Customer Questions & Answers

Can this be attached to our existing 3" duct work?

The fan has a 6" exit duct but our old house has 3" duct work going from our old bathroom fan to the attic. Can this fan be installed properly by connecting the 6" duct to the 3" duct?
Asked by: Confused
Physically, yes it can be attached to a 3" duct, but that's a bad idea. This fan is rated to push 140 CFM through a 6" port, which is ~28 square inches in cross-sectional area. A 3" duct is about 7 square inches. So the fan will be trying to push air through a pipe that's one-fourth the size of of the 6" duct for which it's designed. This will do two things: 1) airflow (CFM) will be reduced (imagine yourself trying to blow air through a drinking straw vs. blowing air through a bigger pipe), and 2) the motor will be working harder than it should, which will ultimately shorten the life of the motor. Install 6" ductwork, or buy a smaller fan designed for 3" or 4" ductwork.

Why does condensation collect and then dip from the fan

After someone takes a shower, there's condensation which collects on the plastic grids and then the water begins to drip. Doesn't seem right to have water collection around an electric item - is there a setting that needs to be adjusted?
Asked by: Chris
Condensation will occur if the warm moist air comes into contact with cold air. Dripping will occur if you do not get enough insulation on top of your fan when you install it.
