Once it gets dark, the light goes on then goes off in daylight. In my case, however, my front porch cover keeps my light on till around 0800-0900. The light is bright enough to cover my three car driveway. It pretty bright.

Answer:
It means that there's a sensor that automatically turns on the light at dusk, and turns it off at dawn. The sensor detects the amount of ambient light, so you might find that on a really dark overcast stormy day that the light turns on.

Answer:
"Dusk-to-Dawn" = the fixture has a photoelectric sensor which causes the GU24 CFL bulb to illuminate at dusk and turn off at dawn. The included CFL bulb's light output is equivalent to a 60w incandescent bulb.

I think I saw this model, without the photocell, at homedepot.com. Just look in the Outdoor Wall Lighting section, filter by Hampton Bay, then sort by price. I think it was around $11.

Cal - This light can be controlled by a standard wall switch without any modification. If you want to go to full manual operation (that is, on/off without regard to ambient light), you can bypass the photocell before you install the light.

There are adapters that allow a standard base bulb to be used with the two prong design. I recommend them anyway because the two prong bulbs don't have a tight fit. One of my bulbs kept coming loose until I put the adapter on.I hope this helps.

We have changed our outdoor lights three times in the last 4 years-either the bulbs (the ones that supposedly will last forever!) burn out, the dusk to dawn didn't work correctly, or they were just plain ugly. We FINALLY found the perfect lights! We have 4 of these dusk to dawn lights around our home now and are very pleased. We have them at our garage doors, side/deck doors and front door. They were easy to install, look so much better than the ugly industrial dusk to dawn lights, give off just the right amount of light for safety and security and are very affordable. Time will tell how the bulbs hold up, but we are extremely pleased right now.

Very easy to install and the moveable bracket that holds the permanent bracket to the wire box is certainly a big help in positioning your light. It makes it easy to get a straight light with a few easy adjustments. Simple but yet attractive and bright. My only complaint is the bulb fixture. It's one of the new types that requires a two pronged bulb and aligning the prongs can be a challenge. I would like to have the old fashioned screw in type but more lighting companies are going to this type of fixture it appears. Fluorescent lights seem bright and they work in cold weather when the temperature dropped to zero last week. Overall, a very good product.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Nice fixture Great value for an outdoor fixture with built in photocell. However do not like the GU 24 lamp base, would much rather have the standard medium base. This way I could use standard LED lamp throughout house without using a converter or lamp all together.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from cheap hardware The light fixture came with all the hadware needed to install the fixture but the nuts used to secure the lamp where plastic. Just how long are plastic nut going to last in the heat and sun if the mojave desert? I replaced them with the nut from the old fixture. Also not to happy about the light socket and choice of bulbs. Did not notice it in the on line discription when ordering.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Its a pretty light I love the look of the light and the size is great. I'm not so sure about the light bulb that comes with it. I've had the light for almost 3 wks and the light did not come on last night. When I checked it, the bulb had worked itself loose. I hope I don't have to keep check on this every few wks, that would be a pain in the butt.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great product! I really like the dusk to dawn feature and how accurately it functions.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Beware of Bulb Type Cons: - Bulb is GU24 and doesn't stay in well at all. Almost feels as though it will fall out, and half the time the light won't turn on because the bulb can't "lock" into place. If I then just tap the bulb it goes on. See photo for what a GU24 bulb looks like before you buy cause I had never heard of them before. Should have been just a normal screw on type - Mounting hardware is a little bit less than ideal. My existing fixture didn't have a J-box to mount to, and was just anchored into my brick wall. This pushed the bolt the fixture is secured by up against the brick instead of recessed a bit into the j-box. Made the cap that screws onto the bolt max out, and the fixture is a little loose. Will have to buy a shorter bolt or some spacers so the fixture is tight against the wall. See photo where you can see the the cap is screwed all the way, but there is still space between cap and fixture - would be nice if you could disable the dusk to dawn so it functions like a normal light - One bulb did not work and had to return to store for a replacement bulb Pros: - THE PRICE!!!!!! - Comes with a bulb - bronze and frosted glass look good. Can't see bulb, just light.

The one on the front of my house has been lighting my yard and driveway each night for a year now. Enough light to be useful without being obrusive. It's my first experience with this type of bulb. The replacement was expensive but I still haven't needed it yet and since there was no noticeable change in my electric bill, that isn't an issue. I've used the back porch and shed lights as typical switched lights with no problems. Motion activated lights annoy me, these don't. Nice, subtle light.
