I am considering the LED version of this fixture. How many light heads can function on it?

Asked by: Redo
Be aware that at 2400 watts you are most likely overtaxing your wiring and circuit breaker. Since 10 10 watt LEDs calcs to 100 watts you are not likely to get enough LEDs on this system to be near that problem. Mixing LEDs and Halogens will most likely confuse all but the best dimmer switches and cause some flickering. Just don't do it.

What light heads fit this flex track?

Apparently there are two sizes of Hampton Bay flex tracks, "fat" and "skinny". This is a "fat" track. The Hampton Bay light heads I bought to go with this, internet no. 203905355, white flex track lighting head with frosted glass shade, do not fit this track and were made for the "skinny" track. The question is: What track heads can I use that will fit this "fat" track. There is no way to tell from pictures or descriptions in this web site. Is the fat track or the skinny track the current one, or is Hampton Bay still producing 2 sizes? If I can't get light heads for this "fat" track, then can I get a 12 ft. starter kit with the "skinny" track?

TGaw's answer is helpful ONLY if you want a white light head, but not helpful for bronze.

What light heads are available with this 12' bronze track?

Asked by: dabe
Do a search for flex track heads. The flex track heads that have a model number starting with EC will work. The rest will not.

This track is a different thickness/width than the 10ft track, which is impossible to tell from the website. The description for this 12ft track even says 'lights sold separately- search "Hampton Bay flex track head", but none of the heads listed under that title fit this track.

I'm still going to give this four stars as it does have some issues but in the end installation turned out nicely. We still have some spotlights to arrive but it's installed enough that I'm OK reviewing it. As noted, the majority of the pieces are plastic rather than metal and in looking at them up close the difference is noticeable but when we installed these pendant lights into a 10' ceiling in our home bar the fixture looks very nice. The installation of the track is very straightforward although there are a couple of fundamental errors in the instructions (at least on the sheet that we had) that caused some issues. One very important thing to do in advance is to plan where your lights are going to drop especially if you're using pendant lights. The lights we used (EC410ABZ4) weigh almost 3 lbs. each and *will* pull the track down if a stanchion is not mounted within a few inches of where the light will attach. The first flaw in the instructions says to place the stanchions a *minimum* of 20" apart. No, that's more like a *maximum* of 20" apart. As you can see even from the last stanchion on the right to the power supply, the track is drooping. The gap is 23". The other flaw in the instructions was in the mounting of the stanchions. The kit comes with (curiously) both the standard hollow wall anchors that take a wood screw and expand as well as the toggle bolt anchor. For me, when hanging something from the ceiling the toggle is the only anchor to use. The instructions indicate that you should drill a 5/16" hole to insert the anchor. The issue is that the toggle itself is slightly more than 1/2". I'm guessing either there was an editing disconnect or that translation software was used and mis-translated this. Actually I think the latter is likely in both cases. All in all the finished product looks very nice for stage 1. We will be expanding the track to cover the entire bar. Interestingly enough homedepot.com sells the stanchions individually but not the track separately so we are likely looking at buying two more starter kits and throwing away the 120V adapter to finish our tun. An interesting idea. Why not sell the track separately? The stanchions are sold separately.

Evidently there are 2 different Flex track "starter Kits" and take different lights. All the lights (I tried 7 different ones) were labeled for "starter kits" but did not fit. Took it back and purchased one that contained lights. A huge waste of time for me and Home Depot (having to ship...returns, opened boxes, etc.) Please look into this Home Depot.

"Starter Kit" infers that the track can be added on to, they even sell Connectors, however it is impossible to get support stems. I even contacted Hampton Bay and they informed me it was impossible to get stems. I need them because if you add any weight (a light) to the track it flexes too much and pulls the track down from the ceiling.

Unfortunately, I am still awaiting the connector so I can add a track to the intial track. I am extremely disappointed that the connector is not readily available and I have been waiting for a week now for an email that it is available for purchase.

As long as you know from the very beginning where exactly (!) you want to put the lights onto the track everything is more or less ok. However, you should know that the track is made from dark gray plastic, and when you scratch it (i. e. by putting a light onto it) it is inevitable that you leave visible marks on the track that can never again be removed (see picture). You also should know that the "brushed steel finish" track is much darker than you probably expect. I bought this track to replace a broken 15 year old "brushed steel finish" low-voltage track from Ikea. The Ikea track was so light (and therefore elegant) that you hardly noticed it. The Home Depot track is so dark (and therefore clunky) that I will probably need quite some time until I don't find it ugly anymore whenever I come into my kitchen. Besides that it is quite easy to install and works as it should. It is a good idea to have somebody to help (to hold the track) when you install it, though.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Weak point is cheap plastic The part that connects the electricity to the track breaks too easily. It is thin plastic and breaks at the hinge. It seems the spring tension on the track probes is too great. I have had 2 crack on me now, they last about 3 months. Back to the store again for a replacement.
