I found this in the clearance section- So I thought I would give them a try to get rid of the 20 yr old nasty white one in our kitchen. Mind you I installed this 14 feet high! I t was very easy to install, and contrary to other review, the light have to put in correctly and the turned to lock into place along the metal side- If it doesn't go in, that means you are doing it wrong :) I was missing a light bulb and called HD and they replaced with a 3 pack! BONUS! I also did get a cool dimmer and these lights really brighten up the kitchen!! We love it! Thanks HD!!

Bought these for use in a hallway with existing (30 year old) white track. The area is open to living, dining, foyer and kitchen where I'm using oil rubbed bronze fixtures. Was concerned that the "black" on these wouldn't work, but they are just fine (not a shiny dark black) and actually look nice on the white track, which is the ceiling color. They give very strong light and were very easy to install. The globe does not attach with any screws so you must be attentive that they are securely popped in, otherwise they could easily fall out; the only reason I gave them a lower quality rating. Although more expensive than non halogen bulbs, they seem to be a little more affordable than most halogen track lighting.

There are two things wrong with these track lights.
1. Nothing holds the heavy glass shade on other than a flimsy spring clip, and the glass shade does not fit over the halogen bulb. So, when you go to grab the globe to position the light, it easily pops off and you can very easily break the bulb. These look like they could fall off on their own just from vibration if you have a second floor and people are walking above the spot where the track is installed.
2. The lights do not fit in to the track properly. I was able to finesse the other two that came in the kit with the track and 3 lights, but the 3rd light simply would not work. I bought a light and returned the bad one and told them that the fixture was a bad one and to return it to the vendor as defective. Judging by the response I received, I'm almost 100% certain that the defective light probably got put back on the shelf and sold as new again.
If it weren't for the fact that it was such a pain to install this track on my 12 foot ceilings and what I had to go through to get the wire run to it, I would have taken it down and returned the whole thing.
Tip: The only way I could get the lights to work was snap them in place and then try to forcefully slide them a little once they were clipped in to place. That's the only way I could get them to work. Once you get these in place, don't ever touch them again until a bulb blows. Better yet, don't even waste your time with the Halogens, buy LED's so you never have to touch it again once it's installed.
