I am considering the LED version of this fixture. How many light heads can function on it?

Asked by: Redo
Be aware that at 2400 watts you are most likely overtaxing your wiring and circuit breaker. Since 10 10 watt LEDs calcs to 100 watts you are not likely to get enough LEDs on this system to be near that problem. Mixing LEDs and Halogens will most likely confuse all but the best dimmer switches and cause some flickering. Just don't do it.

What light heads fit this flex track?

Apparently there are two sizes of Hampton Bay flex tracks, "fat" and "skinny". This is a "fat" track. The Hampton Bay light heads I bought to go with this, internet no. 203905355, white flex track lighting head with frosted glass shade, do not fit this track and were made for the "skinny" track. The question is: What track heads can I use that will fit this "fat" track. There is no way to tell from pictures or descriptions in this web site. Is the fat track or the skinny track the current one, or is Hampton Bay still producing 2 sizes? If I can't get light heads for this "fat" track, then can I get a 12 ft. starter kit with the "skinny" track?

TGaw's answer is helpful ONLY if you want a white light head, but not helpful for bronze.

What light heads are available with this 12' bronze track?

Asked by: dabe
Do a search for flex track heads. The flex track heads that have a model number starting with EC will work. The rest will not.

Customer Reviews

120-Volt Antique Bronze Standard Flex Track Starter Kit is rated 4.1 out of 5 by 80.
Rated 3 out of 5 by from No matching accessories... I bought the flex track in store along with the pendants. I had to order the connectors on line as the store does not stock them. When they arrived, they did not fit the only flex track the store sold so I returned the item and ordered a flex track online. When it arrived, it was a different design and did fit the connectors. In reading the reviews, I saw where one man had to enlarge the holes to fit the track he had. It is very confusing as there is no mention of the different track designs and no way to find out until the two are put together. It took far more time as I had to return the original and wait for the other to arrive. I finally installed it and it works fine. The store does not stock pendants that would connect to the track. I had to buy the pendant, shade and bulb separately, measure and cut the wires, attach and install the glass shade and bulb. More expense and not too easy.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good concept with some flaws These tracks are generally well designed EXCEPT that when you start to bend them, the 2 wires retreat away from the ends, and if you're trying to connect two tracks, the connector doesn't touch either of the wires. To fix the problem, you have to grab each wire with needle nosed pliers and slowly pull them back toward the end, then quickly attach the connector before they try to retreat again. As you might imagine, this approach is not optimal when you're standing on a ladder trying to attach the second track to the first one that's already been put in place. Otherwise, we like the way the project turned out.

It is grey colored and slightly plastic looking as a wavy line draws attention to the fixture. However, we have it in the kitchen and it has a practical fun vibe to it. Especially for the price. One section took about 3 hours. There was a snag trying to use the connector for this kit to add on another 12 ft as it didn't connect. Part 2 happened the following day with some frustrating trial and error. Both ends of the track needed to be cut back about 2 inches each side to get all pieces of internal track wire to touch. Also, a week after install, one of the light fixtures for this kit suddenly stopped working all together, though the remaining track line is still fine.

It was easy to shape the track the way I was wanting to use it. It took less than 2 hours to install the track and place the lights where I wanted them. It did take two people to get the track attached to the ceiling. One could hold the track while the other put up the anchors. I used a dimmer and purchased LED bulbs to use rather than the halogen bulbs. It's functioning as I hoped it would.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Sturdy and attractive The flexible track was much sturdier than I expected, which is a good thing if you are going to hang lights off of it. The only thing I would change if it were up to me would be the clamping method. It isn't as much fun as I thought it would be holding the clamps and track in place with two hands while trying to screw the cap onto the clamp with your third hand. The hot lead strips are well protected with a neutral strip that is very easy to hit when hanging lamps from the track. It takes a little care to get the hot contacts onto the energized strip, but it does a pretty good job of keeping me from being energized, so I buy in. The pendant adapters that go along with this require a little disassembly to get the wires into the terminals, but once that's done, it's pretty easy to move the pendant to where you want it on the track. For the price, I think the system works pretty well as is attractive.

In a perfect example of "You get what you pay for." this product is worth every penny. First, the track never releases its memory of being looped into the box as it will never lay flat/track straight (It comes packed in a 24" coil. I took it out of the box, and laid heavy boxes over the entire length of the track, flat on the ground, for a week, and the track rebounded to a circle immediately). Second, the plastic housings for the track are weak. I say this as after only being installed, with very little tension on any given housing, the threaded portion which holds the clamp together broke which caused the entire track to fall. Third, and the reason why in number two the entire track came out of the clamps, is because there is no dedicated end to the track to hold it in place, there are only push on end caps, which pop off and allow the track to slide through the clamps when one clamp breaks. Terrible product.

Do NOT be fooled into thinking, as I was, that this product is as described. It is NOT brushed steel ... it is a gray rubber hose with wiring/track inside. This isn't just misleading, it is deceptive and frankly false advertising. I am surprised more people haven't complained! I was stunned. How is it they can get away with using this description when it is NOTHING like it??? I honestly thought the gray rubberized outer "shell" was some kind of protective packaging to be removed before installation. I went back to the item online and realized they don't allow you to zoom in close enough to really see it is not brushed steel but gray tubing. Looks more like something one would put inside of a wall, not hang from the ceiling. It has been returned. We had already purchased the pendants and spots so I ordered the white version - at least it doesn't pretend to be something its not. Hoping it simply blends into with the ceiling - and doesn't look like a gray hose hanging from it. Shame on Home Depot .
