Customer Questions & Answers

Has anyone installed a netting or curtains on this gazebo. If so how?

Asked by: Natram
Yes, I installed a mesh tarp with brass eye holes using magnets with hooks that the tarp would hang from the inside at the lowest pitch of the roof. In addition, I attached the sides using bungee cords by hooking through the side eye holes and wrapping around the corner posts. I used 3 per side and they were color coordinated with the color of the mesh tarp. I just shaded one side, the west, as most of the sun on the porch comes from there. The tarp cost was less than $30.

how do I get installation instructions

Bought the demo at the store ( no instructions)
Asked by: Juno
If you look at the item online, you will see a tab for specifications, reviews, etc. There should be one for installation instructions as well. I know they are online as I looked at them before I bought my gazebo.

this gazebo has no rod or curtain track, how will i install the netting?

do I have to install rods or curtain tracks myself? if so what kind?
Asked by: Ivette
There is no netting that comes with this gazebo. You could get a piece of 1/2" conduit, paint it black to match the frame and use some nice shower curtain hooks to hand some netting.

Customer Reviews

10 ft. x 10 ft. Harper Gazebo is rated 4.4 out of 5 by 50.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Gazebo A great gazebo and adds a lot to my deck. Had read the reviews before I purchased this and had an idea about what I was getting my self into. I like the care and maintenance advice to take this down when not in use. Not going to happen as it took about 6 hours over three days to get this erected and it weighs over 300 lbs. I had seen the directions online before I bought this gazebo, and I had read the reviews so I knew I wasn't going to follow the installation directions as they are printed. If you do follow the directions in sequence you will indeed "need six peoples" for the installation. I did the installation myself with minimal assistance from my wife. First assemble the legs and set them aside. Next assemble the roof frame -- nothing more. Once this is done you will need assistance (my wife) to put the legs in the brackets on the roof frame. From here, all of the installation was done with a 6 ft step ladder. I put in the connectors from the corners to the bottom of the small roof (cupola) I then assembled the cupola frame, but could had done this before I put in the corner connectors. With the cupola frame connected to the corner connectors I concentrated on completing the assembly of the cupola (put the panels in place and the finial on top) From this point on, I went to the first part of the instructions and pretty much followed them in sequence to complete the installation. It was helpful to have my wife put the bolts, screws, washers, nuts, etc together so that when I needed them they were all ready to go. She also handed me parts so that I didn't have to continue to go up and down the ladder. This could have been completed in 1 day, but I worked around various errands and a couple of rain showers. Since this was on a raised deck and the gazebo weighs 300+ lbs I added some supports to the deck joists directly below each gazebo leg. We intended to add a ceiling fan to our gazebo from the first time we saw the assembled product on our local Home Depot floor. The hook isn't really conducive to hanging a ceiling fan so I got a standard ceiling light box, rated for a fan, and drilled a 5/16" hole in the center of it before painting the outside black. I used a fender washer (to reinforce the knockout in the outlet) and got a replacement bolt (M8 with 1.25 thread that was 7/8" long) to hold the outlet box to the top of the gazebo where the hook was intended. I bought a Hampton Bay "Gazebo II" indoor/outdoor fan (in black) to install. You will need to get a 12" universal fan rod to drop the fan motor and blades low enough to clear the gazebo panels. With the 10' height of the gazebo the fan blades and motor are well above head height for most people -- NBA players might be excepted if they are 7' tall.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great product This is an outstanding product but horrible assembly instructions. This gazebo is very well made and very strong. I think it will last a very long time. I would suggest taking some pictures of the assembled unit at the Home Depot store as a reference while you are assembling.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Well worth the price. I'll start by saying that box weighs 366 lbs. so when it gets delivered make sure it's dropped off as closest to its final destination. Installation took me 6 hrs over three days with my 6 year old daughter helping for the first couple of days when I was putting the roof frame together which is the part that takes the longest due to the lack of step by step installation instructions, take your time and use common sense and you'll figure it out. 1.- build outer frame of roof first. 2.- build smaller top roof frame next and set aside 3.- attach four center beams loosely (H) 4.- attach smaller top roof frame previously put together on step 2 ( need 2nd pair of hands) 5.- attach corner long beams (F) 6.- attach cross bars (I-1, I-2, I-3, I-4) four sets one per face of roof. This is the step that is the most vague in the instructions , but the way it works is is I-1 left upper cross beam and I-2 right upper cross beam , I-3 left lower cross beam and I-4 is lower right cross beam. (This is where the common sense part comes in) if it doesn't fit perfectly then it doesn't go there. 7.- attach all roof panels starting with J-5,4,3,2,1 in that order for every side of roof. 8.- grab 2 buddies and 2 of you lift roof from one side and the 3rd guy slips in 2 legs, carefully lift opposite side and slip 2 more legs in. Attach corner braces and you're done.. This last part I did by my self lifting and my wife sliding legs in, I don't recommend it since this roof weighs at least 120 lbs just lifting one side and you have to be tall enough to lift high enough to be able to slip legs in, I'm 6' tall and with my hands up above my head I was able to barely get the necessary height to get the legs in. Hope it helps.