Customer Questions & Answers

Can I use LED lights with this?

I'd like to install this. The Specs say "halogen" but I figure that I could use a GU10 LED bulb instead. is this so?
Asked by: JoeInCO
I switched mine to LEDs with no problem. I did switch my dimmer light switch to a dimmer switch for LEDs.

Why not?

I asked the question can the power cord be shortened, because I have a vaulted ceiling. The response indicated that the unit wasn't designed for vaulted ceilings. There is no reason that I can think of that by adjusting the heights of the stanchions that this couldn't be done (even if I had to custom make). Is there a reason that they gave that makes sense, or is this just an easy answer for them to give?
Asked by: chris
There is no design flaw. This flex track unit simply was not designed to be installed on a vaulted ceiling. You would need to replace the stanchion mounts with pivotal mounts so the the track would hang down straight from the ceiling. This is required to support the weight of the track heads. I would suggest using a linear track system and use threaded rods such as superstrut, cut to length, to gain the offset that the angle of the ceiling poses.

Can this be mounted on an angled ceiling?

My kitchen has an angled ceiling. Can I mount the stanchions so that the track hangs level?
Asked by: Lad0622
Unfortunately no. The stanchions that attach the track to the ceiling to not have a pivot point at the top. The weight of the track would most likely damage the stanchion. You could possibly find a 3/8 threaded pivot mount from another manufacturer that might work in place of the supplied stanchion mount but that is probably like looking for a needle in a hey stack.

12 ft. Brushed Steel Flex Track Starter Kit is rated 4.2 out of 5 by 12.
Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good enough for me After MUCH research, I wanted to add lighting to my older home without using recessed lighting due to the fact we have blown in insulation and a very low attic space. Mono Track Lighting is extremely expensive and I want to resell my home in 3 years so I did not want to spend the $2000.00 quote I got for other track lighting. Now you DO get what you pay for, this has a plastic outer jacket, but it does look good once it is up on the celieng. I did some pre planning on how to lay out my track, then where I wanted my pendants, then where to put the track stanchions. I am NOT a super home builder, I am actually an Electronic Engineering Technician, but I had this track up in an hour with 2 pendants that I had to wire. (parts available through the same company) Only 4 stars due to the fact that this is NOT UPSCALE track lighting, it is however easily installed and DOES look very good once put up. I wanted to post a photo, but evidently I cannot. My girlfried is VERY picky, and she likes it too.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Looks bad The description says nothing about the ridiculously ugly plastic wrapped track - it actually does not say the word plastic in the description at all. It was so bad that I almost closed the box up right after I opened it. I optimistically thought that maybe when it was up it wouldn't be as bad - it was!!

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Met my expectations I purchased this product with the knowledge I was not getting high end fixture. The connections are plastic and will break if you try to force them. The fixture does what I need it to do and I am very happy with the product. When laying out the ceiling mounts keep in mind the attachable space on the track is about 3" short of 12ft. So if you are trying to hit the rafters or joists, the track will be short of a 12' layout. On one end I came in 3 1/2" and used a self drilling drywall anchor.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great system This is a great system, and its flexibility allowed us to get light to every area of the kitchen. I totally disagree with the reviewer who complained about the plastic. Once up, you can't tell it's not metal, and the plastic makes it more flexible and washable. We love the sleek design, and it's worked perfectly for over a year now.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Nice Track Good value for the money. Have been using for 2 weeks, no complains at all ! Wish they could sell it as a bundle including the heads. I had to buy heads seperately online as B&M Home Depot do not sell heads which fits this knid of track.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Looks Great I got three of these to put in my kitchen and family room and am very pleased with how it looks. Two of the tracks have the flex track head with the chiseled glass shade and the third has pendant lights. The pendant lights use the flex track pendant adapter. The end result matches the steampunk vibe I am going for.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Fast, easy install; great flexibility; perfect for an installation of 18 handmade jellyfish lights Our goal was to replace a row of ugly 23-year-old track spotlights with a dozen or two handmade jellyfish lights, mostly consisting of gussied-up Japanese rice paper lanterns. Our sloped 13-foot ceiling made the job more daunting. Internet searches for affordable systems were discouraging until I mentioned that the jellyfish theme really needed a curvy sinuous track to look good and Bingo! Hampton Bay at Home Depot had just such a track, affordably priced, flexible enough to install in graceful curves on a sloped ceiling, and accommodating enough to handle well over a dozen lighted jellies using very low wattage CFs or LEDs. We bought two tracks and over 20 connectors. It took more time to erect the scaffolding than it did to install the 24 feet of track. Because we could move the connectors back and forth until they looked just right—they can be clamped on any part of the track—we had total flexibility with the design of the installation. It's not finished yet. When we saw how easy it was to add more lights (up to the recommended maximum 1500 watts), I got busy making more and more jellies. Here's a photo of about half of the lights, only a few in their final positions. Our goal now is to hang the remaining lights in such a way as to cover up the track when viewed from below, and then to install a little fan to set the whole thing in motion.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Love the look I have been looking for an adjustable flex track for a while but couldn't find anything even close to this price range. I am so happy for my purchase. I gave only three stars on installation because it requires two people for installing it right. The track itself is larger and heavier that you may think.
