The clips on my 5inch halo recess light fixture will not hold on the ceiling what can i do to make them work

Asked by: Buster1
Once the clips have been rotated into position, they then needs to be shifted up towards the top of the fixture (about 3/8") in order to lock them into place. This can be done with a flat bladed screw driver, pushing the clip outward and upward. The clip should easily slide up into the locked position.

What are the available tims withthis housing I woul dlike white fish eye would like link to the document showing available trims
Asked by: Frank
There are 2 fish eye trim rings you can use the only difference is the size of the bulbs that will fit. A smaller bulb Par 50 fits in the Halo 5071P and the larger regular size bulb fits the Halo 5070P. Just search for the Halo 5071P or Halo 5070P and you should find them.

H5 5 in. Aluminum Recessed Lighting Housing for Remodel Ceiling, Insulation Contact, Air-Tite is rated 3.3 out of 5 by 81.
Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good Housing...after you figure out how to install the clips. These are good quality can lights but it took me about five cans before I really figured out how to easily install the clips. You don't need to bend the clips or the housing and there is nothing wrong with the design. The problem lies in the fact that the lower portion of the clip (t-section) has to slide down between the housing and the drywall to properly (easily) lock in place. If you use a 5 1/2" hole saw to make a precision cut, when the housing is pushed up into the hole, there is no space for the t-section of the clip to slide, and this is the reason that it won't snap in place. The easiest way to remedy this is to push the housing up into the hole and get it where you want it, then take a small 90 degree pick and scratch out some of the drywall near the bottom of the housing where the clips go. It doesn't have to be a lot just enough for the clip to slide down. If you do this, the clips will snap down easily and then you can take a flat blade screwdriver and just slide the clip up locking it in place. Also you can buy some #14-3/4" screws to secure the clip to the housing. This makes the installation very secure and I did this as well. I will caution you that the clip has to be slid up in the housing before driving the screw in though. You can't just use the screw to lock the clip down if it keeps popping up. The screw will not hold if you try to drive it into the t-secion of the housing. I found that I damaged quite a bit of the foam when installing these, so I bought some aluminum tape, like you use on sheet metal duct work and put a piece over each clip to make the housing more air tight. You can also use this tape to seal up other areas of the housing. If you get the clips installed correctly, you may not need to bother with the screws as this will be fairly secure.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Very difficcult to install Just finished installing 7 of these in my kitchen. The clips are almost impossible to install. My son pushed the clips from the bottom while I went into the attic to help pull them out from above. The clips need a redesign to make them easier to install. Finished product looks good, but we are exhausted from the effort.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from You must be smarter than the clips The clips are little bit of a pain if you don't understand how they work. You need to push a flat head screw driver though the insulating tape so that it catches on the small tab under it . Then you need to hit the screw driver with a hammer so as to push the clip out (flush with the wall of the can) and then upward so the clip slides up the slot to lock in place. My dad, who's been a electrician for over 35 years and who has installed hundreds of Halo can was totally frustrated. I'm an engineer though and figured it with a little trial and error.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Should have read the review first These lights looked nice and there are not many options on remodel can lights. The clip design to hold the light tight against the drywall is horrible. I spent 2 hours trying to get ONE light locked in. Hammer, screwdriver, and lots of cursing did not get it locked. Only after climbing into the attic and pulling up on the clips as a helper pushed them could I get it to lock in. The one I installed the next day did go in easier. I only had to hit it with a hammer to get the clips to lock on it. I do not write reviews on products but this one had me so mad I took the time to write one. Hopefully others do what I failed to do: read the reviews first. Good luck

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Installing as easy as 123 Read all negative comments about the clips. Be patient people, nothing comes easy. I just installed 14 of them. They look great. You just have to figure out how the clips work and next thing you know you'll be on a roll. Try this. Place a flat head screw driver on the gray tape on clip and tap inwards with the palm of your hand or a hammer, then gently hit the clip upward and it will lock in. The trick is pushing the clip inwards and then upwards. Do one clip on one side and then one the opposite side first. then finish the rest. You also want to make sure there is not debris on the other side of the sheet rock as this may prevent the clip from locking into place properly. Do Not hit the clip upward too hard or you will tear right thru it.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from worked great As i read some of the issues with the clips i decided to buy 2x4 sheets of dry wall before installing in my ceiling. I practiced on those sheets of dry wall until i perfected it. The one tip that worked the best was to use a screw driver to gently pry open the top slit in the housing where the top of the clip goes. Once i did that it was easy. Once in the ceiling i used a flat head screw driver to drive the clip up and in until it locked into place.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Okay, other than clips Well, the clips are just poorly designed, but like another reviewer said, all you have to do is take them out and bend them out a little, reinstall the can, push the clips in, then definitely use a screwdriver to push them up and lock in place.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from I HAVE USED THESE MANY TIMES. VERY EASY TO USE. THERE ARE TIMES WHEN YOU NEED TO PRE-BEND THE TAB... I HAVE USED THESE MANY TIMES. VERY EASY TO USE. THERE ARE TIMES WHEN YOU NEED TO PRE-BEND THE TABS BECAUSE OF CEILING THICKNESS, BUT OVER ALL NICE PRODUCT. IF I COULD CHANGE ANYTHING ABOUT THIS PRODUCT I WOULD MAKE THE LOWER LIP SLIGHTLY LARGER SO YOU CAN CUT A LARGER HOLE, WHICH WOULD HELP WITH GETTING THE PRODUCT IN THE CEILING.
