How to fill base

I bought an umbrella at a garage Sa Le and I don't know how to fill the base
Asked by: Lala
under plastic cover are two bags. fill these bags with sand. If bags are not under plastic cover, purchase 2 5lbs of sand bags and place on each side of legs under plastic cover.

What's the Difference in Cost?

I see some of these umbrellas priced at $299 and others, which look the same, priced at $499. What's the difference between them?
Asked by: Myopic
The $499 one is Sunbrella material. It will last much longer than the polyester fabric.

Took about an hour to put it together and it went smoothly. Looks great and should meet our needs. Very functional and all the levers worked well and the solar lights all worked thus far. When putting the sand in the base, I would recommend just setting the umbrella's provided bags in the bottom of the base with the sand bags on top of them. We bought four 50 pound play-sand bags and they fit in the base perfectly. In the event we want to move the umbrella at a later date, it will be much easier that way.

Box weights 80 pounds, you will need a truck or large SUV to pick up at store. Took about 40 minutes to assemble. We took advice of another reviewer, putting the plastic bag for sand on bottom of stand and just laid the sand in their original bags over the plastic (did not open sand and try to put in the plastic bag). All the parts were there, all the lights work and it looks great. Now we wait to see how long it will last. I am hoping to get at least three years out of it. The 5 start recommendation is based on my experience so far. If needed, I will update review.

The red color is so pretty, and the solar lights are the best, they really light up the dining area beautifully. It's huge, it covers the whole table and chairs, and its great to not have an umbrella in the middle of the table. However, if the breeze happens to be strong, the whole thing moves. You definitely can't use this on very windy days. Not only does the umbrella itself sway back and forth precariously, but the stand seems like the 220 lbs of sand in it just isn't enough. Fearing the thing taking flight one very breezy day, we placed three extra 50-lb bags of sand on top of the stand, so it looks bad but seems sturdier now. But, on a non-windy day, it's just perfect.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from 11ft LED offset patio umbrella So far it is working well! We did NOT assemble the base and use it. Instead we secured it to the deck with bolts at the base and metal clasps around the pole which secured it to the deck rail. The base assembly appears to be a small nightmare! Haven't een able to use it much, yet, because of all the rain. However, we live right in Lake Michigan and it has held up well during the last gale force winds and rain storm. All the LED lights work and run off a solar cap you attach to the top of umbrella. I am pleased with this addition to our deck and will update if I experience any problems with continued use over the summer.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from All In One Umbrella I'm confused by the negative reviews. Some of the issues must have been addressed by the manufacturer because I can't find the problems that the negative reviews point out. I purchased this on 2/28/17. It's all you need for your backyard. I'm sure the $499 version might be a better material but I couldn't justify $200 for Sunbrella fabric. This is perfect for our needs. Umbrella- Sturdy fabric, water repellent, great color offering. (I chose chili (red) for contrast and to hide dirtiness) The solar charged LED lights work perfectly and is great mood lighting at night. (Not at all outdoor lighting bright) There are straps to hold the umbrella closed while it's at rest and additional straps to hold it to the post for stability. Very well thought out. Post and mechanism- The brown powdercoat with a slight sparkle is a good thickness and color. The plastic handles, knobs and hinges are great quality and durable. The removable socket styles crank was a good touch. I wipe the arm clean of dirt and dust to prevent scratches and to ensure flawless functionality. Base- It is included, large, excellent construction, the included sandbags are sturdy and the plastic base that covers sandbags look great. This is the right size/weight base for an umbrella of this size and it keeps everything stable. Don't forget to buy the sand when you buy this umbrella. You will need 220 lbs. of sand. Scoop the sand into the provided base formed sandbags, it needs to get into the cavities so the bags lay flat. The sandbags strap together and sits over the cross base. There are locking base walls and a top cover for a clean look. This was very well thoughtout. Function- I wish it had a canter or tilt function. You just have to be creative with the locking rotation (another great feature), the extension and expansion of the umbrella. With the large diameter, it can cover anything. The Velcro straps attached to the umbrella for stability will also assist in positioning your shade to your liking. The umbrella itself has a slight sway and tilt and this helps it achieve different positions, be creative. Overall- I would have given this 4 STARS because of the lack of a cover. I do love this umbrella so much that I couldn't bring myself to give it less that 5 STARS. I bought a full zip cantilever 13' umbrella cover from The Cover Store and problem solved. If the previous negative reviews were for an earlier model, I hope this helps those looking for a review of what they see in the store in 2017. I also wish there was a height adjustment while the arm was at full extension. As I said before, it can be achieved with a little creativity. If you are buying an umbrella and a base, which you hope will be heavy enough or wide enough to withstand wind, good luck. The frustration of the cost of a base and an umbrella big enough to cover a normal size patio set is what lead me to this. $299 is a great deal for what you get with this purchase. There is not much negativity to be said about this umbrella. My girlfriend felt that it was too big when she saw it at Home Depot but once she saw how inferior other umbrella set ups are, she was very happy with my choice. It is excellent and I highly recommend it. Once I bought a cover, it was perfect.

Overall, this seems like a sturdy and solid umbrella, which is really important for something this big. It was pretty easy to assemble. All parts function as designed, including the solar LED lighting. I just wish the umbrella could tilt as well as rotate, the LEDs were warm white and not cool, and that the base was not so bulky. I did fill the included bags with sand, which takes some effort, so the umbrella stands securely, but I'm considering buying weights with a slimmer profile to replace the whole bulky sandbag/plastic housing at the base. Otherwise, it seems like a good deal for the price and features. Plus, the company also offers matching market umbrellas in different sizes which is something to consider if you have multiple areas in your yard that need shade.

Very sturdy and handles the wind very well. When assembling, place the bags of sand in the base. Do not dump the sand from their original bags. This will make for easy removal in the future. The LEDs last for about 6 hours then they go out. Start dimming at around hour 4. Hoping to get another two seasons out of it. Will get another when this one wears out.

I am an above average athletic male and I now hate the weighting system they designed for this. The bag that you have to fill has a small hole that is resealable with velcro. The bag has inner compartments that you have to fill by reaching your hand in the bag and trying to push sand in all of the nooks. It requires 110lbs of sand in each of the 2 bags. Then you are going to have to lift the 110lb awkward sandbag and carry into place. After 45 minutes of filling the first bag with sand, I set the bag down near the base and a 6" portion of the seam opened spilling sand out. This is the poorest weight system I have ever seen. I wish it took water like other umbrellas and portable basketball hoops. I am not sure why they just didn't make individual tough bags for the individual bags of sand; then you could just put the entire bag of sand in their bag, and not wrestle with a big bag of 110lbs of dead weight.