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Nice Product - directions... not so much! I WOULD RATE THIS ALL A 5 IF THE DIRECTIONS WERE NOT SO POOR! Have to spend more time than necessary reading and re-reading and trying to interpret the poor drawings. Charge $5.00 more and print drawings you can read and understand. This is taking waaaaay too long. Came back here to see if the online manuals were any more helpful. Don't waste your time - they are not. Hampton Bay - I am very disappointed in you!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Crowd favorite This was the best thing we ever bought. It gives us an outdoor room that is useable all the time. In the rain from the sun. A real favorite with friends. Everyone raves about this and says that can't have any more get together a at their place since we have this. We absolutely couldn't be happier.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good product terrible instructions First let me say this seems to be a quality designed product but the instructions leave a little to be desired. It took me 5 hours to assemble with very little help and I’m pretty handy. Make sure to plan a day to get this done and have a couple of strong friends to lift the top into place. There are NO extra screws or nuts so if you drop one FIND IT. The best way to start is to take every piece out of the box and remove the wrapping. Lay them in the order that they are lettered. Be sure to give yourself a LARGE working space. When attaching the Decorative Grove D1 into the corner part make sure the two holes in the connector are facing the bottom. Make sure all other beams are assembled with the screw hole facing up. All of the panels are attached from the top. A;sp all screws are on the inside of the frame so nothing shows from the outside. When you start to attach the roof beams don’t worry they are made to stick up. It looks funny but its correct. The roof panels match but they don’t really lock till you attach the coping. Install the roof panels with the ridges upward. If you can’t get them to line up just loosen the screw and move it a little. Now the fun part, attaching the roof. The easiest way is to pick up one side, then attach the top legs. Move to the other side and pick it up. That way you only really lifting one side and not the whole thing. Most of the screw holes have lots of room to adjust the alignment. Have fun don’t get rushed or frustrated.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from works for me I needed some shade to sit under when my friends come over during the summer and didn't want to buy one of those soft tops, it was easy to put together, the only change I would recommend is not to put the panels on the top until you raise it on the posts, its just to heavy to raise the top after its all put together. It seems to hold up good during the wind as long as you got it secured good to the ground, I put it on concrete.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Only Time Will Tell I purchased this Gazebo to leave up through 4 seasons. I live in Massachusetts and have owned a fabric top gazebo which I had to replace the top on every year, so I am hoping with some care during the winter (raking the snow off after every storm) it will hold up, so I don't have to take it down. It took over an hour to unpack, and 3 1/2 hours to assemble between myself and a friend, who by the way both of us are very resourceful, we also used cordless tools to assemble it. The instructions were terrible, though the parts were labelled correctly there were several times we had to either take something back apart or scratch our heads trying to figure out how to fit a part to get to the next step. They only had generic cartoon style pictures to follow, and gave no advance warnings to the following steps. the beginning of the assembly instruction shows the cupola installed but it doesn't instruct you to assemble it till half way through. Also it didn't tell us that the panels sit inside the frame on top, we realized after we had all the left sides installed as directed, and when we tried to put the rest of the panels on of course it was short of reaching the other side. Actual pictures of the product would have been much more helpful in assembling this thing! The one thing that worries me the most is at the end of the assembly instructions it says "when not in use store in a cool dry area"..... This thing weighs over 300 lbs, do they expect you take it back apart and store it for the winter? Obviously my wife and myself aren't going to be able to move it while it's assembled, and when not assembled there are an awful lot of parts to this thing, which is why it took an hour for the two of us to unpack it from the box. So storing for the winter is not an option for us! Right now it's the beginning of spring so it will be quite some time before the snow will fall again so we will see if the $1,300 investment pays off next year. I also want to add that there is metal framework that surrounds all the parts inside the box for shipping purposes which makes the container almost bullet proof which i thought was impressive, (when we took the frame out initially we thought it was part of the canopy because it was the same powder coated color) the only thing is now I am stuck having to get rid of it. I have to pay to bring these type of thing to the dump! There are other gazebos with solid tops out there that boast 4 seasons and I just assumed this one was too when I saw it at home depot, I wish I had read the product details before I bought it because it doesn't recommend leaving it up all year. Having a metal top lead me to believe it would be a 4 season gazebo, so I am quite a bit disappointed and really can't bring it back now that its finished. For these reasons I wouldn't recommend this product to my friends in the area. I'm sure it would be great for people in the southern areas of US where there isn't snow.... I will cover it with a heavy duty tarp in the winter and pray it makes it!!!
