for use in recessed fixtures, prior to use.

Would use of LED bulb type with less heat produced allow unit to be used with spray foam insulation?

Assume Par 38 bulb with heat produced prohibits unit to be used with spray foam insulation. Would use of LED bulb type with less heat produced allow unit to be used with spray foam insulation?
Asked by: Ken
What you are proposing would most likely function without premature failure due to heat buildup BUT what happens if you sell the house and the new owner sees that the fixture is designed to accept say a 65 Watt PAR 38 lamp (your LED equivalent draws 10 watts) and incandescent lamps are significantly cheaper so the new owner replaces the failed LED with new incandescent lamps. What happens is that there is an over-temperature limit disconnect built into the fixture that will disconnect power from the lamp! Then you have no light!

Would using an insulated attic Light Cap allow for use with foam insulation?

Would using an insulated attic Light Cap allow for use with foam insulation?
Asked by: CH
You can use an attic light cap, but this is an IC (insulation contact) rated housing...which means you can install the insulation around it very closely.

I need a recessed fixture (16 actually) for use with a 6/12 sloped ceiling and foam insulation. If H47ICAT won't work, what do you recommend?

Asked by: Palo
The H47ICAT is rated for 2/12 to 6/12 ceilings. However, it cannot be used in direct contact with spray foam insulation.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great value for DIYer I ordered four light assemblies. Items shipped in one original Halo box. Units were slightly damaged but easily repairable/straightened. Based on how these were shipped, no surprises regarding condition. Quite easy to install for those with basic mechanical skillsets. No glaring issues. Recommended and would buy again. (Based on several recessed light projects in my house, I highly recommend this type of lighting upgrade.Done right, the lighting improvement is astounding.)

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Outstanding product... I ordered several of the HALO sloped ceiling fixtures and settled on the H47ICAT as the best of the bunch. Excellent quality, well made and airtite. 1 is installed and I'm ordering 5 more with the 498W trim to complete the project. All the stuff arrived several days sooner than I expected. Free shipping to boot! How can you beat that? Don't believe the poor quality reviews.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from broken item The long metal ends to attach to the studs where sent damaged or they were damaged during shipment. The housing is very large and wide so you will need to make sure you have space and depth in your ceiling to install it. It was a tight fit and had to force the thing to fit without breaking it.
