Customer Questions & Answers

Where can I purchase a dusk to dawn photo cell for my outdoor garage llight.

The light does not go on at night. The bulb is operable in similar light on the garage.
Asked by: Dick
Be careful, the photocell sensors HD sells do not fit these lights! I called the 800 number found in the instructions manual to call if a problem exists. I trouble shooted my two lights and verified both lights had bad photocells ( after only two weeks old). I unfortunately found out the hard way. HD recommended the part number for the replacement photocell. Made a trip to HD to buy two of them. Then went home, took the light apart, cut the wires, then went to install the photocell sensor and it doesn't fit. So frustrating.

This was purchased to replace a 25 year old CFL dusk to dawn light in our backyard. It looks much nicer and was easy to mount on the wall. The old CFL light used 22w of power this new one uses only 8w with a 75w equivalent LED daylight (5000)(1150 Lumen) bulb. We are very happy with our purchase.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from I hope it works tonight ... Bought this today to replace the same product that I installed years ago that finally failed. Wish I had taken it out of the box before I bought it. What a disappointment. The difference in quality between the old and new are night and day. The new one is cheap and flimsy. If it doesn't turn on after the sun goes down I will take it back tomorrow. Might take it back even if it does work ...

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Bad sensors I purchase five of these for outside lights around the house and garage. Three failed within a month. I spent an hour trouble shooting thinking the switch was bad. I finally realized that the photocell sensors went bad on three light fixtures! What's the chance of all three going bad? I then purchase three more and installed them ( second time). After one week two of the new three failed. Again photocell sensors. Apparently HD has had a bad tun on these photocell sensors. I then tried to replace the photocell sensors as per recommendation via the 800 number at Hampton Bay. I buy the sensors and they dont fit! Good grief now I went back and returned the two bad light fixtures and replaced them for the third time! Wow, lots of labor here. So will see if they hold up now. If they failed that's it, returning them and will pursue a different brand. I would not recommend these lights

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Looks good, works as described Purchased three of these lights as replacements for lights on the outside of our house. The first one took some time to install. Had to cut the screws shorter and make some modifications. After the first one, the others were easy because we knew what to do. Some of the caps for the screws were missing, however they were so small and cheaply made, that we used the caps from the old light fixtures.

This is the second one of these I have purchased the first was about a year ago, I use it with a compact fluorescent pole light (sealed) and it works just perfect. It does not flicker or do anything funny and it puts out more light than my old smaller one did by a lot. So I purchased another one for my mom and I will try it with an LED and see how that works.

Fairly easy to install and looks nice. Also, I like the built in light sensor. Just a word of warning, placing my finger over the sensor did not turn on the light during the day time. It needs to be dark or you need to put some electrical tape over the sensor to test is out.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Classic look, dusk to dawn lighting come together! This classic style wall lantern can accept any standard base bulb (medium, E26) which means great flexibility in lighting choices. I've opted for a Cree LED lamp also available at Home Depot. The added security to the point of installation gives us peace of mind.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from You get what you pay for.... I tried a couple of dawn to dusk lamps before coming across this one. The product delivers what is advertised as described in features and functionality, i.e. ease of installation, appearance, quality, etc. I especially enjoy the fact that a threaded/normal light bulb can be used--versus the others which uses a special typically more expensive replacement bulb. I also found that these bulbs (the one with the dual prongs which slide and twist into the receptacle) typically worked themselves loose after a week or so thereby defeating the purpose for installing the lamp in the first place--security. As for ease of installation, it is a breeze so long as your are replacing a preexisting one. Overall, I got what I paid for and that is all that matters.
