Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Captain9 DO NOT BUY THIS UMBRELLA!!!!!
Shortly after a year (right out of warranty) the plastic piece that slides the umbrella up and out failed. To make matters worse, they do not sell/make replacement parts for these units. No help was offered from the company. Pretty sad that it barely lasted a year for $300. Save your money buy one that doesn't fall to pieces. I have read other reviews where the company backed out of the warranty because the umbrella was outside. Nothing like something for the outdoors that is not supposed to be outside! Buyer be ware. Steer clear of this junk!!!!!

I bought this just over 1 1/2 yrs ago. The umbrella arm broke right off. The pic in the other review is exactly what happened to mine. Total weak spot inn the plastic and Hampton Bay refuses to acknowledge it. I went to Home Depot today in Peoria, IL and customer service (Greg) called Hampton Bay # since they are exclusive to Home Depot. Since my Umbrella is over 1 year old (Paid over $400) they could not warranty it. I was told that replacement umbrella would be $120 and shipping would be $80. No Thank You!!!! I will never by Hampton Bay products again.

I bought this product less than two years ago (around Memorial Day 2013), put it up in mid-June 2013, stored it during the winter months, and it is already unusable.
Also, the $299 does not include the price of sand, which is needed in the base, or it will be blown over by a breeze. (Sand is relatively cheap but it is not included in the $299 price.)
On Saturday 4/19 I brought it out for the summer season, opened up the umbrella for my 5 year old daughter and her friend, and a few minutes later, a less-than-moderate breeze broke the crank assembly (as shown in the pictures). Since everything "above the waist" is a single unit, with no discernible way to fix it, it will either have to be replaced, or the whole unit scrapped.
I am hoping that the base can be re-used with another umbrella. An initial search for it revealed reviews of others saying that they cannot easily get replacement parts, and from the looks of it, the "less than 2" summers worth of usage appears above average.
If I can't reuse the base, I will refuse to buy anything Hampton Bay, including their ceiling fans (for which I have had better luck with).
Hampton Bay, if you are listening, OFFER REPLACEMENT PARTS!, or Construct your umbrellas in such a way that THEY CAN BE FIXED INSTEAD OF BEING SCRAPPED!
If you buy this umbrella, caviat emptor.

This was an expensive purchase. But the umbrella was large, therefore I wanted to have it. Well it broke less than a year. A part simply snapped. Not in heavy winds, not from swinging on it, no, just from sitting outside in the sun. Where it's supposed to be! I called Home Depot, reluctantly they sent me a replacement. I've had that replacement for 1 year and 2 months. And guess what??? Yup! Snapped in the same place again! I called Home Depot again and after getting the run around and transfer after transfer I was told, "well we have improved this umbrella, so you should buy it again and maybe this one will work better for you". Are you serious!!!??? I'm so done with Home Depot!

Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by ImofftoLowes Complete Garbage!
This product is complete garbage. While i will say that the base is solid and does a great job of keeping the umbrella stationary, the LED lights will go out after 5-6 uses, the umbrella and its frame system is not suited for winds above 5mph. Winds above 5mph will cause the umbrella to fold inside out and snap. Also, the strap used to tie the umbrella to the stand when in the open position is flimsy. If you want a solid umbrella worth $330 keep looking.

I decided to take a chance and go with the umbrella even after reading the reviews. I was in the store and just felt like it would be perfect for our backyard. After putting almost everything together (including carrying all those bags of sands) we were up to attaching the solar panel and lo and behold the umbrella was not attached to the pole, the plastic bearing had broken off. This was just delivered on Friday and I was looking forward to lounging underneath the umbrella today. I hope Home Depot/Hampton Bay will be able to assist us in this matter.

Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by jcap Handle is worthless
The handle is metal and the insert is plastic. After repeated use, the handle wore down the plastic insert. Now whenever you try to crank the umbrella, the handle just spins and does nothing.

Man do I feel like a fool today. We bought this umbrella a month ago in July. It seemed a bit pricey, but looked solid. Like a smart consumer I did my research and read all of the reviews. Everything about this product screamed DON'T BUY ME. So what did I do...I bought it. I thought maybe I could be that one person it actually lasted for. Nope! I was fooled. It does look great. And when it's working, it's awesome. And even at first glance it appears to be solid. But just like almost every other person who has left a review, this product is garbage. After one month, I get a text from the wife, "Honey, guess what? The umbrella is broke!". With a light gust of wind and umbrella opened it swung into our rail on our deck and cracked the crank shaft and broke. Now unusable. And sad! Fortunately, it's been under 90 days and Home Depot has been gracious enough to allow us to return it. So for us, lesson well learned. We'll be going back to the basic $100 umbrellas that last one Summer! :-)
