I only have PEX piping for my water supply in my home as it is new construction and this is all that was used. Am I unable to use the included water valve connection to connect my water supply? is there an alternative method I can use to make this connection?

Answer:
If you have PEX, do not use the water supply valve that is included. I would recommend using a tee fitting, like those available from SharkBite that work with CPVC, PEX, and copper. Once the tee fitting is in place, you can plumb to a water supply shut-off that will accept the 1/4 in. water supply tubing included with the humidifier. Be sure to rough-up the first 1 in. of plastic tubing with sandpaper so Read More

Mounting on warm air plenum

This question is from Whole House Furnace Mount Flow Through Humidifier
Asked by

December 1, 2015
My furnace has the return air duct below the motor and the warm air plenum above it, so they are separated by a good 3 feet from each other.
I think in this case I need to install the humidifier on the warm air side, but will it work as well? What is the compromise if both the bypass and the unit are mounted on the plenum? Since there is no fan, I don't see how the air will go through the unit...

Answer:
My installation required mounting the unit on the hot air plenum and feeding the air back to the cold plenum and it worked great. Rigid duct work was used instead of the supplied flexible duct. The air in the hot plenum is being forced and will try to escape through any opening. The cold air plenum is at a lower pressure and will draw the moistened air from the unit.

The humidifier must be mounted such that it uses the circulation of the furnace, so the 6 in. bypass duct and the humidifier cannot both be mounted on the warm air supply plenum. Can this unit be installed on either side of the return plenum and, if so, is the housing 'reversible' to accommodate this #otherwise, the water supply solenoid will be upside down#?

Answer:
Yes, the humidifier can be installed either way due to the symetrical design. The solenoid valve is always at the top in either case

Rated 3.9 out of 5 by 17 reviewers.
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by 100% satisfied Performs exactly as advertised, very quiet and does a great job moisturizing the air in my little 672 sq. ft. home. No significant increase in my water usage either. April 4, 2016
Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by Works Great but the installation may need enhancements This humidifier would be rated 5 stars for an application that requires no adjustments to the supplied installation plans. My basic, forced air furnace is installed so that only one side of each vertical plenum is accessible. It was necessary to install the humidifier on the wide side of the hot air plenum and then use rigid 6” round duct work to feed the unit’s output into the horizontal cold air plenum. This unit is designed to fit the flexible duct that comes with it. The output port of the unit is much smaller than the female side of a 6” round duct so an adapter had to be fabricated. By hammering out the crimps of the male side of a 6” elbow, it then fit nice and snug onto the supplied plastic starter collar. During testing, the pulse module never came on in the normal setting. The “LO” setting worked but would continue to pulse water for 15 minutes after the furnace turned off. An outlet was installed on the side of the furnace for the unit’s AC adapter. This outlet was wired to toggle on and off with the furnace fan. I was then able to leave the pulse module setting on low with the unit automatically shutting down when the furnace fan turned off. The unit works perfectly now, but I feel installation enhancements such as this would be beyond the ability of many home owners. The media pads are not carried at Home Depot and must be ordered on-line. One pad should last an entire heating season. In summary, this type of humidifier, with a flow through water system, is the only kind to use. I’ve had plenty of bad experiences with the rotating drum, water bath, calcium clogged nightmare types to never go back. December 31, 2015
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Great for price Humidifier works just as it should. Instructions are not very detailed but be sure to leave enough room for solenoid that mounts on top of humidifier before cutting into main supply. Had to adjust my hole a bit because there was not enough clearance near top main trunk. The plug in transformer could have been a little longer but with extra wire I was able to splice onto it. Be sure to call technician because the settings given in instructions are not correct. I have a high efficiency gas furnace and was told by the tech to put switch at low temp not high temp. When on high temp water valve (solenoid) kept opening supplying too much water when not needed. December 22, 2015
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Meets all expectations This was an exact replacement for the 20 year old original. I shorted out the solenoid on the old unit and replacement parts proved difficult to find. I bought the newest version of the same model and the frame fit the duct work cutout perfectly. This one has a timer module that wasn't part of the original install. While the old version would run water whenever it was on, most of it went to drain. The timer module passes just enough water to wet the pad. Very little is sent to drain. It seems to run about 3 seconds every minute when the humidity drops. December 15, 2015
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Great Product. I mounted it to the flex duct return. This is a great product. I read the reviews online and discovered the Honeywell model has issues, so I went with Hamilton. Very pleased and zero regrets. I have a 1,600 sq. ft. house and this unit can make the windows drip with condensation (I actually have to turn it down). No moving parts (except the water solenoid), no slimy drum to clean out, and best of all no humidifiers to refill. See the pictures, attached. The directions say it can be mounted to either the return or supply ducts at the furnace. I have a flex duct return, so I wanted the main body of the humidifier mounted to the solid surface of the supply duct. The directions did not describe this scenario, so I improvised. I hope the attached pictures and drawings help someone else in the same boat I was. I did have to install a 110VAC outlet for the power. However, I already had an existing drain (for AC condensation), for the drain tube. The unit works beautifully and no more dry skin. Great job Hamilton!!! December 12, 2014
Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by All components Included Only had for a month, so hard to say how it is working. Easy install. December 31, 2015
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Good Product I purchased this humidifier to replace an older Lasko unit that had failed after 10 years. This unit had a slightly larger footprint and installed easily. I already had the power, water, and drain setup so install was a snap. It comes with everything necessary down to the saddle valve for supply and hose to connect to the drain. It makes an odd sound when the solenoid valve opens but other than that is completely quiet. It also includes a damper for tool free seasonal transitions. I purchased an additional wick to save searching for one later. The difference in the house is amazing. Cats are much happier. March 4, 2014
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Replacement unit --- staying with what works I replaced a 13 year old Hamilton unit that failed. This new one was a direct replacment and had several new features that were great. I would definitely buy another from Home Depot.com March 11, 2015
