Hampton Bay 12V Low Voltage Splice Connector

Is the Hampton Bay connector designed to buried and is it waterproof? Can you use this connector tie into the middle of a series of lights so that you can install a additional series of lights without affecting the 1st set of lights?
Asked by: Anonymous
Yes to the second part. I spliced a light to my flagpole in the middle of a string of lights and all continue to work. I cannot say it is water proof but the connection is similar to the clips used to attach low voltage lights by piercing the outside of the line to touch the copper - just sturdier - so I assume its difficult for water to enter. Certainly more waterproof than a manual splice to accomplish the same thing.

I use this with outdoor Low Voltage spot lights. Can I splice it into small Solar X-mass lights?

Cutting off the solar collector splicing it in. Use some lights year round (not X-mass lights) and would be cheaper than rechargeable batteries.
Asked by: MedforU
Hi MedforU, No. Not only would it damage the lighting systems, making them non-functional, it most likely would be dangerous to cut and splice two different power systems together. -Travis

Customer Reviews

12-Volt Low-Voltage Splice Connector is rated 3.6 out of 5 by 12.
Rated 4 out of 5 by from A must for landscape low voltage cable turns I have low voltage walkway lighting that a landscaper originally installed which go in different directions once off the transformer. Landscaper originally spliced cables in and taped up connection. I recently had connectivity issues and determined these connections had come loose over time. I found these connectors online and they seem to work great. Just insert your offshoot cable and the main cable into this connector and your good to either add on to your cable or turn in another direction (light both sides of your walkway). Connectors tighten around cable nicely and appear a better alternative than manually splicing connections. Just installed recently so I can't comment if problems solved long term - but I think they are. East to use - just takes a little pressure to get top bolt of connector to connect to lower half, then just tighten and bury

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Works Well This cable connector actually works compared to others I've used . Dosen;t take a lot of pressure to tighten the screw and cables worked every time I use them

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Better than the others sold in the store by HD The nut at the bottom of the connector can come loose and twist in the socket making it hard to screw the top in. You have to press hard to make sure the setting screw gets threaded into the nut. All in all, the best connector Home Depot sells. I wish they were in the stores for easier purchase. The one in the store are not as good and don't work as well. I will use this product again.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Very easy to use I found it very easy to use. I was able to connect two cable wires in minutes.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from waste of money - use electrical tape and cover with black duct tape I though I would get some sort of water-resistant snap closing device what I got was a cumbersome clamp thing that lets water in from both sides right onto the copper terminals so what's the point. Just strip the low voltage wires yourself, wind them together, tape each independently with electric tape and then both together with black duct tape - about 25 cents worth of tape.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from A real working connector This connector worked the first time I installed it. It did not require any tools like a phillips driver and was usable in very tight places. Other reviewers commented on that the screw could be longer and I agree with them but it is still usable and the shortness of the screw requires a bit more compression on the top half of the connector to engage the screw threads with its mating nut in the other half of the connector. Overall a much better design than the original Malibu connector that came with my outdoor lights.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Malibu Lighting Components I think the price is ridicules for the product. I also find it disturbing that on the web site it says 1 box of this item equals 1 item. When I received my order of 8 quantity, they came in a box of 6 and 2 individual. I have owned my own home for over 30 years and my own business for over 21 years, I have been buying from Home Depot for over 35 years and frequently. I can not ever remember having an issue with a product or customer service till now. Its sad, but probably just a sign of the times. Thank you, Tony
